I might just cry. I picture it in my head. And Chat would get all flustered and stuff because he can dish out the flirts but the real feelings leave him giddy and shy.

Because he can’t believe he feels so strongly for this beautiful amazing girl who feels so strongly about him.

And ugh! Just let me drown in my LadyNoir feels.

while I enjoy everyone’s thoughts for a lark, it seems to me that they’re treating Marinette as a stand in for the reader, and their Marinette acts as though she understands Adrien’s suffering, but that is so SO out of character and frankly it’s a crime to erase Marinette’s character like that, so buckle up, friends. play time is over. here’s the deal:

Marinette is nice because she cares, but she doesn’t understand. Marinette strikes me as a very sympathetic person, but not a particularly empathetic one, which is a fine line to walk. she’s bold and straightforward and very confrontational: once she’s had enough, she’s had enough. Empathetic Adrien expresses discomfort around Chloé, but he never shuts her down in quite the same way Marinette and Ladybug do. As caring as she is, Marinette is not looking past EITHER of Adrien’s masks.

so let’s do this a different way.

Ladybug doesn’t need to understand exactly what makes Chat Noir tick to laugh and smile and respond to him, to humor his bursts of energy after simpler battles. Chat Noir bribes her with cookies to stay with her after akuma battles and race with him, and when Marinette has time Ladybug plays with her cat.

Ladybug fights with Chat Noir over his endless sacrifices. Chat Noir throws his arms around his Lady when she throws herself needlessly into the jaws of an akuma, but Ladybug suffers every time he takes a blow, with every distraction that reduces Chat Noir’s time to five minutes, with every arrow that pierces Chat Noir’s skin, with every touch that rips Chat Noir from Ladybug’s side.

Ladybug can fight alone, but she doesn’t want to, and when she figures that out (when she loses Chat Noir one too many times), she thanks her partner for being her partner, showers him in praise and affection and insistent reminders that she needs him, so please please stay beside her.

Marinette gets Chloé off Adrien’s back, not because she realizes exactly how uncomfortable Adrien gets, but because she is jealous. Adrien mistakes Marinette’s jealousy for kindness, and so he thanks her. Marinette is used to people around Chloé bowing and scraping— isn’t that who Sabrina is? if Adrien disliked Chloé, wouldn’t he simply push her away?— but the moment Adrien thanks her, she catches a glimpse of Adrien’s kindness, Adrien’s empathy, and she doesn’t understand it. Marinette, who lives so fiercely by the rule to “do no harm but take no shit,” does not understand why Adrien takes so much shit. It’s by Marinette’s example also that Adrien begins to stand up to Chloé, begins to allow hints of Chat’s impatience through when dealing with the girl he grew up with.

Marinette validates Adrien with her smiles and her laughter and how responsive she grows to him, how she dotes on him because she loves him, how tenderly she tugs at the scarf she his father gave him in the mornings by their lockers, how she will fume and rage on his behalf when he cracks and confides in her, how she will ask if he needs a hug and fold her arms under his and hook her chin over his shoulder and let him hide his face in her shoulder.

Marinette doesn’t need to consciously realize how lonely Adrien is to want to shower him with gifts. As they grow closer, as Adrien compliments Marinette more and more (and he already compliments her so much), as he naturally starts to spend more time in the Dupain-Cheng household, first with the rest of their classmates, then with Alya and Nino, until he’s had just enough conversations in Mandarin with Sabine, until he’s arranged another tournament with Tom, until it’s just him being plied with baked goods and smothered in hugs, until he looks at the picture on the shelf and blushes and smiles because he’s there, too.

I can’t help but think about Adrien and Marinette, after they revealed their identities, after they were able to fight a really evil Akuma, after they come home exhausted and fall asleep, keeping warm to each other, and love.

Also SNOWBALL FIGHTS TO THE DEATH.

But like:

Nobody’s surprised in the wintertime if there’s a pair of snow angels on the roof, or ones that appear the parks overnight, one with a set of ears and one with two sets of wings like a ladybug’s.  Or if they wake up to find elaborate snow battles taking place in public parks by a dozen staged snowmen.  Old foes and new, sometimes armies of akuma and sometimes their henchmen, with two snowmen standing in the center of it all, one with cat ears and one with pigtails.  Alya’s always excited to get pictures up on the Ladyblog, and no one will dare touch them during the day, preferring to let the snow sculptures stand until the sun melts them away.

But sometimes a park will be completely trampled in the morning by two pairs of footprints, one slim and narrow, the other boots that leave paw prints behind.  The snow is kicked up and scraped together in haphazard fortresses, and more often than not kids will flock to these scenes of battle and pick up the game, using the abandoned walls and wind breaks for their own fights to the death.  Sometimes if they’re lucky, two figures in black and red will join the fight, taking the lead of opposing teams and leading their troops with enthusiasm and ruthlessness.  No one is safe when Ladybug and Chat Noir are pitted against each other, but the only danger is of cold fingers and toes, and smiling so hard that cheeks go sore.

Winter in Paris used to be so dreary and dismal, but now it’s filled with laughter and light even when the sun has long been trapped behind the clouds, and it’s all thanks to two young heroes who refuse to let the weather get the best of them.
