30 Day Challenge: Chris Evans
Day 7: Favorite Chris Evans’ quote (non-movie)
“If something is your passion, listen to your heart. If it’s what you love more than anything else, don’t stop doing it for anybody.” - Chris Evans
@starspangledsprocket - I thought you might appreciate the encouragement. ;-)
Excellent
here’s a dumb sappy undertale-related story for you:
im having kind of a rough day, I woke up at 2pm and felt like a gross sad sloth. major depression, as usual, is always trying to drown me in an apathetic fog.
but recently when I have a day where I feel like im about to fall off the wagon and quit trying, I put my “Determination” on (actually just a cheap little plastic pixel heart necklace) and tell myself that so long as I have it on, it’s not possible for me to make bad choices or give up. and I don’t.
i save it only for my worst days, and when I wear that heart I think very hard about all the things i care about and all the stuff im fighting for. i try very hard to remember how far i’ve come, how hard i’ve worked and just how many times i’ve gotten back up again in order to survive all the way to 26.
when I put my Determination on, it’s a visual reminder that I’m so much stronger than the world that has tried so very hard to wipe me out. It’s a visual reminder that my body and spirit can be beaten down, but my hopes and dreams can never be broken. Not so long as I keep them safe and protected within one little symbol… an ordinary, common little symbol that’s come to mean so much to me.
it’s no secret that I’ve always been a cheesy bastard, but it’s about more than my attachment to Undertale–visual reminders can really be a powerful tool, and I urge anybody reading this to try it if they’re struggling. find something to wear or put on that is your power, your “Determination,” something that can temporarily make you a superhero while you have it on. pick out a symbol or something that has deep personal meaning to you and make it your power, focus your very essence into it, and kick ass when you don that thing. you’ll start to associate being at your best with that item, and when used correctly, putting it on can become like flipping a switch.
now get out there and become your own superhero!! i’m going to try hard too.
rickman was someone I often thought of when I felt like I was getting nowhere with my life because I remembered he didn’t get his acting break until he was 41 and it made me think it’s ok if you not successful from the age of 18 you can take your time
I’ve just been reading about Alan Rickman’s life, and – wow – it was even more extraordinary.
He first went to art school, and was a successful graphic designer before his passion for theatre won out. He was awarded a scholarship to train at RADA at the late age of 26 – really unusual. As @nondeducible says, he got his Hollywood break at 41 – but as today’s Guardian says, ‘his sensational breakthrough came in 1986’ – on stage – ‘as [the original] Valmont, the mordant seducer in Christopher Hampton’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses’. [x] That production was a huge sensation at the time. It went on to be filmed – but, sadly, with John Malkovich, not Alan, as Valmont.
The other aspect of Alan Rickman’s life I hope young people will take inspiration from is that he achieved all this from a very ordinary, and not easy, background.
He grew up on a council estate in West London and his Dad died before he was 10. He was a scholarship boy at a selective independent school (he was there because he was smart; other kids’ families would have been richer) – a stark contrast with most of today’s best-loved young British actors, who (with a few exceptions, e.g. Ben Whishaw) are almost all from wealthy backgrounds and public-school educated. After RADA, he even supported himself financially by working as a theatre dresser for bigger names (Sir Ralph Richardson, Nigel Hawthorne).
With the loss of Alan Rickman, we have lost one of a dying generation of British actors who achieved their success from ordinary beginnings, entirely through their own hard work, talent and persistence.
*has to do figure drawings but has no motivation*
*thinks* papyrus would want me to get into art school
#hamiltunes posters!
as someone who suffers from depression and ptsd, the Hamilton cast album has helped me push myself to keep going in the last two weeks. I made these posters using some of the most motivating quotes from these shows so that in my darker moments I can be reminded that I still have so much more in me. that even though it sucks to be alive sometimes, each day counts as a victory.
each image is the standard 8.5 x 11 inch printing size & I put them all in a downloadable zip folder here.
look at where we are. look at where we started…

my sister is becoming a child psychologist and she asked one of her clients, a 10 year old girl, to draw how she felt before they started therapy on the inside of a bowl, and how she felt now on the outside of the bowl. On the inside of the bowl she drew a plain tree stump, but on the outside she drew a full tree with flowers blooming through it and a beautiful garden all the way around the bowl and that just makes me so happy
Look at this sunny, happy nerd.
