have we made official plans for this friday guys
as a fashion student, one of the things i love most about the series is the CLOTHES. i love how they're described in detail (thank you scar) and how the outfits add to each scene. in the beginning it mentions syldrathi wearing long robes, which one can assume are traditional clothing. i did a sketch of the robes a few months ago:
these are formal robes made of a stiffer wool-like fabric that come in any color. they're emblazoned with the wearer's cabal which is usually hand-beaded onto the robes :)
so to add to this "how did syldra die?" discourse, i would like to add my theory that it all blew up instantaneously. if the star was blown up, chances are that disturbing the homeostasis of something so volatile would cause a colossal explosion. we read in the books that not only did the explosion of syldra's sun eliminate the planet, but all of the other planets in the system. my theory is it was a nagasaki/hiroshima (not to make light of those horrific circumstances) where it was a massive-scale nuclear explosion caused by the disruption of an already borderline unstable celestial body like a star.
Finian and Scarlett headcanons?? My underrated otp 🥺
i love them too!!!! the girls who get it get it, and the girls who don't don't
- she hardly ever leaves the house without a good outfit, he dresses like he's homeless.
- one of their favorite things to do together is watch trash reality tv.
- they always eat down with their halloween costumes! a few honorable mentions being kermit and miss piggy, the grinch and martha may whovier, and roger and jessica rabbit
- they are the epitome of the "dinner, tomorrow, me." "YAYYYYYY" audio.
- in their first house, fin built her a HUGE closet so she can buy all the clothes she wants
- he's really good at calling her out when she takes on too many responsibilities
- fin makes that MONEY and eventually starts his own business creating exosuits for those who were affected by the lysergia plague like him, and scar becomes a pr specialist for a fashion magazine.
- this, of course, makes them the cool, rich, DINK aunt and uncle who are able to take their niece and nephew whenever their parents can't put up anymore (kal and auri's son is a handful).
- scar actually can cook and she's pretty good at it since she's been pretty much fending for herself and tyler her whole life. fin, however, cannot be allowed within the threshold of a kitchen because something will catch on fire or he will cut himself.
those are my thoughts! hope you enjoyyyyyy <3
i want to to post more ideas ask me questions
you guys need to touch some grass bc what sort of unholy discourse is going down rn
do you guys think kal is autistic
syldrathi winter holiday: ido'nai
Ido’nai: a celebration of the beginning of Syldrathi culture, and the main Syldrathi winter holiday. The story goes that millenia ago, when the Syldrathi were the only species in the galaxy, there were no cabals, no order, and instead, there was warfare and disagreement at all times. Until one fatal winter, when the chaos took the lives of many people. One Syldrathi observed the chaos, and decided she needed to put it to a stop. She was the head of a very notable tribe, and gathered all the people of the world to her village to tell them her plan. She started by dividing the people by their strengths and assigning them roles. Those skilled in reasoning and leadership would become the Watchers. Those skilled in agriculture and laborious tasks would become the Workers. Scholars and empaths would become Waywalkers. Creatives would become the Weavers, and fighters would become Warbreed. She then urged them to never forget those roles, took a stick from the fire, and etched a circle inside of a circle on her forehead, creating the first glyf. Soon, the other cabals would create their own glyfs, and the unity created by one Watcher propelled the people of Syldra to become the most advanced in the galaxy.
Ido’nai is a word that means “unity”, and the holiday is typically celebrated over the course of five days, one day for each cabal, and one for each interpersonal and intrapersonal relationship that makes up a society. The first day is Watcher’s day, and it celebrates community. Concerts held by musicians singing traditional songs, plays reenacting the events of the first Ido’nai, markets, and other communal events take place on Watcher’s day. The Inner Council will also address the Syldrathi people on this day, as they are Watchers. The next day is Worker’s day, and it celebrates the relationship between friends. Several gatherings between friends will take place during this day, usually to share a meal and spend time with one another. The next day is Weaver’s day, which is the day of familial relationships. Extended family will gather on this day and spend time with one another. The day of Weavers is the day of family because of the ties that weave families together. The next day belongs to the Warbreed, and celebrates the relationship between lovers. The last and final day of Ido’nai is the day of Waywalkers, and celebrates the relationship with yourself.
with christmas coming up, would you guys like to see the syldrathi winter holiday i created? i made a backstory and traditions for it and everything? if not that's okay that's totally fine
notes from a violinist on the siif
hey everybody i've played violin for 10 years, so naturally you can assume i was excited when the siif was described as being similar to a violin. but then, it was described as a plucked instrument where chords are more commonly played instead of notes, which caused me to Wonder...
here is what i think we can assume about the instrument, for all you fanfic writers out there:
- violinists do pluck sometimes (pizzicato), but we still hold it on the shoulder when we do that. i'm assuming that the siif is something you hold at your chest/in your lap like a guitar, because it's hard to sing and play chords with something on your shoulder. I argue that the siif is actually more similar to a mandolin than a violin. why? you might ask, well a mandolin is roughly the same size, and is tuned the same as a violin, but is more commonly a chord instrument.
- you might also ask what it looks like. i'm no expert, but i think we can assume that like the mandolin, it's teardrop shaped. the teardrop shape seems to be a common element in syldrathi culture so i don't think that's too big of a stretch. i think it is also dark in color, as it's probably made from lias wood
a picture from the internet of what i think it looks like
some thoughts about laeleth (kal and saedii's mother)
in my mind, she's kind of a hippie, or at least the syldrathi version of a hippie. she's anti war, she wears crystal necklaces, flowy clothes. so basically i envision her as syldrathi stevie nicks
hot take
maybe auri losing her powers was actually for the best. like don't get me wrong, i see the flawed logic in taking away a character's power after it has benefitted them so much, but was auri's power actually beneficial? it made her brain bleed, and there are implications in aurora's end that the power is addictive. if they didn't cause those side effects, i would be all for it, but brain bleeds and addiction aren't good. that's just my apprehension i guess
those of you who voted that auri's eye stayed white, tell me your explanation for this. i'm very curious
alright everyone time for an important question
my dad being obsessed with star trek in the 90s🤝me loving the aurora cycle now
does anyone remember that post where someone said that the squad should be introduced while sympathy for the devil was playing in the background? well, i propose an entirely classic rock/70s soundtrack for the aurora cycle tv show. here are some of my ideas:
back in black by acdc: saedii being introduced
seven seas of rhye by queen: when auri and the starslayer are fighting the rahaam ships (or whenever auri does something with her powers)
there are many songs that could work for the bar brawl, but i personally like mississippi queen by mountain
comfortably numb by pink floyd playing during that one chapter where it's just fin being silly by himself
the great gig in the sky by pink floyd playing when tyler dies in the alternate future and kal is confronting his father for his actions
i think for the echo scenes there should be some of the psychedelic beatles songs, like strawberry fields forever or lucy in the sky with diamonds
let me know if you have any other ideas i would love to hear them
Coinkydink you should make this post about 70s music and Aurora Cycle cause the other day I was listening to the B-52’s Rock Lobster and thinking it was the same kind of wild nonsense energy I associate with Fin.
Do I have solid enough ideas to coherently explain how all these would fit? No. Some are deadass just based on vibes. So make of them what you will.
@licentiouslegionnaire YOUR. MIND.
i love all these ideas. here are some scenes i would pair those songs with.
black dog - led zeppelin: i love led zeppelin, so, so much. i feel like this song could work really well with the bar brawl scene too (or really any scene where kal is taking out a room of people by himself).
hijinx - heart: i might love led zeppelin a lot, but i think i love heart more. i could see that working for perhaps the bank heist? it has that vibe.
moonage daydream - david bowie: i think this is very scar and fin in the elevator shaft and/or their first kiss. david bowie songs simply have to be featured in the aurora cycle tv show
carry on, wayward son - kansas: that one is actually on my auri playlist. it reminds me of her role as the trigger. maybe it plays during one of her visions in the beginning of the series.
i'm every woman - chaka khan: remember in aurora burning where right after they kick kal out scar is vibing to her music by herself? yeah, that's the song that needs to play.
some more thoughts i had as i wrote this post
when kal is playing his siif in the echo, it's actually just him playing over the hills and far away by led zeppelin
starman by david bowie should play as the squad is playing frennet
a song off of rumours by fleetwood mac playing while kal is talking about his childhood. silver springs perhaps? dreams?
any black sabbath song would work for the scenes with the starslayer
thank you for making those recommendations. that was great fun for me
