Shance in DotU
‘Kay, so, I’ve been watching 80′s Voltron and like? Has no one brought up the fact that Sven (AKA Shiro) basically dies for Lance in 80′s Voltron? Not even shitting you. (Yeah yeah the English dub claims he was “badly wounded” and out of commission and cut out his entire funeral scene, but hah no, he’s killed in this scene.)
Haggar, deciding she has to take out only one of the paladins to destroy Voltron, manages to lure away Lance. It was going to be Lance who was killed.
Until Sven (AKA Shiro!) shows up to save him. And takes his place in Haggar’s trap.
Also, let’s not forget Lance and Keith BOTH holding Sven (AKA Shiro), crying together as he lies dying.
…so anyway, my point is it’s not like VLD writers have to grasp that hard for shance moments or anything. It’s all here in the original!
…and yes, I know 80′s Voltron has zero bearing on anything that comes to pass in VLD, but I’m just saying.

Hey everyone, spot my favorite character IT’S THIS TWERP RIGHT HERE. Ahhh, man, I’m laffin’. ´ ∀ ｀
A few days ago I was thinking about other old anime I haven't watched yet, like Space Adventure Cobra, red-jacket Lupin III......and Cyborg 009. I had tried the Cyborg 009 manga years ago and kind of fell out of it early on, but I do have some vague recollection. And I thought, "Hey. Doesn't that series have a character who's at least a little bit like Kurogane/Lance?"
So I put Jet Link into the Google and YouTube searches.
And now I AM SUFFERING because I still haven't actually finished Golion yet, but I NEED THIS BIRDMAN?? And I NEED A CROSSOVER

Why Shiro Is Lance's Hero
I'm sure most Voltron fans know by now that in the original Voltron in the 80's, Shiro died. But do you remember the circumstances in which he lost his life?
Lance was targeted by Haggar the witch, who was trying to capture him in a magic net. (If she wanted him dead, then why didn't she just...zap him? Eh, plot.)
So Shiro frees Lance, who runs off to fetch Keith. In the meantime, Shiro fights against Haggar, but then gets bludgeoned on the back of the head by a Beastman that had tagged along. Lance and Keith return to find a bloody Shiro on the ground, and he dies in their arms.
In summary, Shiro died right after saving Lance's life. Now let's fast-forward to the modern era.
But it doesn't end here. Take a look at the scene where Lance and Shiro are formally introduced to each other.
Shiro says he's going to thank all of them for saving him, but then specifically targets Lance. LOOK AT LANCE'S FACE. It's like he's payed back the favor from another life, but this time no one had to die.
