Read this before submitting asks!

Hello hello, I’m glitch, a writer and artist, and this is the blog where I share my work!

Q. What is lfls?

lfls is short for Like Father Like Son. It’s a Rise of the TMNT fanfic I am currently working on. Most of what I talk about tends to be about this piece of work, so it’ll come up a lot. Warning for darker themes!

Q. Where can I read lfls?

Right here~
I also post links to new chapters as I update. Do note it is required you are logged into an ao3 account to view this story due to recent AI scraping of the archive.

Q. When do you update / what is your update schedule?

Don’t ask me when the next update is, it will happen unless I announce otherwise but right now I am very determined to finish this. I work 40 hours a week and have class after that, plus I recently had some throat surgery that made me want some space from some of the content in lfls.

Q. lfls has a music playlist? Where is it / do you take song recs?

I have a spotify playlist for lfls here and although song recs are fine, please don’t send me too many! I have a very specific taste for writing music and don’t have the energy for 5 recs a day or something ^^;

Q. How will a character react in the healing part of lfls / behave later in the story / etc.?

Please be patient, this is part of the story and I don’t want to spoil it! Because of that, I won’t be answering questions about that anymore.

Q. Can I write fanfic for lfls?

If it’s from a completed arc, aka not speculation on future events of the story, I’m okay with it. Please credit me, and I also prefer zero shipping content because of personal reasons.

Q. How will the events of lfls change canon episodes and events later on in Rise of the TMNT?

lfls changes enough things that the later plot of Rise wouldn’t happen the same way at all, so I don’t have answers to specific questions of that nature. I also don’t want to give away plot, so I’m going to also avoid answering these types of questions. Feel free to check back after the end of lfls!

Q. Have any tips for writing?

Yeah! I have a tag for talking about that, and am happy to talk about my writing techniques and offer advice.

Also a quick note, please keep in mind that I don’t want to interact with anyone that creates/engages in tc*st. Only sibling/familial love between the turtles to be found here^^

And if you want to write anything based on my work or translate my work, etc. please ask first!

One of the most important lessons I ever learned about art was when I became a late addition to the editorial board for the literature part of my high school's lit/art magazine, which nobody ever read.

Because I realized after a couple of meetings that my moments of baffled distress during them were centering around a pattern of our votes electing by majority to reject most of the good, interesting stuff and agree to publish the very bland.

So I was looking around this room of people I mostly liked or respected if not both, trying to figure out what the fuck when there was no reasonable way of asking, until the day we by majority vote sent definitely the best thing submitted all year back pending 'revisions' which of course would not be made, because the poet would definitely either become demoralized or know for damn sure she was too good for our stupid journal. I have no idea which it was; it's a question of mindset, and the submissions were anonymous.

This good poem was rejected for two reasons, both of which were actually manifestations of it being good. One was that it had made a couple of the board uncomfortable--not by having any shocking subject material, mind, just by provoking emotions with unusual descriptive language and indirectness--and they'd transmitted that uneasiness throughout the group during discussion.

And the other, seized upon as an excuse in light of the first, was that by being complex in terms of both structure and notion it had drawn several of us in, interested enough to engage critically and respond in depth, and so we'd marked it up with lots of places we thought a word choice could have been a little stronger, a line break had been a little odd; ways we thought it could have been a more excellent version of the poem we perceived in it. None of them ways it was actually bad. Just places we felt it could have been better.

At the same meeting, we voted to accept a poem that was an utterly tepid rectangle of predictable nothing-in-particular, because no one could find anything in it to object to.

It wasn't good. It wasn't noticeably bad, either, though; it was one consistent level of mediocrity clear through, and thus no part of it stood out as a weakness, and therefore the committee found it more acceptable than the poem that was superior in every way, but which by being daring and interesting had left itself covered in vulnerable places.

The understanding I reached as a result of this experience was multi-layered and difficult to articulate, but the most important part, I think, to share is that the value and quality of a work are not, in fact, very well measured by how many negative things you can find to say about it.

hey you. indie creator. get rid of the corporate execs and the imaginary writers room in your brain. the cynical youtube reviewers and disney fans who want sanitized uwu gays probably are never even gonna be even slightly aware of your existence. write those unrelatable blorbos and those messy themes and that weirdly sexy violence. you have no one to answer to but yourself. give yourself what you want and maybe some day, some 3 random lesbians from the internet whose interests you have somehow exactly hit will look at your thing and think its pretty cool, and in the end thats all you ever needed

I NEVER NOTICED THIS POST TOOK OFF everyone who said they rly needed to hear this, we r in this together babe we will get it, eye of the tiger lets go

"if we get another (this weeks problematic media) because of this fucking post im gonna kill you" you saw a post like this thats meant to encourage people to work on their art and that was your first thought? sounds like someone hasnt killed the cynical youtube critic in their brain <3 also im blocking you

I always get really bemused by people tagging something with a tag I almost certainly follow and then having these tags as well.

Yes, I see it. I always see it. There's been like five of these.

Also what fandom did lfls influences get carried to? Hilarious. Go forth and have fun creating, I suppose!

I forgot that writing is very fun and that you're playing pretend. like all this shit and pressure about craftsmanship and art! NO!!!! you are a grown up playing with dolls! it is silly and you should have sooooo much fun pushing their heads together to make them smooch!!! or torturing them, which is what I did to my toys as a child, to the point where my mom thought I was going to grow up evil

Hey glitch! Big fan of your story LFLS! I’m just wondering if you knew about the potential ao3 ban and what you’re gonna do with your story if that happens? (This is honestly devastating news to me being a writer myself-) will you continue it on a different platform? Or just not bother?

In a world of crazy politics, I'm going to only worry about it when it's more of an actual possible reality. No need to worry twice. This would be breaking freedom of speech without a lot of reason (like they have tried with TikTok being "Chinese spyware") so for now I'm not thinking too much about it. Plus, despite people immediately worrying about ao3, I think it would not be one of the first sites to come under fire for "porn" reasons.

ao3 has some good lawyers, so we'll just wait and see. I'll address it if I need to but for now it is what it is.

Not everyone will like your work, and that's ok.

When it comes to accepting critiques of your work, it’s important to realise that there’s a difference between “it’s bad,” and “it was not for me.”

Just because someone doesn’t like your work doesn’t make it bad. Not everyone has to like everything, and that’s ok. Your audience is out there.

i hate to ask this because im sure you get bombarded...but i recently read through LFLS again and it really takes me back, i love it so much. I hope you are doing well (best we can in these times anyway!) If there was any hint of continuing or cancelation, would you let us know?

Yeah, today sure was a day, huh! I'm doing generally well. My first adult job also ends this month after three years of working, but I'm excited for a change (and a break!) of some kind. I'm also getting more neck procedures in a few weeks because my neck scar is doing... you know. Bring out the lasers!

And I would let you all know if it was canceled! For continuation, you likely won't hear about it until the next chapter (or more) is ready to go. The reason for that is simple; if I'm just constantly going on about the story but have no results to share, I think it is just embarrassing image-wise. Do it or don't, there is no theoretical.

(Did you know talking about the concept of doing something makes you feel just as fulfilled as doing the work? This is the enemy of creatives.)

So not hearing anything from me about it isn't necessarily bad news.

ok, because i just saw a terrible take, i feel compelled to say that there is no "fic market" to "oversaturate" in fandom. good gravy.

i need everyone reading this post to remember that writing is not "content." writing is art. you don't look at a painting of an ocean and say "eh, it's overdone." you look at it and think its beautiful, because it is, and y'all better start treating writing the same fucking way before you lose your favorite authors for good.

Art is not something to be capitalized on. Stop treating it like it is.
