don’t text thinking about ricky matsui accidentally ending up with an infant due to safe haven laws

okay, so:

- save haven laws in nyc allow you to surrender an infant up to 30 days after birth to a responsible adult at a number of given locations, which usually includes fire houses. ricky’s on duty and gets a baby handed to him while one of the Johns goes off to start doing all the paperwork.

- okay ricky with a tiny baby girl is like, easy to visualize and is super cute because we’ve all been socialized to believe that it’s like CRAZY for dads to take an interest and be invested in their daughter’s lives and therefore dads who do care get an unfair amount of credit for just like. being a dad.   (don’t @ me). but ricky with a tiny baby boy?? raising that kid to be respectful of other people, saying a resounding fuck you to toxic masculinity and gender roles, going to his son’s t-ball games and always being there for him and showing him how to have emotions and handle them productively!!!!

- ricky and the baby latch onto each other immediately. the baby cries when anyone else tries to hold him and ricky’s like, very in people’s space when they do try and hold him because like are you supporting the head? you gotta support the head bro. so ~~waves hands ambiguously about irl regulations~~ he gets to take care of him.

- he sends the dream team a selfie of him shirtless holding the baby (because he read online that skin to skin contact is very important) and the response is wild. sofie sends back a selfie of her cleaning up the spontaneous nosebleed she got. kingston is very !! what the fuck why do you have a child YOU are a child but then ricky explains that this is (probably) only temporary until they find a placement for the baby to stay at. rowan is like meh about babies, but pete is really excited bc i hc that pete has a couple younger siblings who he misses a ton.

- sofie and dale never had kids but she’s got brothers and was always looking forward to being like, a cool aunt. she shows up to ricky’s apartment with a bunch of baby clothes and diapers and formula and some soft toys (STUFFED! RAT!!). she loves this boy. she tries super hard to get ricky to name him dale jr. but it doesn’t stick. sofie and emiko are in a serious competition over the baby’s favorite aunt, despite this being “temporary situation”.

- pete also shows up. pete is pretty good at getting the baby to laugh, but not good at getting the baby to sleep. he feels pete’s chaos energy and after pete comes by it takes forever for ricky to put him down for a nap. 

- esther cries. esther cries a lot about a lot of things because the curse is gone!! and she can do that now!! he’s just so little and ricky looks so cute when he’s holding him. she definitely gets frustrated, because babies are frustrating and noisy and weird, but she also knows that if something happened to this kid she would rip the city to the ground. 

- kingston and the baby are bros. i don’t know how else to explain this but sometimes an adult and a baby are bros and that’s just how it is. 

- it’s supposed to be temporary but ricky cries when he’s supposed to hand the boy over to the social services guy (along with the BAGS of baby supplies the dream team have given him) and the guy is like. yknow maybe you could foster him? and ricky’s just like yup yes please!! and he keeps him :))
