Sometimes I think that people fail to realize how smart Cyno is. I know it's because he's a straightforward person-- much more than characters like Kaeya and Alhaitham, and he doesn't come across as nearly as academic as Tighnari and Faruzan, but hear me out (CW discussion of racism and colourism.)

Cyno is from the desert, something that the Akademiya knows well. We see the racism he faces even if Cyno never brings it up himself (you can find it in bulletin boards (under the Matra heading) and his Vision Story), and that is when he already had a good reputation. Can you imagine how bad it would have been as a student? Setaria was only allowed to succeed because her academic ability dwarfed everybody else-- and that's likely after Cyno paved the way. (In the quest The Missing Village Keepers, Dehya says, "Geniuses like Setaria are one in a million. The other children never get a single chance to try and rewrite their fate... Even though the Akademiya knows very well that we're humans, just as they are.") If Setaria was on par with her peers, or even only a little bit better, the Akademiya never would have given her a shot. (In Educational Tracking systems, POC are more likely to be placed in lower streams than white kids all through their education, even if they belong in more challenging classes (source)(source). Racism often equates intelligence to skin colour (source)(source). Even if most people at the Akademiya wouldn't be white, that sort of prejudice would still apply to people from the desert.)

We know that Lisa is one of the most talented students in hundreds of years. We also know that Cyno studied alongside her in the Spantamad darshan (Cyno's About Lisa says they studied under the same sage, while Layla's About Lisa states her darshan.) When Collei showed up in Mondstadt with her Archon Residue, Lisa wrote to Cyno for help. He was the one who sealed it. If Cyno wasn't at least her equal, why would Lisa need to call her classmate all the way from Sumeru to help?

Cyno has to be insanely smart, or he would never have gotten into the Akademiya in the first place, let alone ascended high enough to become the General Mahamatra. (Side note: the fact he doesn't say anything about the prejudice he experiences despite it obviously happening around him means that Cyno is probably used to it. He just kept his head down and ignored it. I could make an entire post about my headcanons of Cyno and the prejudice he experienced, but that isn't the post of this one.) For an institution that values intelligence as much as the Akademiya, the sages wouldn't have felt nearly as threatened by Cyno as they did in the archon quest (using the akasha to predict his movements) if he wasn't super intelligent.

Also, we know Cyno personally investigates scholars. If he didn't have a fundamental understanding of each darshan's subject matter, he wouldn't be able to make sense of any of their projects.

It’s also the respected academic term?? The acronym isn’t static and it’s usage is varied by things like generational difference, location, and knowledge of the community. Even just in the U.S. in the last few decades the common usage gone from GLBT to LGBT to LGBTQ, to LGBTQA/LGBTQIA/LGBTQIAP/etc (Which, let me tell you as someone who has given presentations in the past using these updated acronyms, are all real mouthfulls), to LGBT+.

Also yes, queer is more inclusive! Especially coming at it from an academic standpoint, people didn’t always use or identify with the terms we use now and you can’t always try to cram them into our modern perceptions of sexuality. We can argue for years about whether a famous historical figure was gay or bisexual or straight and trans or whatever, but if we can all agree that they were somehow queer then using that term allows us to move past the debate and into productive discussion. And not everybody everywhere shares the same terms for sexual and gender identity, or even the same concepts of those things, so queer really is a more inclusive term in a lot of cases.

Like yeah if you’re talking specifically about gay or trans people you can just say gay or transgender, but if you’re talking about more than one identity or someone who doesn’t conform to our perceptions of ‘LGBT,’ or a person or people whose identity you don’t know, queer is just the better word.

I don’t know if this is just because I’m not American but I’ve never heard queer used as a slur. Ever. Meanwhile gay was the insult in the 2000s here. Everything you didn’t like was ‘soo gay’. Queer wasn’t even a word most of us knew back then.

It just baffled me that people would think an identifier is automatically a slur just because someone uses it to mock someone. If we did that gay would be a slur. Stupid would be a slur. Autistic would be a slur.

The reason people are upset about the word queer is that it’s a unifying term. You can say you’re queer and all people will know is that you’re part of the community. But you can’t say you’re LGBT, you have to say you’re gay or trans or ace. They don’t want you to be ambiguously queer. They want you to say which kind of queer you are so they can decide whether you’re undesirable.

yeah in the 90s and early 2000s kids would call each other “gay” as an insult. But no one ties themselves in knots over whether “gay” is a slur. So yeah, please ffs learn your history.

It's come to my attention that some folks don't know about Willow and Tara. If you care about Buck and Eddie, it's worth your time to learn about them, especially if you're queer.

Let me tell you a story about a time when queer people, queer women in particular, were essentially non-existent in the media — tv, movies, hardly anywhere. And along came Buffy, which gave us a nuanced, lovely, richly developed love story between two young women. Willow and Tara were main characters, and one of the core couples on the show, for many years. They shared one of the very first lesbian kisses on network television. Believe me when I tell you there was nothing — nothing even remotely close — when it came to queer representation on television at the time. Willow and Tara meant a great deal, to a great number of queer people. Still do.

And then they killed Tara. Like this.

When I tell you the rage and fury that welled up in the wake of Tara's murder. Because this time the queers fought back, demanded more and better stories as atonement. The-powers-that-be had, for the first time, given us something that was ours, making a real effort to tell our stories. So many queer folks felt seen and validated in ways we never had before. And then they killed her. The hurt and grief were real and sting to this day (I fully teared up making this post). But there is no doubt in my mind that the backlash absolutely led to the exponential growth in queer representation that happened after.

Willow and Tara's importance to queer culture — their love story and Tara's death — cannot be overstated. They have a place in the Legendary Queer Canon reserved for very few.

When I tell you that the second Eddie's blood hit Buck's face, I felt whichever queer(s) at 911 were responsible for making this happen — I felt them reaching through the screen to say: let's work through our Willow and Tara trauma together.

These gays are going to live.

I know I am always on my bullshit about how everything 911 does is on purpose. But this? Was intentional. Like nothing I have ever seen. The way they (so lovingly, romantically) filmed Eddie being shot in front of Buck wasn't just an allusion to some other tv show. They paid homage to legendary queer canon.

I just read the plot of this and somehow it gets worse???

the dwarfs are princes under a curse. In order to break the spell, they need a pair of magic red shoes. But currently the red shoes are owned by Snow White, who, get this, has “let herself go” but when she wears the shoes, they show how beautiful she is on the inside—aka thin.

So basically in order for the princes to break the curse, they have to doom Snow White to a life of fatness. why do they hate us so much.

Saw the movie recently and that’s literally not the plot at all

The advertisement group was disgusting af and when the movie came out it was actually nothing like those ads

The princes need to be loved by a “beautiful” woman but what’s beautiful is an opinion.

Snow white loves her size and strength (yeah she lifts!) but her dad goes missing and no man was willing to help her until she ended up in those red shoes. She doesn’t like what the shoes make her into. She just likes finally being helped.

It’s a love story between her and one of the dwarves where He needs to learn to not judge himself or other’s based off appearances

Spoilers but they get together at the end

He’s a prince again and she stays her cute fat self

SPOILERS BUT

Not only do they end up loving each other as they are but the prince also learns to love himself which he really… didn’t for most of the movie because he was so focused on how he looked, obsessively so (granted, I do believe the dialogue this was delivered through was a lil bit clunky but it IS a Korean written movie and sometimes translations from korean to english can sound odd)

But to go back to the matter of fat snow white, as a matter of fact, it is implied throughout the movie that she is under her own curse which is actually the shoes that make her thin and that’s because she likes how she truly looks like, and in the end, when the red shoes are no more and shes fat, that’s when the prince tells her he believes her to be the most beautiful woman in the world and finally means it, having overcome his superficiality

AND that lil shit is smitten with snow white, who remains very much fat and beautiful, by the end of it, just look at him, that heart literally came from his blush I think

Not to mention that the official instagram of the animation studio behind this, I believe Sidus they’re called? I’m on mobile I can’t look it up rn. Anyway, on their official instagram, they rarely ever post art of snow white as red shoes (her thin version) aside from promotional posters and stuff which is intentional. Like, as a fat girl, I would have killed to watch a movie like this when I was younger and now that I did watch it, it feels so odd that a fat female protagonist is the subject of affection, exactly because theres a lack of movies that feature that and this is an amazing step in the right direction. This movie has such an important message and it explores superficiality, discrimination of fat people and self love brilliantly for a kids movie and its gonna get buried,,, because the Cannes did the worst possible job at marketing and because of a very black and white tumblr mindset,,,

Also idk if that’s important to anyone else but all the princes have different implied nationalities, theres a british one, a Scottish one, an Irish one, a french one and three italian ones and some portrayals can be a bit stereotypical ngl but it’s just pretty rad to hear accents that arent british or American in a market oversaturated by these countries
