Since I regularly get this image of Yelena Belova from Marvel: War of Heroes by Marvel & CyGames submitted to me, and all the posts related to it are very funny but also pretty old, while I was going through fixing them up I decided I should just make a compilation post about it.

Besides the initial art which is pretty amazing in itself because it looks like she was just chopped in two and tossed out a helicopter, there's also these two great follow up submissions:

One by @kaliandra showing what she'd look like from the other side which is hilarious and very well done.

And one I also absolutely adore from @thatwarmtoastyfeeling showing how actually this entire image makes sense because it's actually two Black Widows (presumably Natasha is the butt) together!  Gotta get with the lore, people.

Anyway I wanted to share them because I dunno how many people reading now have seen them and I figure you'd all get a kick out of it. :3

I guess if she's a kitty, it explains the boobs and butt rubber torso pose, but she must be a munchkin cat because she's got the little baby arms.

It honestly looks more like the guns are just her trying to distract the enemy from her true weapon: the fart gun.

(Cover of Bad Kitty #1, Dynamite Entertainment)

I took one look at her head and how it was popped off of her neck (what neck?) and knew I wanted to do a quick fix. Unfortunately, I got through with giving her a neck, straightening out her torso, and lengthening her t-rex right arm when...well, the visual of her legs floating behind her cracked me up. I can't go on. No single part of her body can realistically be connected to any other part.

I love that you tried and then realized she couldn't be connected and just left her two halves floating next to each other like a bisected ghost. xD

It looks kinda like when the Enterprise separates itself in Star Trek, which I've theorized in the past is what Escher Girls do when it looks like their butts are coming off.

@coriwithclass inspired me with their fine fix-it drawing, so I decided to take a crack myself :D

Since the original cover needs so very much help (I'm not sure the comic artist has ever seen a human woman in person before) I decided to go easy on myself and just do a sketch fix instead of rendering anything out. First, I focused on adjusting her bonkers pose, fixing the escaping butt, and correcting her wonky anatomy, but left the original outfit alone. (I admit I skimped on some detailing here because WTF is this poor woman wearing... Pretty sure all the straps and belts are to cover for the bad anatomy in the original)

Ok, looking a bit better. She's got a neck, her butt isn't falling off, her face isn't melting, her tiny arm is now regular sized. Her boobs aren't supported for crap, but at least they're no longer vacuum sealed into her top. (I realized belatedly that her boots aren't actually thigh-highs - what I thought was the top of the boot was just a weird garter she's wearing for no reason. I have no idea why, other than presumably the artist thought it was sexy?) Generally, this looks plausible now. She could be a human woman in a cheesy action flick. Maybe she was mid-Cosplay-Photoshoot and got interrupted?

But I really couldn't stand the outfit, so...

I took a crack at fixing that too.

Now her hair is pulled back so she can actually see what she's aiming at. The random little X-shaped barrette that was just sort of dangling at the ends before is actually holding back loose strands from her face. I figured she'd probably want her boobs supported and covered to keep them from painfully flopping around (or getting red-hot bullet-casings down her cleavage during a firefight >o< ow), so now she's wearing a supportive bra and a comfy T-shirt instead of... whatever crop-top/boobsock thing she had going on before was. I also extended the jacket to a more normal length for similar protection reasons. She's wearing flat sturdy boots that let her move and run normally and actually protect her feet and legs, plus jeans for the same reasons. I scrapped the weird thigh garters because they serve no purpose and seem like they'd be extremely uncomfortable and impractical.

I know just enough about guns and the kickback from said guns to know that she's probably about to eat the back of that uzi the second it fires. Unfortunately for her, I don't know enough about guns to actually fix that problem for her, so... ...Hope she knows a good dentist, I guess.

I really like this redraw and the decisions you made with regards to the pose and stuff.

I also like how you did it in a hybrid way to keep the same general details of the original and in your own way too with the changed outfit and tied back hair.  It's really neat to see different interpretations and I like how you explained your reasons for the changes. :)

i felt inspired to do one of these myself, playing with the liquify tool mainly

i tried to keep in mind keeping this as fanservice-y as before but with /slightly/ less exaggeration

the thing is i really dont /get/ why the anatomy has to be so heinous. you could just make it a little less heinous and still make sexy fanservice, but it wouldnt look so blanketly awful.

I really like this! You kept the sexiness and fanserviceness but by fixing the butt, arms, and stomach, it makes her look sexier if anything, because all the weirdness isn't there anymore to detract from the overall point of the cover (which is that she's a sexy spy, I assume). And they're such simple fixes too. Great job!

This is terrifying in every way.  And also all so she can both be so thin that she has no butt but also look like she has one at the same time.  The ultimate in Escher technology.

(Cover of The Tenth: Abuse of Humanity TPB, Image Comics)

+layer in reddish brown set to colour in blending modes to get rid of that awful yellow skin tone --> warp tool to correct anatomy and pose --> rerender to make lighting more accurate and smooth issues caused by warping --> translucent red multiply later over the background to bring back contrast with the figure. Edit time: 1 hr 35 mins.

This is extremely good and I'm very impressed!  I love her new skin tone and also how you kept the same outfit but made it look more like actual clothes and not like something stuck to her body.  I also really love the pose and expression and how she's still thin and sexy but not like a worm anymore!  Great job. :3

(I figured to celebrate the New Year we should lead with a really cool redraw! Happy New Year to everybody!)

"Haven't done a redraw in forever, so it was nice to try again. This started out as just a flip of the legs but I ended up tweaking a lot more like the back and the length of the skirt. Could never figure out where to put her missing arm, so I just left it alone for now. That fold in the back of the skirt too, it still bugs me but had to give up on it. BTW With her legs turned around, the pose feels much more inviting and friendly IMHO. -MEA"

It's a subtle change but I really like what you did.  She no longer looks like she put her legs on backwards and/or was twisted like a sponge.

Definitely more inviting, if just because her legs aren't trying to run away from the audience now.

The recent post of the Action Taimanin mobile game led me down fixing the previous posts of stuff from that series, which led me to running into the hilariously great "purple cat edit" of the DVD cover of Taimanin Yukikaze by @bogpunk.

And that of course led to me finding and restoring the "purple cat edits" that started the joke which were from Yatagarasu (a.k.a. Legend of the Raven) by pippenpants and Tharek.

The purple cat became something of a meme among Escher Girls submitters at the time that even this redraw by @yondamoegi which didn't turn her breasts into a cat, kept the purple cat and drew it at her feet. xD

These were so good I wanted to compile them into a single purple cat post here to show people who haven't seen it before, and just to share them in general to start the holiday season. :3  Maybe the purple cat should be the new Escher Girls mascot.

I'm assuming Rogue absorbed the powers of like a gummi worm.  Also I don't think she has a second eye.

(Cover of Rogue gamebook, Battlebooks Inc. and Marvel Comics)

@hsavinien submitted:

I have un-broken Rogue's back, put her chest back on the front of her body, given her a solid leg to stand on, and at least implied that she has two eyes.

That little sliver of eye you added really helps her face. However, since this is Rogue during the 90s, her leg at the back is because she's flying. So the pose itself of the original makes sense although that dent in her back didn't, so I appreciate the attempt in trying to fix that!

This poor girl is being folded into pretzel just because they want her to look like she has a butt without making her actually have one.  Also she looks like she could use more fibre in her diet in the third cover.

(Covers of The Tenth: Collected Edition, The Tenth: Evil's Child #1, and The Tenth #0, Image Comics, submitted by anon)

Welcome back as I continue to try to improve anatomy using only the editing function on my phone's camera.

The first cover really raises a lot of questions. Why is her right boob smaller than her left boob? How is her bicep smaller than her forearm? Why is she flossing her butt with her arm??? Sadly there are no answers beyond: the artist has specific tastes, the way some people crave marmite or put butter on peanut butter sandwiches. The rest of us will never understand.

As always, there's not much I can do about her head and shoulders sliding back behind her, but I did give her a bicep, some meatier thighs (that actually attach to her hips!), space for a few organs, a shirt that isn't vacuum sealed over floundering boobs, AND an arm-free butt crevasse! Not bad for a few minutes with a marker tool.

This is pretty good for doing it purely using your phone's camera edit function.  Her body makes a lot more sense now and you even made her tattered shirt look like it obeys the laws of physics.

And by moving her arm in front of her leg (nice job using only just a paint program btw), the pose looks a lot better and much stronger and more heroic!

I'm very impressed.

(Incidentally I've now made a tag on EscherGirls.com for all of your redraws so readers can see them all in one place)

As a follow-up to yesterday's submission, I went looking into the comic out of curiosity and why does every single woman in this comic look like she's finally letting out a fart she's been holding in all day.

Once you see it you can't unsee it.

(Panels from Shattered Image #1, Image Comics)

I thought the lovely lady in the green and gold would be an easy fix, so I opened my screenshot of her and flipped over to the marker in the editor but I was Not Prepared for just how much her posture was inspired by cooked pasta.

Her spine was folded in half and her helium boobs were escaping confinement, so I straightened that out, then gave her a better illusion of having a butt and a chin. I thought about tackling the tumor on her shoulder, but five minutes of edits only gets you so far.

I love a good asymmetrical costume so hopefully this lady gets a good artist at some point!

This is a pretty good fix given how weird the pose is even without the cooked pasta body warping.  It looks less like she's letting out a fart she's been holding in now at least.

I really like how you're trying to take on some of these poses!

It took me a while to source this one.  It's from a scooter base sold by Cometa Scooters.

She looks fairly unhappy about her outfit suddenly shrinking by a factor of 10 and destroying her back.  Also ouch that wedgie must be so uncomfortable. D:

Welcome back as I attempt to fix anatomy with the default photo editor on my phone!

Removing the drifting boob improves the torso a good 90%. Unfortunately it is impossible to fix the owl swivel and sliding shoulder without completely redrawing the top of the picture. Instead I just repositioned her head in a less awkward way. The point of this is really just how easy it was to fix the torso. The original design is a shame because I like the overall coloring style.

I really like this. It preserves most of the action and intent and with a few small fixes makes it more logical. A more involved overhaul would probably have her face the audience viewpoint and change her lower half, since I presume the point is to show her face. Though, yes, I know the real point is to show her breasts and butt at the same time, but it's fun to have different takes and show what else could be done.

I did this lil redraw because I love Kanroji with all my queer little heart, and I wanted to see if I could adjust her cute pinup pose just so she isn't breaking her spine. She IS known to be superhumanly flexible, but... there are limits LOL

Thanks for the redraw. I think it's even cooler because you like the character and are familiar with them to think of another way to pose them that still keeps with their character.  Also I like what you came up with. :3

At first I was gonna say this might be the most normal pose she's ever been in compared to some of the others that have been submitted to this blog.

But then I looked closer and it looks like the small of her back above her butt transitions into the side of her body and it's kind of terrifying.

At first tried to make sense of that pose on her to see if it was possible to fix it.

Literally just doing the pose without twisting her spine to make her "more sexy" is already a wonderfully dynamic pose.

Don't know if the original cover referenced a woman in the same pose with the staff/long pole, but really don't think spines work that way unless you're extremely flexible.

Really love this. Great redline and idea for an alternate pose that's still dynamic and very cool. :3

Um, Valiant Force girls are doing that optical illusion pose torso forward, legs backwards pose again.  Maybe they’re taught this at knight school.

This one is at least not as confusing as Mulan’s, it just looks like she has her legs on backwards.

Im not great at anatomy either tbh but i was overcome with the urge to edit her

Nice edit! I noticed you fixed her armor a bit too. The pose definitely makes a lot more sense than the original where she literally looks like she put her legs on backwards. Also the edit kinda highlights how tiny her torso is despite how armored it is.

So, I’m by no means the world’s foremost authority on correct anatomy, but I do try to make my figures at least look appealing. Seeing a woman all stretched out like a piece of gum is just not very nice to look at in my opinion.
Besides squashing these ladies down into more manageable shapes, I also did some little tweaks like giving Lady Jasmine (yes, that is the character’s name…) a less unfortunate skin tone and having her actually LOOK at the person she’s supposed to be talking to. Her pose is still pretty weird, but there’s only so much ya can do with what you’re given. It’s just not the best panel composition, and if I had been drawing the book I might have split it into 2 or 3 panels.
As for Lara, I tried to make her look more like she does in the games? Idk to me she’s got such a distinctive look and I feel like the way she’s being drawn here is fairly generic. Most FUCKING importantly, since Lara is speaking in these panels, I drew her with her DAMN mouth open. I find speech bubbles terminating on closed mouths to just be the most annoying thing ever, not to mention it makes the face less expressive.
Anyway, that’s my bit.

Lady Jasmine (that's certainly a name for an Asian character) not having vacuum-sealed butt cleavage and Lara looking more like herself and not one of those worm aliens from Men in Black definitely are an improvement.  And you're right that Lara has a distinctive look and should at least not be drawn as another generic hot comic girl.  Thanks for the submission!

Promo Artwork for “Wild Childz”
“Wild Childz” is a pretty hotly anticipated independent doll line - they have been in production since ~2015 with progress/prototype pics popping up a bit more frequently over the last couple months. This bit of promotional artwork has been floating around for a while now, but it’s only today that I took a closer look at it and realized just how awkward and anatomically unlikely the posing for the Panda and Zebra girls looks. Legs just don’t bend that way!
While the posing of the Cheetah is…ok, the Tiger also loses points in my book for thrusting her chest out while also managing to somehow swivel both her waist and neck.

Everything from the designs to the colour scheme (which kind of hurts my eyes) to the use of “z” to pluralize words feels like it came out of a time warp from 20 years ago (for e.g. the recent Monster High reboot even moved away from those body shapes), which is probably the nostalgia that it’s going for.  Hence the women-only noodle bodies and boobs and butt poses, though they are animal hybrids(?) so anything’s possible I guess.

On a side note, as a friend pointed out while discussing this, the Zebra’s face/lips colour design feels like it’s potentially skirting the edge of controversy, and a friend mentioned she thinks the panda’s skin does too, even though obviously they’re anthropomorphizations.

It’s been a long time since a set of character designs has made me physically recoil in disgust. Putting aside the fact that the back-breaking poses and wasp waists are kind of a yikes for something being marketed to children (what if we had Bratz, but worse?), the faces are just so unappealing. The infantilized proportions coupled with human lips on animals is just so dang ugly. Couldn’t y’all have spread the features a bit farther apart on the face? Just so the characters don’t look like gross aliens??

Also: Hate the toenails. Human nails do not look good on animal feet, especially when those feet have only two or three toes. The panda girl’s feet are the most human-looking, so the nails look somewhat okay on her. But the tiger and cheetah could just as easily have painted claws, and the zebra might as well have her entire hoof painted since hooves are basically toenails anyway.

And let’s be real, if the panda girl had a species-accurate body type, it’d look more like this:

But the good news is the dolls themselves look a LOT better than the promo art. They’re made of fabric and have much more realistic waistlines as well as more appealing facial proportions (vapid expressions and sameface syndrome notwithstanding).

So apart from the possible controversies mentioned in the previous post, I guess I’d be okay with my hypothetical child playing with one of these.

The girls’ feral forms will definitely haunt my nightmares, though.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Thought I'd share this reblog of the Wild Childz post from a while back because it makes some interesting points from an anthro-art point of view and has a neat re-imagining of the panda girl (who as another comment noted is also named "Ling" and whose skill is "super good at math").

I just want to add that I did a little more research about the dolls and it appears the cloth dolls above aren't the "main" line and the plastic dolls that look like the promo art are still in development

I wanted to give this a shot. I also made her legs a bit thicker because I felt it was more in proportion to her top half.

This is cool, especially since the angle is still low but not in service of the butt shot now, it looks like she's imposingly standing over you which is kind of neat.
