Daemon is a struggling author who writes horror novels and contributes to an occult-themed magazines. He has a live-in assistant, his niece Rhaenyra, who helps him with research and housework. She respects Daemon a great deal, but sometimes scolds him for his laziness.
After his friend and colleague Harwin mysteriously vanishes, Daemon and Rhaenyra embark on an investigation that leads them to the old Dragonstone castle, determined to uncover what happened to him.
Their investigation through the foreboding halls of Dragonstone is fraught with unexpected twists and turns. They uncover disturbing secrets about the castle’s history as well as their own family’s dark past. This search leads them to encounter a number of powerful ghostly entities. Drawing upon their knowledge of the occult, they were able to put these restless spirits to rest. However, Rhaenyra proves susceptible to the malevolent influence of the ghosts, leaving her dangerously vulnerable as a result.
Fortunately, they manage to escape the place alive, despite the harrowing ordeal.
Following Daemon’s repeated efforts to save her from harm, her feelings towards him begin to change. Though she had been content with the ambiguous nature of their relationship up to this point, she now finds herself entertaining the possibility of a more romantic relationship with him.
