Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

Might I add:

The defeat of the wizard who made people choose how they’d be to be executed

The woman who raised the changeling alongside her biological child

The human who died of radiation poisoning after repairing the spaceship

The adventures of a space roomba

Cinderella finding Araura (and falling in love)

I don’t know a snappy description but the my nemesis cynthia story certainly lives in my head

I am in love with you /p

How do they choose which sand to be the glass and which sand to be the sand in an hourglass... Imagine you and your best friend were two grains of sand and you had to be in the hourglass and your bestie had to be the glass. Ur together but youve never been more apart. A Sick and twisted practice hourglassery is...

This was me off 1 chocolate croissant

Are you kidding me? I get to hold and shelter and protect my bestie for all eternity, free to look on while she tumbles joyously from top to bottom, without having to be subject to the tumbling multitudes myself? Thats not cruelty thats the fucking dream. Some of us love the freefall and some of us love peaceful stability and i think that's beautiful

Its become increasingly apparent in recent months that I'm not welcome in the spaces the fandom I'm in uses routinely.

I feel like I should give up on being sociable and friendly, because nobody seems to be okay with specifically me interacting with them in a way that is, as far as I can tell, explicitly friendly and sociable.

They're fine whenever any other person interacts with them the same way, but I get a lot of push back. Even for something as simple as "Yep, I agree with you on this, and here is why [insert personal reasoning here]." Seems to always manage to incur an incredibly hostile response, accusing me of correcting them or talking over them, or even just "being rude" and I wasn't aware in my nearly half a century of social interactions that agreeing with someone was somehow considered rude, and I don't really know how to feel about that.

Makes me want to go back to being a weird hermit who interacts with nobody at all and hides in my own secret private corner, where people only stumble upon me by accident.

It'd protect my feelings at least.

Sorry for bothering you on this. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

Honestly, this is one of those rare occasions where I actually do wonder if some BNF has started a whisper campaign against you or something.

Plenty of tone deaf people do post "agreeing" replies that sound condescending and like they're trying to hijack a post and make it all about them, but if you're 50 and not 25 and this response is a new problem, it's probably not your writing skills at fault.

In my fandom experience, when people leave comments in my meta posts saying, "Yep, I agree with you on this, and here is why [insert personal reasoning here]," at least 50% of the time it turns out they've just completely misunderstood everything I've said. They only think they agreed with me. The point they "agreed" with is not the point I actually made.

For example, a while ago I made a post complaining that the villain in a whump fic wasn't impressive enough. In my opinion, the author should have chosen a character who was scarier and more intimidating to play the role of the villain, in order to make the story more plausible.

Somehow, someone misinterpreted my post to mean that whump fic is bad and people should stop writing it. They left a response on my post saying, "Yes, I totally agree, people should stop writing fiction about torturing characters."

People on the internet cannot fucking read.

When someone says "But I agreed with them! Why are they getting mad at me?" this is the situation that comes to my mind. I've been in this situation many, many times.

.

Perhaps that's not what happened to anon.

Perhaps I'm being uncharitable.

But when someone says something along the lines of, "All I'm doing is trying to be nice and everyone is being so mean to me for no reason," without providing any specifics as to what was actually said in these interactions, it's hard to simply take them at their word.

Hahaha. Yeah, "For no reason! Gasp!" does always make one suspicious.

we have GOT to kill tiktok/twitter self-censorship i just witnessed a grown adult say the word “smex” out loud to our professor

my poor professor was SO confused that she asked them to repeat themselves and they went “you know, like, blank . . .” and kept just vaguely gesturing until she somehow connected the dots. i fucking hate art school

god i wish i was making the shit i witness at this place up. my life would be so much easier if i didn’t have to deal with my classmates seriously arguing about fandom discourse in the group project chat

the price you think you're paying by going to art school: tuition, supply costs, etc

the price you're actually paying by going to art school: having to put up with the most brain-rotting terminally online discourse imaginable in real life

I had someone argue with me that it was problematic for me to have watched Frozen with my niece because I was encouraging her to become an emotionally abuse codependent sibling. I'm a senior and I've had someone else doing their senior thesis ask, genuinely, if she was problematic for doing her thesis on domestic abuse, because sometimes domestic abuse effects rich white women and they're privileged, so therefore her doing it on that is racism apologism. I've had to sit there and watch people say "unalive", "SA", "PDF file", and my favorite, "marital relations" (it only happened once but it's really funny) to professors who look at them in total despair.

Hamlet didn't unalive himself, he killed himself. Our Crime Prevention class is discussing sexual assault and pedophiles. The implication of this paper we're reading in Intro To Africana Studies is not about white settlers marrying and having gentle loving monogamous funtimes with slaves, it's about rape.

I genuinely do not see how I'm supposed to take the people around me seriously. How am I supposed to believe you have incredible insights into something you can't bring yourself to say? How am I supposed to look over your rough draft and not cross out the euphemisms and write grown-up words?

And I DO NOT go to art school! I go to Montana State! I'm in redneck country - remember when redneck meant tough enough to at least say words?! Not anymore!

Do you know how stupid I feel that I couldn't figure out that "PDF File" was supposed to be censorship slang for "paedophile"

I should chime in and say that if this sort of thing pisses you off you *need* to be vocal about it. Because, short term and short-sighted, this is just people being overly sensitive about plain language and carrying online habits to real life which is “cringe” and “annoying” or whatever.

But long term, this type of shit is what contributes to erasure and historic inaccuracy in the first place. And its the same mentality that allows people to think that censorship, thought policing and book-banning is okay.

Please don’t let corporations and social media companies’ affinity for ad revenue and web sanitation condition you into thinking that plain honesty, communication and reality is something that can be sugar-coated and dressed up into something easier to swallow. This shit is much more dangerous than you think. If you are talking to someone in real life and you catch them talking like this, you NEED to remind them, “Hey this isnt TikTok. You can say exactly what you mean. What are you afraid of?”

Also remember this isn't an insular problem. MoPoP (Seattle's big pop culture museum) hosted a guest exhibit from a viral curator in their mid-20s earlier this year. They had to replace several of the info signs in the exhibit because the curator had chosen to use "unalive" when talking about the 27 Club.

when you download a pdf and it's called like 1328723486basdf12.pdf but then you gently rename it to what it's supposed to be. that's forming a bond with a hurt and wild mythological creature and reminding it who it is.

the real challenge of adulthood that no one tells you about in advance is how many goddamn pieces of paper you have to keep up with that are never important until they are suddenly VERY important

2010. A Japanese woman sits down to take photos of her shiba inu dog for her blog. Suddenly, a man leaps out of a time portal. "Sorry, I can't let you do this. I cannot tell you why." She asks: "Is it forbidden knowledge from the future?" He sighs: "No, it's just too fucking stupid to explain."
