I see some people in the notes thinking that this is the Death card, but it's not. It's much funnier. It's the Five of Cups, upright, which symbolizes like. Loss. Disappointment. Emotional Suffering. You thought you were going to get something and then you didn't. Even more hilarious than Fox News bringing in a tarot card reader for Trump in 2024 is that same tarot reader immediately flipping over a card that says LOSER.

The poor woman looks frankly terrified to be sitting there, on that news program, with that card, having to explain exactly what it means to people who really want the opposite outcome. At the same time, what a fucking card to pull there, I love that for him.

End ID.]

Is this real? Should I believe that fox news hired a tarot reader? ???

It is in fact real.

…As for the Indigenous fishermen, they are left with crumbs. And why should Indigenous people be limited to a “moderate livelihood” in the first place? We want Indigenous people to have all their needs fully met, not just “moderately” met.
There really is no lasting solution to this under a system driven by profit. The current setup of the lobster fishery is a mess, with big companies like Clearwater getting privileges, and small-scale fishermen being pitted against Indigenous fishermen…

oh god yeah, this has been a fucking mess! it’s basically been an anti-indigenous race riot - the fisherfolk have had paint-thinner poured over their live lobsters (killing thousands painfully), have had their tires burst by nails strewn over the road, have death threatened upon them (specifically, the threat of being locked in their facility and burned alive), have had massive mounds of live lobsters stolen and dumped in front of the commissioners office to die and rot in the open air, and finally had their facility set ablaze.

and the police have done………..nothing.

and meanwhile in Ontario, Algonquin aboriginals who’ve been protesting the decimation of wild moose populations have had their community signs shot up, and moose body parts dumped around their campsite.

Canada is not some free healthcare paradise, there is deep anti-indigenous racism and violence here that needs to be addressed,

I literally just got dehydrated from all the salt in that one paragraph

1. Fuck Trump.

2. That paragraph is a thing of beauty.

3. In case you were curious, as I was, which presidents could possibly rank LOWER, they were: James Buchanan; and Andrew Johnson.

James Buchanan was president from 1857-1861.  A sampling of what occurred during his presidency: the panic of 1857; the Utah War; the Dred Scott case decision (in which he exerted influence on the SCOTUS to make the decision broader so that it would protect slavery in the territories); Bleeding Kansas; saying that the Southern states did not have a right to secede from the union BUT that the federal government was “without power to prevent it”; blaming the desire of the Southern states to secede on “intemperate Northerners”.  So basically: the president in the run-up to the Civil War.  (His administration was also investigated by Congress for possible impeachable offenses including bribery and extortion; but he was not actually impeached.)

Andrew Johnson was president from 1865-1869.  He was Lincoln’s VP and acceded to the presidency upon Lincoln’s assassination.  He is commonly ranked as the worst president in history because of: “his bristling personality, and his enormous sense of self-importance“ (cf. Lafantasie), his actions and policies contributing to “the maintenance of white supremacy” (Trefousse); his mishandling of the Reconstruction period after the Civil War; and the fact that he was impeached (for violating the Tenure of Office act; basically, shenanigans involving his trying to replace his Secretary of War, and dismissing various military commanders involved in Reconstruction efforts).  The Senate, however, did not vote to remove him.  (Get this: in part because the man who would have acceded to the presidency was the president pro tempore of the Senate, Sen. Wade, who among other sins, supported womens’ suffrage.)  I leave you with this final comment about Johnson’s historical legacy, by historian Annette Gordon-Reed: “his preternatural stubbornness, his mean and crude racism, his primitive and instrumental understanding of the Constitution stunted his capacity for enlightened and forward-thinking leadership when those qualities were so desperately needed.

Any similarities between these historical figures and current... events, I leave as an exercise for the reader.  (*raised eyebrow*)

Finally, I would note: the rankings above were based on the Siena College Research Insitute report of 2018 (they do it every 8 years).  In other words, prior to Trump’s impeachment, and prior to... all of the events of 2020.

Hmm.

before the twitter brain worms reach this site i’m just going to nip the conspiracy theory that trump doesn’t actually have covid and is lying to get a sympathy vote in the bud. he has it. we know he has it because they did not offer up hope hicks’ diagnosis willingly. a reporter scooped it. they were not going to tell us. they got caught. and now we all know. this isn’t a conspiracy. they’re just a dangerous mixture of incompetent and malevolent. he has it.

the stock market has tanked (his biggest reason for constantly downplaying the pandemic from the start) and he’s actually cancelling rallies. nothing on earth could stop him from holding super-spreader events for his cult unless he was literally bedridden from the deadly virus that he has allowed to ravage this country. he has it. he has it and he will not receive my sympathies.

hey ok but actually

Y’all Americans aren’t brainwashed. You aren’t insane. The vast majority of you don’t agree with the rioters--or the president. It’s just that you have an extremely vocal 15% minority that care more about their own power than about anyone else’s actual lives, and somehow your president is unfortunately a member of that 15%

make it known that the majority of people dont agree with trump and co. its not helpful to make it seem like the people who disagree are a minority. its easier to stand up with others than it is to do so alone. this is one if the ways thats unions, strikes, protests, etc are prevented. its intentional. they want you to think you're alone.

yes, that small percentage may be brainwashed, but it does more harm than good to say that everyone is.

I have not seen news of this traveling outside locals in Massachusetts, so if you have a minute, please, please read the following message from the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe (yes, the one you learned about in elementary school for your Thanksgiving play), whose lands are being taken out of trust, under the radar, in the midst of a global crisis. We have reason to believe that this is directly related to Donald Trump’s personal grudges against casinos not run by his cronies.

I encourage everyone to sign this petition, contact your politicians, and spread the word to prevent this injustice.

More information available here, and at the official Mashpee Wampanoag site.

Thank you.

 ————————————–

At  4:00 pm today – on the very day that the United States has reached a record 100,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and our Tribe is desperately struggling with responding to this devastating pandemic –  the Bureau of Indian Affairs informed me that the Secretary of the Interior has ordered that our reservation be disestablished and that our  land be taken out of trust.  Not since the termination era of the  mid-twentieth century has a Secretary taken action to disestablish a reservation.

Today’s action was cruel and it was unnecessary. The Secretary is under no court order to take our land out of trust.  He is fully aware that litigation to uphold our status as a tribe eligible for the benefits of the Indian Reorganization Act is ongoing.

It begs the question, what is driving our federal trustee’s crusade against our reservation?

Regardless of the answer, we the People of the First Light have lived here since before there was a Secretary of the Interior, since before there was a State of Massachusetts, since before the Pilgrims arrived 400 years  ago.  We have survived, we will continue to survive.  These are our lands, these are the lands of our ancestors, and these will be the lands of our grandchildren.  This Administration has come and it will go.  But we will be here, always.  And we will not rest until we are treated equally with other federally recognized tribes and the status of our reservation is confirmed.

I  will continue to provide updates on this important issue in the coming days as we take action to prevent the loss of our trust status.

Kutâputunumuw;

Chairman Cedric Cromwell Qaqeemasq (Running Bear)

I also just want to add that it came out in the days following this news that, surprise surprise, the Mashpee Wampanoag have long been in the process of trying to build a casino in SE MA, on their land.  It has been opposed by others who have casinos in the area, including Twin River.  The president of Twin River, George Papanier, was once a finance executive at the Trump Plaza casino hotel in Atlantic City. (HMMMMMM.)  Matt Schlapp, chairman of the Conservative Political Action Committee, is a lobbyist for Twin River casinos, Keating noted. His wife, Mercedes Schlapp, is the White House strategic communications director. (HMMMMMM.) Trump attacked Native American casinos in the past as unfair competition when his operations in Atlantic City were still functioning, at one point calling them the “biggest scandal ever.”

Trump last year attacked the proposed federal Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation Reaffirmation Act, which sought to protect members’ “tribal homeland.” The bill was later passed by the House, but failed to get through the Senate.  (Because the Senate is holding up over 400+ pieces of legislation passed by the House, this one among them.)

(Above info from here. Note, there is even more appalling racism and bigotry from Trump quoted in the article. Not a surprise, I suppose.)

Even though I live in MA, I hadn’t really kept up with the ins and outs of the above story.  But the moment - THE MOMENT - I heard about this, my first thought was, okay, what’s on that land / who wants that land?  Because isn’t that always the way?

The action taken by the Dept. of Interior and the BIA is absolutely INFURIATING.  But it has nothing to do with any reasoned assessment of the Mashpee Wampanoag’s status.  (Not, I should add, that any reasoned assessment should conclude anything but to reaffirm their status, as the House bill says.)  Instead, OF COURSE, it has to do with greed, grift, and shady business deals, led by the worst person on earth, the man unfortunately sitting in the Oval Office.

*gestures broadly*  THESE MOTHERFUCKERS.

ok yall ive already answered this like 10 times and i keep getting anons about it so im gonna just make a post explaining this impeachment pls refer to this

DONALD TRUMP HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY IMPEACHED BY THE UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON 2 ARTICLES.

This does NOT mean he is no longer President. He is still the President.

The next step is to refer the impeachment to the US Senate, who will have to vote by a 2/3 majority to convict Trump. The Senate is Republican-controlled, so it is very unlikely that he will be convicted.

What does this mean? Trump is the 3rd ever President in US history to be impeached. No US President has ever been thrown out of office. It means he will not be kicked out of office, and will still be able to run in 2020.

If he were convicted, it would mean Pence would become President. We do not want Pence to become President. When Democrats win in 2020 and Trump is no longer the President, he can still be investigated and arrested for the crimes he has committed.

Also just going to add on in case it isn’t clear, why this is such a big deal, even though he remains in office.

Impeaching Trump sets a legal precedent, which is what national law is based off of. Trump has committed crimes, corruption, and abused his office as President of the United States. If he weren’t impeached for this, it would set a precedent that this is not an impeachable offense for future Presidents. This had to be done to uphold the rule of law.

This wasn’t about removing him from office. He will not be convicted by the Senate. This is about upholding our Constitution, the rule of law, and setting a legal precedent constraining the President of the United States from practicing corruption.

Additionally, this will go down in history forever and tarnish his reputation. He is the 3rd President in history to be impeached. That is a huge deal yall. This is extremely important even though it didn’t remove him from office.

Berliners are sending a piece of the Berlin Wall to Trump, with the message: “We would like to give you one of the last pieces of the failed Berlin Wall to commemorate the United States’ dedication to building a world without walls”

Dear President Trump,
This is an original piece of the Berlin Wall. For 28 years, it separated east and west, families, and friends.
It divided not only Berlin and Germany, but the whole world. Too many people died trying to cross it—their only crime being their desire to be free. Today the world celebrates the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Germany is united again, and only a few scattered pieces remind us that no wall lasts forever.
For decades, the United States played a major role in bringing this wall down. From John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan, the Presidents of the USA fought against it.
We would like to give you one of the last pieces of the failed Berlin Wall to commemorate the United States’ dedication to building a world without walls.

Citizens of Berlin

I fucking love this

Donald Trump suggested “getting rid” of federal judges after the courts repeatedly ruled against his controversial policies, according to a senior administration official.

The US president even asked lawyers to draft a bill reducing the number of judges during one of his rants in the White House, it is claimed.

“Can we just get rid of the judges?”, the president asked aides, according to the anonymous author of A Warning. “Let’s get rid of the [expletive] judges… There shouldn’t be any at all, really.”

Mr Trump has suffered several reversals in the courts since he became president – most notably in relation to his 2017 ban on travel from seven Muslim countries including Iran, Somalia and Yemen.

After the executive order was blocked by Washington district judge James Robart, Mr Trump accused him of putting the country in peril and added:”If something happens blame him and court system.” An amended version of the ban was eventually upheld by the Supreme Court in June 2018.

In November 2018 Mr Trump renewed his attacks on the judiciary after district judge Jon Tigar halted the Trump administration’s attempts to prevent migrants from applying for asylum.

Despite being rebuked by Supreme Court chief justice John Roberts for describing judge Tigar as an “Obama judge”, the president went on to claim that 9th US Circuit Court of Appeal was “a complete and total disaster” and “out of control”.

More recently a federal court judge ruled Mr Trump’s declaration of a national emergency over the country’s southern border was unlawful. And this week an appeals court ordered the president to hand over his tax returns to prosecutors.

However, rather than getting rid of federal judges, Mr Trump appears to have decided to simply appoint more judges in an attempt to “tip the balance” of the courts.

The president has already nominated two Supreme Court justices, 44 Circuit Court judges, and 112 District Court judges, according to the White House.

In a statement hailing what it calls a “historic transformation of the judiciary”, the Trump administration complained that “activist judges have repeatedly used nationwide injunctions to block the policies of the democratically-elected president.”

Only a Republican tyrant would even think of asking such a question! That mere “inquiry” should have triggered either an Impeachment process or an invocation of the 25th Amendment. (And if VPOTUS is found to be in cahoots with POTUS’ criminal shenanigans, then control transfers to Speaker of the House of Representatives)

THIS FUCKIN’ GUY.  He’s so stupid.  And SO DANGEROUS.  aargh.

To the last comment though -- listen.  Everyone needs to be prepared for the fact that everybody in the Senate and the GOP can see this outcome approaching.  VPOTUS is appearing to be very much implicated.

Just as with the Nixon situation -- do NOT put it past the GOP to force VPOTUS to resign prior to a POTUS removal or resignation, so as to put someone in place who both can’t be removed, and who will be a more effective party leader during the 2020 elections.  If it comes to that.

(I mean, interestingly, when they replaced Spiro Agnew with Gerald Ford, they still miscalculated.  Ford was inoffensive, except for having pardoned Nixon. But he wasn’t able to win the ‘76 election, either.)

One thing you can be sure of: there is NO WAY the Senate/GOP is going to sit there and allow Nancy Pelosi to become POTUS upon the removal of both Trump and Pence.  They would rather literally set both Congress and the White House on fire.
