Harbour seal for @banjoodle. Love how this little guy came out!
Petit Manan Lighthouse, Petit Manan Island, Steuben. Possibly my favorite lighthouse. In the summer, this island is home to hundreds of birds. Including Atlantic puffins, arctic, common and roseate terns, as well as black guillemots and many more. Decided I couldn't draw them all, but here's a couple attempts to try and capture the island's vibes. Can you spot the oystercatchers?

A late summer boat ride, after the puffins and terns had left, was the inspiration for my second wintery seamless illustration, featuring Maine animals. Far fewer species in the off season, but we've got some good ones. Harbor seals and herring gulls are pretty reliable, and always adorable .

from the website:
“Seal is the embodiment of gracefulness. She is a spirit of the sea, calm, delicate and full of joy for being.
She is a reminder to enjoy the little things, and pause to bask in the moment.”

Ringed seal! Smallest and most common arctic seal. Apparently there’s a fancy “new” distinct ecotype in Greenland that was described this year! :-)

Huge news for fans of ringed seals or, as they are known here in Finland, norps, a new norp just dropped!
Important notes on vocabulary: Finnish has a specific word for ringed seal (norppa) in addition to a broader term that covers all seals (hylje). Norppa is just such a fun word that my partner and I have adopted it into English as "norp," because it's more fun to say than "ringed seal."
Finnish also has a specific term for baby seals: instead of being called seal pups (which is cute in its own way), or pentu, the term for a baby seal in Finnish is kuutti. This we have also adopted into English as "cute" via the process of phono-semantic matching. Because seal pups are cutes.
"Norp" is practically an onomatopoeia for a seal's bark.
NORP NORP NORP NORP
That's how my partner and I use it too. Norps are famously always saying NORP NORP
