Erebus in the Forest of Death

@erebusvincent

At my age, I was into everything before it was cool. To be conscious at all is to be conscious of our own isolation.

If, as people claim, Project 2025 has absolutely nothing to do with Donald Trump, who exactly is it for? He was never going to allow anyone else to run in 2024, and a Democrat certainly wasn’t going to implement it. So the question of whether or not Trump had any association with its creation is moot. There is no one else it could possibly have been crafted for.

Also, enough with the histrionic Gilead TikToks. Men love those. Why are you making despair porn for those ghouls? Have some self respect.

The policies and structure of the federal government are important, as they affect all of us in different ways. It’s always worth discussing reforms to make it more effective and better able to fulfill their mission. When the conversation turns into grievance by people with a cynical disbelief in government, the environment becomes ripe for authoritarianism. But we’ve already seen where Project 2025 will take us. Vichy France tried to form a Christian nationalist autocracy with many of the same ideas around education, religion, and out-groups. And that did not lead France to an era of prosperity. It led to economic ruin, starvation, and complicity in evil.

Trump has publicly rejected Project 2025 as Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has sought to tie him to some of the plan’s most extreme proposals. But in private, Vought said that those disavowals were merely “graduate-level politics.”

Vought said his group, the Center for Renewing America, was secretly drafting hundreds of executive orders, regulations, and memos that would lay the groundwork for rapid action on Trump’s plans if he wins, describing his work as creating “shadow” agencies. He claimed that Trump has “blessed” his organization and “he’s very supportive of what we do.”

“Eighty percent of my time is working on the plans of what’s necessary to take control of these bureaucracies,” Vought said. “And we are working doggedly on that, whether it’s destroying their agencies’ notion of independence … whether that is thinking through how the deportation would work.”

In discussing Trump’s plan to carry out the largest deportation in US history – which the former president has called for publicly – Vought said the expulsion of millions of undocumented immigrants could help “save the country.”

Once deportations begin, “you’re really going to be winning a debate along the way about what that looks like,” Vought said. “And so that’s going to cause us to get us off of multiculturalism, just to be able to sustain and defend the deportation, right?”

Times change, but promoting liberty by reducing the government power—rather than harnessing it on behalf of "conservative" or populist nostrums—remains the right way to revive the the nation. I'm glad Reagan and Kemp aren't here to see what's happened to their legacies.

Something to consider concerning yesterday’s presidential immunity decision is that not only would the Court never have come to that decision for anyone else, but it portends something much worse to come. The Court doesn’t believe Donald Trump is going to leave office if re-elected. Come 2028, if he decides not to hold elections (and he will unquestionably do that) the Court will rule in his favor. Somehow, six integralist weirdos will justify suspending presidential elections on behalf of the former host of The Apprentice.

I don’t think Joe Biden’s policies are bad, but I get that the dude is old. I’d vote for Newsom, Whitmer, Shapiro, Polis, or Moore, but I don’t think the country would.

The threat is Project 2025, Integralism, and Christian Nationalism. Re-electing Jimmy Carter is preferable to that. Certainly some guy who’s not as sharp as he used to be is preferable to a guy who is truly bonkers and wants to plunge our great, just, and prosperous national into religious fundamentalism.
