Hana-Rawhiti Kareariki Maipi-Clarke, the youngest MP in Aotearoa, starts a haka to protest the first vote on a bill reinterpreting the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi

Goes insanely hard

To provide further context from what I understand the bill wanted to take the rights guaranteed to the Maori in said treaty and expand them to all New Zealand citizens. The issue with that is that it sort of defeats the point of the protections of the treaty.

Currently the recognised "principles of the Treaty of Waitangi" are

  • the Government has the right to make laws;
  • Māori retain ownership of their lands and other resources;
  • everyone is equal under the law.

The second point, critically, applies not just to Māori individuals but to Māori social institutions and organizations, which are also granted the right to self-management.

The Bill being protested here would have removed the right of Māori social institutions to manage lands and other resources.

Time to post my favorite sequences from Samurai Jack

Ok, so this makes no sense at all, but I love it.

This is one of most well done fight scenes in animation “makes no sense” my ass

Dude can you imagine how fun the animators have animating this?? I mean it’s a pain in the butt but look at it! It’s so good! No dialogue no quibs basically playing tag with shadow and light like that some good shit right there

And the subtlety too?? time actually moves so you have smaller and smaller white areas. And that tiny shakes when the robot landed at the end?? *chef kiss* perfection

Samuri jack is peak animation. Literally some of the best visuals I’ve ever seen

I remember watching this episode way back and being impressed then. Nowadays with my slightly better understanding of animation I appreciate this episode even more! Its simply brilliant!

Dr. Gachey with foxglove, 1890

Some of Van Gogh’s best work was done during a period of his life that he spent in a hospital being treated for his mental health problems. I could be wrong but I think Starry Night was among those.

This is consistently the case. Creators tend to do their best work when they are in a healthy place and receiving proper treatment and not being self destructive in their efforts to cope. Go figure.

All our experiences, good and bad, inform what we create, but suffering is not the price of great art. Suffering is what prevents artists from completing great art.

(I bring to mind this @tkingfisher / Ursula Verson quote about once a week <3)

– You did a lot of training for this [...] So that process for you, Paul said it was fun! – Yeah, I bet it was. I bet it was fun for him, maybe it would've been fun for me too if I was twenty years younger.

This is probably my favorite image of all time I first saw it years ago and it has stuck in my head since then. The only vibes I’ll ever need

This has the same cuteness overload vibes as this:
