On this day in 1936, King Edward VIII abdicated the throne so that he could marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee. In recognition of that historic event, here's a flashback post of Simpson's wedding ensemble. The dress was designed to be modest and simplistic, yet regal and feminine, in recognition of the immense scandal caused by the marriage.
