Oof that's hard. My orthopedic surgeon told me when I broke my leg that healing is a process and not an event, but FUCK THAT I know you just want to be better!
YES EXACTLY! Haha, of course that is a good reminder and all kinds of true but STILL!

ugh i feel you about the wrist thing man, I had that once and it sucks out so much from your day
Ahhhh, so sorry you had that -- did you break your wrist like I did, or was it nerve damage separate from that? Either way, mucho sympathies! It’s driving me nuts because there are things my wrist and fingers should be more capable of doing, and more challenges I should be taking on, but the nerve damage is messing with my progress.

Uggghhh I feel you, that's super frustrating and even if you know it's just a temporary setback in the moment it can be such a pain (literal and figurative). I hope that it feels better soon!
Definitely! The sort of abstract-ness of knowing some snags can be part of the healing process is somehow not terribly comforting in the middle of wanting to kick things around the room, blah.
And thank you for the nice messages, all of you! <3
bookworm428 replied to your chat: my occupational therapist: You know what? I think...
I like to tell my clients to drop their arm/leg/whatever into my hand. Somehow changing my language to saying “drop” helps a lot. I also tell myself in my head to “play dead” in order to relax but that doesn’t go over well with clients it’s SO hard to relax isn’t it!
I can definitely see how hearing a different term could help! I’m hearing it in my head now and trying to “drop” my thumb from where it apparently wants to be, in some weird salute/alert position. Omg, relaxing is the haRDEST!
It’s super exciting to use both my hands while showering once again. I’m not sure why I’m surprised that it takes literally half the time to do things now that I’m getting the use of my left hand back, but frands, it takes literally half the time when I have two hands to wash my hair!
Today's the first day I begin gradually weaning my left wrist off wearing the brace. I’ve decided petting Serene Cat with my brace off totally counts as wrist mobility exercise.

How along are you in recovery? :(
Thank you for asking! I have another solid week of having to wear my brace 24/7, and then I will begin to wean my arm off it. So that’s six weeks total of the brace (except during showers) which, really, was far better than I had first anticipated.
I also got to start occupational therapy at the start of this week. Just fingers for now, which is exactly as silly looking as it probably sounds -- basically knuckle bends with flair! tbh I hope to be an amazing shadow puppeteer when all is said and done. So yay for being at that stage of the healing. And I’m driving locally once again as of last weekend, which is fantastic. I’m definitely eager to get back to full use of the hand, no brace, down the line, but things are looking up!
I'm so glad I've been such a ridiculously sorrow tiger sorrow tiger thorough tagger in the past because at least the night hides the right tags I need pop up
easily
On the bright side, the mister has refined his ponytail fastening skills to the point where it hardly looks at all as though a tiny distracted child just shoved fistfuls of my hair through a scrunchie!
Meanwhile, anyone have voice to text apps they can recommend?
quick wrist injury update: turns out i won’t need surgery for my wrist, so that is a huge relief!
it is my left wrist that’s broken btw - uncomfortable + tough to do normal stuff + typing is super slow one-handed (normally i’m a v fast typist). But I can hand-write with my right/dominant hand - good news as I need to keep turning in wkly pages for my writing class.
ty again to so many people for your lovely good wishes! I appreciate it v much indeed!
