Imagine Chekov taking over the science station after Spock has died, and trying not to cry as his mentor and friend is now gone, and feeling unworthy of being in his place, feeling not ready, not knowledgeable enough to be at the head science station. And then jim sees Chekov red eyes, and reassures him that he is good enough, and that Spock always has been proud to be Chekov's mentor and often spoke to Jim about how brilliant he is and that he has all the potential, causing Chekov to smile.
