Definitely the best impulse purchase I’ve made in a while ☕️📚
Kurt Vonnegut, Breakfast of Champions (via whyallcaps)
“maybe the problem is me.”
Hi, duke! *curtsies* do you think you could give me some book recs similar to catch-22? I love dark humor war books. Also, I'm curious if you've read it- I didn't see a tag
*curtsies* I’ve actually never read Catch-22 but by the sound of it you might like The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. Like, be warned, it’s not all fun and games, it kinda fucked me up, but there are some brilliantly funny moments, too.
Read Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut!

Do you have a suggestion for a good place to start with Vonnegut? I got a ways into Breakfast of Champions and I'm just not feeling it and I'm not sure if it's his style or the book specifically. I wanted to give something else a try to see if maybe I'll like that better and come back to BoC later. Any ideas?
I’ve only read two Vonneguts (with the hopes of keeping the “Vonnegut every summer” tradition going strong in 2014).
I started out with Cat’s Cradle in 2012 and started Slaughterhouse-Five last summer (and finished it in December, because of reasons). I did it in that order based on the fact that I was able to get my hands on Cat’s Cradle first, but I’m glad it’s the one I read first, simply because holding off on Slaughterhouse-Five allowed me to gain more knowledge of trauma theory.
Not yet sure if I’ll be reading Breakfast of Champions or The Sirens of Titan this summer. (I need to check with my brother to see if he has a copy of either before I go out and buy one.)
You can never recover from trauma, only cope. One way to cope is to tell yourself you were once abducted by aliens.
