so i was curious & i remembered that blackwood's mask has "blacky" on the little neck protector chin thing

and given that skaters wear their numbers on their helmets & goalies don't, i wondered if the name on the chin served the same purpose, to make sure the gear doesn't get mixed up. so i looked up askarov's masks!

^ 2 different masks for world juniors in 2019 & 2020, neither of them have his name (but they DO both say "red machine" on the side which is soooo unbelievably dorky <//3 very 17 year old behaviour.) then i found a highlight posted by the khl facebook page in 2021 and...

whats that? on the chin of his mask?

this is his SKA st petersburg mask. here's another angle

so it probably says "ASKAR," right? but i can't find an angle where I can see all of it. well, the nhl is probably gonna be better photographed than the khl, so let's look at his gear for nashville.

yeah, that says Askar. not as fun a nickname as Asky... the barracuda flickr account is public though, so just for fun, let's check on his new mask!

if i've sized it correctly (begging & pleading that this is the case) it should be the right size to fit a pack of standard playing cards, rather than an actual tin of mackerel :) as soon as i have access to a printer again i’m making it a reality
