Merlin is still trending and i want to say something important:

Merthur is not ‘queer baiting’. Anyone with eyes could see that the powerful, believable, star-crossed love story in the show was between Merlin and Arthur.

Julian Murphy: “We did, very genuinely, think of the episode as a love story between two men. Which is what I think it is, jokes and innuendo aside,” he says. McGrath adds that, “you can’t deny that Merlin and Arthur do love each other, you know? In whatever love way you want to think, there is no denying.”

I’m genuinely grateful to the producers and the director (the same one as for 5.01 and 5.02 - also strongly Merthur) that they wrote and shot and allowed the final Merthur interaction to be acted as a love scene.

Merlin will go on and on and wait for Arthur to rise again - that, we were explicitly told, was their fate. That’s why a part of me loved the ending. I’m very, very grateful they chose finally to honour Merlin and Arthur, and Colin and Bradley, and give us this at the end.

Everything was saved and elevated by the decision to make the ending all about Merlin's relationship with Arthur, the HEART of the show.

Everything from the ‘Just hold me,’ said in Arthurs old imperious Merlin-speak was beautiful. Arthur’s speech, his need to tell Merlin at the end how much he meant to him, his ‘Sorry‘ and his ‘Thank You‘. The emotion conveyed between Colin and Bradley, the way they played the physicality of the scene – it was stunning :)

Hello! What’s the things that REALLY bugs you about the Merlin show?

Hi anon^^

Merlin is the show I love and still obsessed with, but for me there are quite a few of those..

  • they have kept Arthur’s character ridiculously oblivious and ignorant.. that’s been done to the point of absurdity.. as a result not enough character development for him.. Bradley did an exceptional job with what have been given to him, but still.. Poor Arthur
  • they continuously pressed the “reset button” especially in the relationship dynamic between Arthur and Merlin..
  • the creators, writers, producers all lacked balls or skill to reveal Merlin’s magic much MUCH earlier and let the show naturally progress from that
  • it felt as Gwen’s character was reduced to just one note epic love interest in later seasons
  • Morgana was TOO EVIL for no reasons. Her arc doesn't make sense
  • not much character development and progression to some characters who really needed it, especially after so-called time skips. The 5th season should have been a total rewrite. They knew this would be their last season yet they wasted time with plots that didn’t matter and only sped up and rushed it at the end. The Gwen brainwashing plot was so stupid. I hated that it took such a chunk of the final episodes of the show. Definitely should have nixed that
  • last but not the least, whoever is that person who decided it was a great idea to finish the show with killing off Arthur, by NOT fullfilling the promised destiny and that poor depressed miserable Merlin walking in 21st century.. So to whoever thought it was a great idea and decided to steer the show that way.. here is my eternal “F**K U!! :D

As you can tell even after this many years I am still stuck at the 3rd stage of grief.. Anger!

Don’t get me wrong, I Love LOVE this show.. but it just drives me mad the missed potential and of how much better it could have been.

Merlin | 5x13

This scene made me tremble a bit. This is when Arthur realizes how bloody powerful Merlin is, though he looks nothing like it. Colin's acting along with the music makes this scene somewhat terrifying. it's just as though he suddenly realises that this man he's called a moron over the years could easily bring down his home. I know Arthur says he thinks Merlin is the bravest man he ever knew, but this is one of those things that proves it.

Ok, this scene is really sad. And it's sad because Arthur thinks it's his fault if Mithian betrayed him. That HE must have done something wrong, again.

How many times has Arthur been betrayed by his allies or the people he loved?

Morgana, Lancelot, Gwen, Agravaine, Uther etc

This man crealy has trust issues, at this point.

I know that Arthur has many flaws and many times he's a jerk, but i still feel sorry for him. He doesn't deserve this.

I have two headcanon about Merlin’s immortality:

My first headcanon is that Merlin doesn’t become immortal until he goes to the Crystal Cave in the final episodes. Blue butterflies can have a lot of meanings but they mean eternal life, which fits best in episode 5.12/13. Merlin reached his full potential in that Cave, immortality included.

Merlin does survive suprisingly well in the previous seasons, eg the Dorocha in episode 4.01, the Lamia in 4.08, the Serkret in 3.01. However that’s all easily explained by his magic protecting him.

My second headcanon is that Merlin was always immortal, since s1.  We could  argue that the first hint was actually in The Poisoned Chalice where Merlin dies temporarily. I always thought that he did get the cure too late and it was thanks to his immortality that he survived.

We got another great hint in the next episode when Mordred uses his other name Emrys. A name which literally means immortal, coming from Ambrosius and ultimately from the Greek Ambrosia, the food of the gods.

Merlin was also able to see Avalon without dying.

So maybe Merlin was always immortal, and in the Crystal Cave he just reached his full power.

I don’t know what to think because the writers never explained shit lmao 😭😭😭

Unpopular opinion (maybe):

"I have magic. I use it for you Arthur...only for you!"

This sentence is so wrong and it is also a lie. Merlin doesn't use magic only for Arthur.

Merlin uses magic even for himself. Merlin wants to use magic for himself. Because he LOVES magic. And there is nothing wrong about it.

Merlin IS magic

Without magic, Merlin is lost.

Merlin doesn't have to explain himself. Merlin doesn't have to be ashamed of who he is.

Just a friendly reminder :)

Why do the writers always delete the scenes with character development and great dynamics?

Merlin and Gwaine discussing about Gaius and Gwaine's father? Not important! Gwaine is only a comic relief now.

Merlin and Arthur discussing about Morgana? Who cares! Arthur and Morgana are not brother and sister after all. They didn't grow up together. Arthur doesn’t care about that evil witch. He never cared.

Mordred expressing hesitation to Morgana about joining her too soon before giving Arthur a second chance? Nah. Mordred is super evil now. End of story.

Arthur gave Merlin Ygraine's sigil AND shows how much Arthur still thinks about his mother and cares for Merlin? How Arthur accepting him in his family? Fuck this scene. Arthur is a prince and Merlin just a stupid servant! We can't elevate this stupid servant.

Merlin doesn’t intend to join everyone seated at the round table, but Arthur calls him over to sit at his side? Delete this shit! Arthur and Merlin are not equal. They are not two sides of the same coin.

....this is clearly not important.

Thank you, writers!

I don’t see many people talking about these two scenes, but I love them

-Arthur finally realized Merlin is not a servant and never was. Merlin was MORE than that. And Arthur finally acknowledge it.

-Arthur apologizes for his treatment of him. THAT WAS MY MAIN ISSUE WITH THE WHOLE SERIES. Arthur apologizes.  I’ve been waiting for this moment for a very long time.

As a Merthur and ARTHUR’s fan,  i’m just happy.

😭

THE WAY HE SHOVES IT INTO HIS MOUTH AND POKES HIS EYES THIS IS THE KING OF CAMELOT IMAO

And....the complete lack of consequences lol!

The best thing about this scene was that it was directly after George gave Merlin servant lessons.

Arthur: George will give you lessons to improve your services

Merlin: Is that a challenge...

I love that little shit sm

Other two things that really pissed me off about Merlin's ending are

-Arthur never found out the truth about his mother

-Arthur still respects and loves Uther.  Yeah, Uther. The same asshole who committed genocide. The same asshole that in season 5 disowned him, tried to kill his wife (again), Percival and Merlin. And Arthur still loved this guy. He was still so blind about him.

Sigh
