Some of the setting concepts from Core Masters of the Universe (2021)
Did you like skeletons book I was really surprised that they made Keldor part of the royal family and not a blasters
Keldor is usually a member of the royal family.
Even in the DC run when he was a bastard, Keldor was still considered a member of the royal family and given the title of "Prince".
It's really only the Mike Young Production cartoon where Keldor has no known connection to Randor.
The show bible for the cartoon states that Keldor is Miro's bastard, but the show never makes use of it, so its basically the same as Keldor being unconnected.
I think it makes perfect sense that Keldor is not just a member of the royal family but also in the running for Heir to the Throne in the new "I, Skeletor" book. Especially since the book is a direct tie-in with the Core/CGI cartoon and the cartoon very clearly showed Keldor to be a present member of the royal family.
CGI MotU Headcanon (or fic idea if anyone wants to write it)
During the reign of King Miro, the Royal Magician was a mysterious Word Witch known as the Faceless One. A tall, imposing man who used his magic to create the illusion that he did not have a face.
The Faceless One had a daughter, the Lady Evelyn, whom was herself a very talented student of magic and aspiring Word Witch. It was rumored that she would one day succeed her father as the Royal Magician. Although, Evelyn herself had her sights set a little higher.
Prince Keldor also had an interest in the study of magic. As a Prince, there was no magic teacher suitable for someone of his status than the Royal Magician. Inevitably, Lady Evelyn and Prince Keldor ended up studying and practicing their magic together.
…
Kronis was an orphan and grew up in the vocational orphanages of the Lower Wards of Eternos. When he was a teenager he won an apprenticeship under King Miro’s Man-at-Arms, Dekker. Kronis was one of half a dozen orphans apprenticed under Dekker. Most of them were just happy to up in a higher Ward of the city with a better life.
But Kronis wasn’t satisfied just working as an engineer for the crown. He wanted to be the top engineer and weapons master for the crown. Kronis wanted to be the next Man-at-Arms. And he was willing to do whatever it took to ensure that he would get the position.
Kronis was always the first to volunteer for any tasks, even the dirty, thankless, or dangerous ones. And if that failed to get him the attention he wanted, he was not above sabotaging his fellow apprentices.
After a while, Kronis was given responsibility overseeing the maintenance of the royal family’s personal vehicles; including Prince Keldor’s skysled.
That was how Kronis ended up meeting Prince Keldor and his magic-study companion, Lady Evelyn.
To say the three became “friends” would be disingenuous. Kronis’ social status prevented him from ever being friends with someone born into an Upper family, never mind the Prince himself! But the three recognized something in each other. They were all very different, but there was something within them that was exactly the same. A hungry ambition that bordered on ruthless.
…
When Randor succeeded Miro as King, Lady Evelyn was promoted to Royal Magician, just like everyone always knew she would.
But Keldor also convinced his brother to promote the engineer Kronis to Man-at-Arms instead of Dekker’s original choice, Orius (Mecaneck).
Without realizing it, King Randor had handed the two most powerful positions in his court to Prince Keldor’s best friends.
an aspect I like about the new cgi heman is that they made, for the most part, king randor an opposing force but didn't just go "hey he's an evil king" and leave it at that, while his rule is flawed he does show care for his people and honest thinks he/any king should have control over greyskulls power (even after finding out his son's he-man still viewing the power as dangerous/"no one is above the law" not even the royal family)
Randor is a flawed man, but he's a good man.
He's a complicated character with nuance and I love it.
He, himself, is a good person who cares about people. But a bad King who does not take actions against poachers or implement social/economical safety nets for citizens who lose property during disasters.
I get the feeling that after Adam and Keldor's disappearances, Randor just stopped caring about actually being King. He's not very invested in his job and so he's not good at his job. As such, he lets a lot of things that a King should be taking care of fall through the cracks.
A short little drabble based off of this exchange between @why-must-a-blog-be-named and myself.
This is the most succinct summary of Adam’s relationship with his parents I've ever seen:
Based on everything that’s stated about Miro in supplementary material like wikis and bios, I always imagine him as sort of the Eternian version of Henry VIII for IRL history, or Maester Pycell from Game of Thrones.
So, it’s kinda jarring when I’m reading a comic and King Miro is actually more of a slutty King Theoden from Lord of the Rings.
