Hi! Who are the top 5 Star Wars characters who you absolutely loathe? And the top 5 that you like?

Ooh. Loath. That's one I haven't thought about...

5.) Anakin Skywalker - inorganic character arc. His fall to the dark side felt abrupt and forced.

4.) Calissta Ming - no tangible reason. Just didn't like her or her story arcs.

3.) Ben Solo/Kylo Ren - whiny brat who throws a tantrum any time he doesn't get what he wants. He's a grown ass adult and he acts like a fussy toddler. Did not enjoy a single moment he was on screen. And I usually like dark haired sad boys with daddy issues. But Kylo Ren just missed all my buttons and irritated me instead.

2.) Jason Solo/Darth Caedus - he killed Mara Jade.

1.) R.A. Salvatora - not a character, a real life person. The author who wrote Vector Prime, killed Chewie, and set in motion the decline of the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

Top 5 Star Wars characters I Like!

5.) Grand Admiral Thrawn

4.) Talon Karrde

3.) Luke Skywalker

2.) Mara Jade

1.) Mara Jade

Basically, my favorites are every character created by Timothy Zahn, and then Luke Skywalker is also there.

Illustrations by Dan Veesenmeyer, “Star Wars Insider” Issue #57. November, 2001.

In 2001, Dan Veesenmeyer was tasked to illustrate 48 characters from the New Jedi Order in only 14 days. The art was to accompany Dan Wallace’s “Who’s Who in the New Jedi Order” article for the “Star Wars Insider” magazine, detailing the various Jedi from different media at the time. Veesenmeyer expanded on his process via the TheForce.net’s messages boards back in 2001, and was kind enough to share his preliminary and final art of Mara Jade with Jade Crusades and participate in an exclusive interview! Below is an excerpt:

What preparations did you go through before producing the image of Mara Jade for the “Star Wars Insider” #57 “Who’s Who in the New Jedi Order” article?

I have a lot of reference that I go through; Covers of the novels and comics, a few photos of Shannon from her Decipher card shoot. I tried to come up with a Mara that had one key element: Easily recognizable by fans, even if her name was not attached below the art. I’ve found that at this point, many artists are using Shannon as the primary look for Mara in their work. Therefore, it’s kind of what fans expect. I used Shannon as the basis for my Mara but then altered it just enough to not let it be a literal translation of her face. Fuller hair, more defined features - a smoldering look that Mara should have.

First ever commission for fellow Luke x Mara fan @angel-gidget, who asked for our badass duo in the nick of action and Luke in the Yuzhaan Vong armor, which was surprisingly easier to draw than I thought it would be XD

I love Mara's braid. So much art of her has her hair down and blowing dramatically, but in the books she always has it pulled back and out of the way in a braid.

abandoned Star Wars fic #1

This was an AU I started a while back (2014) based off the pre-Disney Buyout version of the Expanded universe. It’s basically just “what if Luke did join the Empire like he was discussing with Owen and Beru back in A New Hope?”

My original plan was for the fic to be a trilogy, following the same main events of the original trilogy. I abandoned it because I got discouraged (for the same reason I always get discouraged when writing fic for a fandom that’s been around since the dawn of time), because the Star Wars fandom is so big and there are so many amazingly talented writers in it that this AU has probably already been written, and probably written better than I could ever write it.

So, I never even posted it.

Until now...

(Oh! Also, it was gonna be a Luke/Mara ship. All my Star Wars fics are Luke/Mara.)

Like, I need y’all to understand. I had more or less already given up on the New Jedi Order by the time I read this book. I literally only started this one solely because it's when Ben Skywalker is born.

I was reading it in the living room and crying my eyes out because I was so happy. Finally, something good happened in this shit-show of an arc and I had too many emotions tumbling around inside me, they all came leaking out as tears in my eyes and wretched wet sobs from my mouth.

My father was still living with us at the time (this was before the divorce) and he came out to see what was wrong. Was I hurt? Had something happened?

He sees me sitting on the couch absolutely bawling into this book and is very confused. He asked what was wrong and I look up at him, face a vivid red, glasses foggy, wet tears streaming down my face and I barely manage to choke out,

"No, finally, everything going to be okay."
