okay i know transboy pidge is a thing some people considered but

transgirl pidge requires zero change to the dialogue or pidge’s explicit alignment with female in episode 6, just supportive parents (so the younger appearance is partially hormone blockers, long hair and dresses and stuff for presentation) and being forced to endure the dysphoria of displaying as male for an extended period of time in order to obtain information about her father and brother.

PSA

  • It’s trans, not trans*
  • It’s trans men and trans women, not transmen and transwomen—trans is an adjective that answers “what kind of men/women"—cis works the same way
  • Never call trans men FTMs or trans women MTFs without their permission
  • Trans is short for transgender, it’s not plural for anything—trans person and trans people are both correct
  • Never use “born in the wrong body” or “used to be a boy and became a girl” or “biologically/genetically male/female”—all are just fancy ways to misgender someone (self identification with these phrases is different)
  • Transgendered is wrong, so is “a transgender” and “transgenders”
  • Being trans is not a sexuality nor is it a “sexual disorder” or any kind of disorder at all—gender identity disorder is not a real thing, and being trans isn’t a medical condition
  • “Transsexual” is generally considered an offensive term and should never be used to describe someone without their permission
  • Don’t refer to a trans person’s gender as their gender identity, it’s just their gender
  • Similarly don’t refer to their pronouns as “preferred pronouns"—they’re not preferred, they’re mandatory

why genderbends are transphobic: a tl;dr version

  • they assume every character is cis by default
  • 99.9% of the time nonbinary identities are ignored and the only two genders used are male and female
  • they imply that in order for someone to be a certain gender, their body has to change to fit it (i.e., a character can’t go from male to female without having wider hips and breasts)
  • they imply physical characteristics = gender
  • all of the above are examples of cissexism, which perpetuates the marginalization and erasure of trans people
  • stop arguing with trans people about whether genderbends are transphobic or not, especially if you’re cis
  • the end

A lot of transguys or masculine people aren’t comfortable with wearing a bikini top, so they get stuck wearing shirts in the summertime, or settling for something that doesn’t make them feel confident.

The Rhodes siblings are currently fundraising for the Bareskin Top, which comes in four skin-tone options, on Kickstarter

But actually boosting this because they have until December 19th to raise another $13,000 or they don’t get any of the money.

hey trans friends

if you need binders/breast forms/makeup/etc but don’t want your parents to know, now is the best time to get it.

you can order whatever it is online and when the package comes in if the ask what it is you can say something like “it’s a secret!” or even just sssh them. they’ll assume it’s a present for whatever holiday you celebrate and probably won’t press the issue.

oh my god this is amazing

Meet the Women of Stonewall

Since the trailer of the atrocious Stonewall movie was released, people are rightfully upset that it white-washes and erases the trans women and lesbian who started the Stonewall Riots. Posts are going around reminding us of these women, but usually only mentioned one or two, which I find a little a-historical. We should know who all these women are as they each played a significant role in what happened in June of 1969.

Stormé DeLarverie (December 24, 1920 – May 24, 2014)

Stormé was a biracial butch lesbian, drag king and considered the “Rosa Parks of the Gay Community”. When the police raided the Stonewall Inn, she was one of the women arrested and clubbed on the head by the police. She is credited with yelling  “Why don’t you guys do something?” which sparked the bystanders into action. (x) In her own words:

”[The officer] then yelled, ‘I said, move along, faggot.’ I think he thought I was a boy. When I refused, he raised his nightstick and clubbed me in the face.” It was then that the crowd surged and started attacking the police with whatever they could find, she said.
I asked my last question hesitantly. “Have you heard of the Stonewall Lesbian? The woman who was clubbed outside the bar but was never identified?” DeLarverie nodded, rubbing her chin in the place where she received 14 stitches after the beating. “Yes,” she said quietly. “They were talking about me.”
And then, almost as an afterthought, I asked, “Why did you never come forward to take credit for what you did?”
She thought for a couple of seconds before she answered, “Because it was never anybody’s business.” Stormé DeLarverie(source)

Marsha P. Johnson (June 27, 1944 – July 6, 1992)

Marsha “Pay it No Mind” Johnson was a black trans woman, drag queen and LGBT activist. She, along with Sylvia Rivera, co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) and is credited as being the first to fight back at Stonewall Inn. (x) Happy Birthday, Marsha! is a film project in the works to honor life, please consider donating.

“This was started by the street queens of that era, which I was part of, Marsha P. Johnson, and many others that are not here" Sylvia Rivera (Source)

Sylvia Rae Rivera (July 2, 1951 – February 19, 2002)

Sylvia was a Latina trans woman, drag queen and LGBT activist. As mentioned above she co-founded STAR with Marsha P Johnson, as well as a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activists Alliance. She is also credited with being one of the first women to throw a bottle at the police.

“You’ve been treating us like shit all these years? Uh-uh. Now it’s our turn!… It was one of the greatest moments in my life. “ Sylvia Rivera (Source)

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy (October 1940)

Also known as Miss Major, is a black trans woman and community leader for transgender rights with a focus on women of color. Miss Major was a leader in the riots who was struck by police and arrested. While in custody an officer broke her jaw. (x) A documentary called Major! is in the works to portray Miss Major’s role in the transgender activist community. (x) (I hope people watch this instead of Stonewall).

Many more people were involved in the riots, but one thing is clear, it was not started by cis white men, it was by these 4 women of color. Don’t let men take away our history.

dont let WHITE MEN  specifically steal the history.

Friendly reminder that Elle Fanning (the actress playing Ray in About Ray) is actually very well-informed and respectful when speaking about trans people! She interviewed and spoke with countless trans people to make sure that she would be playing the part right, and calls Ray by his correct male pronouns, unlike the director.

Please, be angry at the director and not at Elle! She is doing her best. The director, on the other hand, is grossly misinformed and disrespectful.

Here’s the official trailer.

I hope this makes you excited for the full series (six 10-minute episodes), which is due to begin airing in October, online for free.

We’re still fundraising to finish post-production. Give if you can, and help us spread the word. Every view is an endorsement and a signal to potential platforms that there is a demand for queer & trans content.

Thanks!

By the way, not only is Her Story about trans women, and stars two trans women, it was also co-written by one, and directed by another.

And this trailer was edited by yet another trans woman (the amazing Mari Walker), AND the music (”Got Monsters”) is by Mina Caputo, also a trans woman.

See what we can do when given the chance? :)

I am Chinese and demisexual/demiromantic. Since I was young I’ve always been exposed to this idea that I was the “wrong kind of Asian” in terms of appearance because I wasn’t a hypersexualized, perfect thin, tall, pale Asian doll. I was awkward, I had a lot of acne, I didn’t have a good fashion sense, and was constantly afraid of other people thinking I was “too fobby” and undesirable (mostly because of all the microaggressions I got from peers). Part of the way I dealt with this fear was having a lot of casual sex in high school. People thought I was naive and didn’t like sex because of my repressive Asian culture so I wanted to prove them wrong. I hated it every time. I didn’t understand why I didn’t enjoy it. I felt like a failure because I couldn’t be a cool, confident, sexual, and desirable Asian woman, the only kind I knew that got respect, and if not respect then they got attention (I am trans but identified as a girl back then). I felt used. I felt guilty because I was using others. This led to a lot of bad situations where I experienced sexual assault, because I didn’t know I was allowed to say no. I couldn’t bring myself to say no and fail trying to be this person I desperately wanted to be. Being on the ace/aro spectrum has influenced my trans identity as well. When much of the LGBT+ community proves itself by saying “we love/fuck just like you, cis straights! Probably even better!” It can leave you very alone and inferior if you don’t feel sexual and/or romantic attraction. I’ve also had a lot of sex trying to prove my identity as a queer woman before I accepted I was trans (which was around the same time I realized I am ace aro). At this point in my life though, I’ve accepted that I am Chinese, trans, ace, and aro. I’m learning how to fulfill my emotional needs without sex or romance. I’m reconnecting with my Chinese heritage and working on deconstructing my internalized racism. Something that’s helped me a lot is talking to other ace aro poc on tumblr and finally finding a community who understands me. I’m really glad this day is a thing!
