On the plus side, we've been latching successfully every time since 4am! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 On the other side, we've been nursing 5 minutes and then passing out, then nursing again 20 minutes later 😭😭😭
Not even an hour into my shift, and I already have a patient trying to leave AMA. Oh, and it's also the first of July, so there is a fresh batch of brand new baby residents, first day on the job. Sweet mother of god, it's going to be an interesting day.
I met a patient today with Gestational Trophoblastic Disease. Basically, the pregnancy became a molar pregnancy, which developed into a tumor. The treatment (in some cases) is having to go through chemo to resolve the growth before it metastasizes to anywhere else in the body. I was absolutely horrified when I read the H&P, and almost asked for a change of assignment. I guess it's just because she would have been about as far along as me, it really hit me hard. Now I really, REALLY cannot wait for our next appointment and hear the heartbeat. It really makes you count your blessings, you know? I just couldn't believe that something so rare that I've never seen before, NOW I run into it, right a this point in my life. Like, what are the chances? :(
