The next day was your day off and Mallahir took you out to the gardens where you discussed the difference between Quenya and Sindarin that gave you a hard time. “It is just so confusing sometimes. I cannot remember if it was Quenya or Sindarin and it’s driving me mad” you complained. “You are very good at speaking Sinadarin already and I am sure that with a little more time and practice you’ll perfect it. With Quneya I am afraid I won‘t be helpful. I have never learned more than a few simple phrases.” Mallahir encouraged you. Debating his words you answered “Well thank you. I guess you are right. I still do not fully understand Quenya though. It is an interesting subject and seeing you don‘t know much about it I guess I‘ll need to find someone who knows Quenya to ask my questions to.“ You mused.
A silence fell over you and you remembered yesterday's events. Walking through the beautiful gardens was refreshing. The pretty flowers shone in the sunlight and had a glow that reminded you of the flowery fields outside of your hometown. The path led to a part of the gardens where many tall trees grew. The sunlight barely made it through the leaves of the great trees and you still pondered if you should ask Mal or better leave it for another time. You made up your mind and looked at your friend ready to ask him about whatever had been going on. He’d been walking on casually and you thought now might be as good as any other time. “Mal yesterday when you..” Suddenly Mallahirs posture changed to a very stiff and straight line and you turned your face to whatever he was looking at.
When you looked ahead you could see the High King coming your direction. Your eyes widened and you were a bit lost on what to do. Everything you had learned about elvish cultures and standards was out the window. You had never seen him from up close and you did not know how to act or behave around him. Did you have to bow or get on your knees? You internally panicked and just watched and mimicked Mallahir in a desperate attempt to not misbehave and possibly offend the High King.
“Good evening High King.” He said bowing his head slightly and you just pursed your lips, not knowing if you should say anything. You decided to keep quiet. The King was a tall, confident and tactful character. His stern face made him appear even stricter but there was something else in his eyes. Something melancholic maybe. He had something about him, that made you anxious and you felt your ears getting hot. ‚Get it together Y/N‘
“Good evening Mallahir.” The High King responded quietly.
His voice. You had never heard his voice before. Well you had but not like this. Not so calm and close. He had a deep voice, something very soothing to it and you’d liked to hear it more often. He wore a golden dress just like the trees, something in which you had seen him in many times now. Of course he had never seen you before. When his eyes met yours you froze.
“And good evening to your young friend. I have never seen you before.” His dark eyes bore into yours and you felt like drowning in them. He had an intensity in his eyes that made you gulp and try to actively focus on anything else. You thanked the Valar that Mallahir proved to be your knight in shining armor once again. He moved beside you touching your shoulder introducing you to the High King. “This is my friend Y/N. She is a human, here to study elvish culture.”
When you turned your face to the High Kings you saw to your own Horror that he had not taken his eyes off of you and was still looking at you with his intense pretty eyes. ‚Did you just think of his pretty eyes? Did you just think pretty?‘ “Ah yes you are one of the few low humans that Erestor had requested to be allowed to study here, yes?” This time you had to force out a word “Yes that is true.” You gulped again. He seemed to understand that he must have interrupted you or he had seen how uncomfortable you felt and decided to have mercy on you, which was something you dearly hoped was not the case.. “Very well I’ll leave you to your walk then. Enjoy your time in Lindon Y/N.“ The way he let your name roll off his tongue made you blush slightly. You quickly looked down letting the loose strands of your hair cover your red cheeks a little. „Mallahir I‘ll see you tomorrow.” He walked past you to the gardens and you continued your walk through the trees.
To be honest you were pretty shocked still and needed to recover from that. It was only a few weeks here and you already met the High King. Elves were breathtakingly stunning in appearance and posture in general. The way they carried themselves made them appear powerful but no one you had ever met would even get close to this elf. His aura alone was probably powerful enough to have his enemies on his knees without even any need for a fight. You would love to see him in battle. He would probably defeat anyone in his way in the most elegant way you could imagine.
Only after a while did you realize he just called you a low human? Whatever a low human was, you were a little mad he had spoken like that about, you in front of you. It all got lost in the situation and you were sure if anyone else had spoken about you like that you‘d have told them off. What a weird situation. You were sure you had never been in such a confusing scenario especially not here. If you had not been so out of it you would have remarked on his blunt and harsh words but he was the High King so there was not much you could have said right?. The look he shot you made you think you saw something like judgment in his eyes when he fixed you with his gaze while saying he had never seen you before and suddenly you were not so sure that your visits up the hill had been unnoticed afterall. After that your plan to ask Mallahir about the Meeting had been pushed out of your mind and had been replaced by the High King's deep dark eyes. The rest of your evening walk with Mallahir you could barely concentrate and after the second time he asked if you even listened to him you’d apologized and told him you needed to rest. “Of course you need to sleep again. You humans sleep so much I should not be surprised.” he laughed but you only half heartedly joined in and said your goodbye after that. You took the fastest way home but in fact you took about 20 minutes longer than usual due to your slow pace. Your mind was wandering much faster than your feet, still drawn to the High Kings wonderful dark eyes. Uh Again wonderful? Get it together Y/N! Get your shit together!
