A rainbow of little guys
So I had a thought- David being like those old ladies that feed pigeons in the park except with the local flock of tiny dragons
“It’s a bird feeder, not a dragon feeder!!!”
Animal dragons part 4: arctic fox, raccoon, and possum (going AHHHHHHH)
Animal dragons part 3: coqui and whip scorpion
Animal dragons pt 2: seal and aye-aye
First of some weird dragons, fennec fox, rabbit, and kiwi.
I don't know if it'll bother but, may I ask : do you have tips on how to draw/design dragons ? Yours are always so magnificient ! And it always makes me want to try ^^ 🌸
No bother at all, and thank you so much! I’m not great at detailing my thought process or tips but I sketched up a few things. Basically my first tip would be to go wild with whatever you want, you do pretty much anything with dragons and that may sound like a cop out but really!!
Here’s a few directions you can go in if you want to focus on particular traits, you can go all out on horns, or make them really spiny and thorny, or with a mane and other little fur details. And of course you can mix and match all this stuff or you can keep kind of a theme. If you’re doing horns or spines it helps bring it together to continue down the back and some on the tail as well. If you’re doing a mane, again, down the back and some tufts of fur on ears, around the jaw or face, on the end of the tail, and on the backs of elbows and ankles.
Head shapes are a big way you can give them character. The above is my go-to, standard reptilian looking but not too fierce. But you can do anything, you can make them really reptilian, or you can go more mammal looking, and anything in between really. You can make them really pointed and sharp looking or more boxy. And any of these can go from cute to fierce depending on what direction you go.
A favorite way of mine to add charcter and details is with scales and rough bits and mouth detail. A long time ago I picked up a trick somewhere, don’t stress yourself going all out with drawing in scales. A few discernable patches across the body really helps without you having to draw every scale. They can be grouped together, or scattered, or interrupted with bigger plates like armor, and again you can mix and match all of this. It really helps add character on the face too, along with ridges of bumps or spikes.
Also I forgot to sketch some but horns really add personality too. Curly like rams horns, long, straight, curvy, sharp twists, short, spindly, and antlers are all cool.
And a lot of choosing these details is what kind of feel you want to give. Want fierce and dangerous? Boxy head, short neck, sturdy body, and big plate like scales/horns could be a good combo. Want more sleek and fluid? Long body, slim or pointed head, fur or feathers, and long flowing tail. Wings can be traditional leathery or covered in feathers, or you can do no wings at all.
This is getting long and that’s what I’ve got off the top of my head, so I hope that helps any! If you have other questions feel free and I’ll do my best!
