i think enjoying characters like elliot schafer and baz pitch growing up has given me some false expectations as to what it’s really like to be awful and mean as a defence mechanism. i too am sometimes standing there wondering why the hell i’m saying something so terrible to someone i love but not being able to stop. the difference is in real life there is no earnest, angry, golden-child blond to love you anyway. good for the two of them though i’m glad it worked out.

i think its a shame that luke sunborn grew up without technology and didn’t have a landline in the house because his ass would lie on his stomach on his bed and twirl that cord around his finger for all he’s worth. giggling into the receiver like an idiot and kicking his feet when the guy on the other end is calling him a loser. sigh. the thing that is elliot isn’t even wrong

there should be more fic about serene and luke girl best friends. they are soooo stupid and lovesick together. they talk endlessly about wooing and never do it. give them a break from their pick-up master boy best friend. we can’t all be so unintentionally good at flirting.

the fact that luke should, logically, be crazy popular, as the sunborn champion, (second) best warrior cadet in the border camp (i’m rightfully counting him after serene), etc, but he isn’t, is so funny to me. he had everything going for him but on the first day of camp he grabbed the out of touch elf girl and the short, angry, obnoxious redhead with the weird clothes and said “they’re mine now,” and thus began his reputation as the intense gay kid. how luke sunborn became part of the weirdo table i will never know.

(likewise, how did elliot have so much game?? they really turned the popular kid/nerd trope on its head and i love them for that thank you srb)

i have to say the best thing to come out of twtbd is piper. elliot's unhinged foster daughter/protege? i have no idea if that was the vibe i was supposed to be getting but sign me up. she's so cool. can't wait for her to incite chaos and revolution tbh

sometimes it depresses me that elliot was luke’s first choice but luke wasn’t elliot’s, but then i remember it was what each of them needed

elliot like. tenderly and gently helping luke with an injury while also lecturing him angrily nonstop about the dangers of his irrational violent tendencies

sometimes i think about how luke’s wings are simultaneously an incredible insight into his character, emotions and upbringing, and also an ongoing dick joke

i think when i tell people about in other lands and i tell them elliot’s mean, they really underestimate him no matter how much i emphasise it. elliot is an actual asshole. it’s fantastic.
