There are plenty of sad good-byes in Middle-earth. But, this is in my top 3.
According to the artist’s vision, this is a scene showing Elrond saying good-bye to his brother in a dream on the day that his brother died his mortal death and passed from Middle-earth in S.A. 442.
Maglor, to Elrond and Elros, at some point probably (via incorrecttolkienquotes)
Hahahaha!
Maglor was a very supportive father. He wasn’t perfect (being a kinslayer and all), but he wasn’t bad, as far as dads go.

Some kids . . .
*swoop* And apparently, any kids will do! We found these ones in a cave.
(’The Hostages’ by Cathrine Karina Chmiel)
“For Maglor took pity upon Elros and Elrond, and he cherished them, and love grew after between them, as little might be thought; but Maglor’s heart was sick and weary with the burden of the dreadful oath.”(The Silmarillion, “Of Eärendil and the War of Wrath”) Watercolour and gouache on Canson Montval cold-pressed paper, A3 size. This is beautiful. I love it. It’s practically Teleri in content with Maglor teaching the young boys about a seashell. ^_^ Of course, those boys are part-Sindar.
Artist Note: Elros and Elrond were taken captive.
The weary sorrow on the face Elros and the determination in Elrond’s eyes are so telling. Maedhros looks away from the boy he holds with a sharp glance, and Maglor looks with regret and tenderness towards the child he holds.
In time, love grew between Maglor and the twins, and they were well cared for. However, that does not mean the love came quickly or easily. They were captured in the third kinslaying.
