Stay away, stupid! She warned. Her fierce eyes brimmed with unshed tears and shining protection, all for his bastard half-brother.
Something tight coiled in his chest at the sight of her protective hovering over the unconscious hanyō’s body, like a threatened cobra readying to spring itself to launch its attack. It was enough to stop his approach.
Inuyasha. The one who had everything and nothing all at once.
He had their father’s love, their father’s sword, and now…
He had the miko’s affection.
He realized the last bit of information did not sit well, for reasons unbeknownst to him.
Though calm in appearance, he reeled on the inside as he offered her an olive branch—a peace offering to not completely sully his image in her eyes any further. He bestowed her his wisdom, on how to protect Inuyasha from losing himself to his demon blood. The thought and action perplexed and annoyed him, but he trudged on, nonetheless.
As he turned to walk away from him, from them, he is nearly overwhelmed by the compelling need to erase the scene from his memory.
But one question continually burned and nagged at him, quieting all the others, soiling his mood further.
How did the hanyō befall such fortune?
