Shai and Theo have such an intense relationship on screen and they’re such close friends in real life. There’s just always an unspoken language between them as well, whatever they’re saying. Whenever they didn’t like some story point, they would always come in together and lobby as a team. As the stories on screen progressed, so did their lives. So, their lives were becoming more complicated, they were becoming more evolved, as their characters on screen also became more empowered. So they brought that to their performances. And also their familiarity with each other as actors was also appropriate to their familiarity with each other as characters. So that’s all on screen. And luckily, what you see on screen, which is a real chemistry between all of them, was very much true off screen. Probably the one exception being that everyone loves Miles as opposed to the way they barely tolerate him on screen. —“Allegiant” Audio Commentary with Producers Lucy Fisher and Douglas Wick
