My fellow Missourians, I CAN CONFIRM: you can go to an early voting satellite and cast your ballot right now with absolutely no questions asked. Source: I just did it 👍

If you, like me, want to alleviate a modicum of anxiety by Doing Your Part early (even if you're in town and able to do it on the proper day!), this was super easy and I highly recommend it.

As long as you are registered to vote, simply present your ID. I can also confirm that you can use just a driver's license (even if it still has an old, hours-away address on it bc it hasn't yet expired and you can't be assed to go change it until you absolutely have to).

I usually prefer a paper ballot, but at my early voting satellite, the only option was electronic. The voting program was very easy to use, very easy to double-check and backtrack on, not janky at all, and featured multiple accessibility features.

Additionally, I confirmed that you CAN use your phone to research all those local judges that weren't on Ballotpedia any candidates or issues you need more information on!

Go forth and vote in confidence! If your worst neighbor or crustiest bigoted problem customer can shamble out to vote against you, then you can haul ass to the polls to spite them and improve society somewhat whether they like it or not.

goyim, these are days to avoid scheduling important events, meetings, etc:

Rosh Hashanah - evening of Wednesday, October 2nd - evening of Thursday, October 3rd (& some Jews will continue observing for an additional day, through the evening of Friday, October 4th)

Yom Kippur - evening of Friday, October 11th - evening of Saturday, October 12th

Jews, you do you and obviously your safety is paramount, but I really strongly recommend TAKING THESE DAYS OFF WORK even if you don't consider yourself particularly observant, even if you won't be spending the day in synagogue, even if you aren't fasting. Most Christians* don't go to work on Christmas even if they aren't going to church that day and are just having a secular celebration at home with family. Holidays mean different things to different people, but especially if your workplace has a policy supporting religious holiday observance, USE YOUR DAYS without guilt. Know that it actually makes it EASIER for other Jews when you do so, because it helps to prevent the whole conversation with a boss of "well that guy is Jewish and he said he doesn't need the day off because he's just going to go to evening services."

yes it sucks SO hard if you are in a type of job where you are put in a position where you are forced to use PTO or just lose pay for something that people of other religions get for free -- i'm more speaking to people who work in offices or similar type of jobs* where they may have holiday time off as a DEI initiative but feel guilty using it because i have been there!!!!! last year i was the only jew at my workplace who took off for yom kippur even though it was paid because the other jews said they didn't feel jewish enough to do it and they had a meeting that day!!!!!!

*obviously if you are an ER surgeon or something like that, YMMV here

In case anyone reading my blog is unaware, this is a reference to the Green Day song titled “Wake Me Up When September Ends” a song that Billie Joe Armstrong wrote following the death of his father in September of 1982 when Billie Joe was ten years old. The title of the song references his desire to sleep through September in an effort to get some emotional distance from the death of his father.

He’s since been open about the emotional difficulty of having written the song since many people now message him on October 1st to ‘wake him up’ despite the song being a memorial to his departed father.

It’s generally seen as respectful to not try to wake him up. Let him sleep and let him remember his father in peace.

ive said it before but as a tool and a 'place', i really love the internet, genuinely. i dont like the resignation that it has to be, and stay, a place thats full of misery and fighting. ive met a lot of really wonderful people here, and i think we could all have a nice time together if everyone did their part to make it so that was possible. im not speaking down to you as someone whos never made these mistakes, im asking as someone whos also made them alongside you.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio has removed 155,000 inactive and out-of-date voter registrations from the state’s voter rolls ahead of the November election, the state elections chief announced Friday.

Ohio Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose said inactive voters and non-U.S. citizens were among those removed. He had directed county election directors in May to hunt through the voter rolls in an effort he says is legally mandated to remove inactive registrations.
