Edspear's Artblog

@edspear

29 M:He/Him Illustrator, Magic Player, RPG dingus, and Dabbling Animator and a few other things here and there. This blog is pretty SFW all 'round; though the occasional exception may exist. I'm currently working on a webcomic called Colony Corps.

Today's Trinket Theme is

Candy & Toys

The mint wars are over, commemorated with a hastily mashed together mint taffy treat by Decima. Now to her immense displeasure, it tastes horrible. But unity is worth the pain. Just barely.

Butterfly Polypop was a fun and useful treatlet that was used to scout out and investigate Scabetha's horrid factory.

Cieling Candy was a goofy idea the GM ran with after an offhand mention.

Toothybaby, used for scamming the toothfairy, essentially a beanie baby full of teeth, that could be traded for a ton of dosh all at once. If you're lucky.

Eugene is Decima's terrible dog. Only natural for the little guy to have a ball to play fetch with.

Lily the Harengon helped create/contain the Phyrexian Ant Farm after a brief injury threatened to ruin the local ecosystem... Another taste of "Oh people think Decima is dangerous. And perhaps they are right."

Trinkets of the Furnace

Another grouping of trinkets from the Witchlight campaign.

Furnace Dollbomb, has been hanging around for a while, just waiting to use her on something worthwhile.

Decima has finally regained her moral compass, and rather than it being the solution to her uncertainty, she now knows how bad of a phyrexian she's being when she doesn't compleat people and cull the weak. She also knows she doesn't feel too bad about being bad at being a phyrexian.... That feels worse.

The compass was found within the Obsidian Steed, a phyrexianized nightmare warhorse that was no help in a fight with a lady named Fistiana, at least until Decima got really mad at it/Urabrask/Argyle and took that anger out on the aforementioned Fistiana.

The Twicewrit Missive has been something Decima has had in her back pocket for a while... She's worried about sending it. And what sort of answer it will bring, with "No response" being her worst case scenario.

This time on

"Ed's Trinket Doodles"!

Weapons! Weapons? What are they? Implements with which one does violence for myriad reasons. Some of these are real, some of these are hypothetical, some were just fun.

Licorice Whip- The weapon to completely down Decima in combat, and frequently hold her in place. I guess technically it was some form improvised explosive delicacy and some very sharp claws that did it, but being tied up and unable to move didn't help. Hope this doesn't awaken anything in her.

Sopskit- What if Decima takes that one step further and compleats the Rainbow Blade? What then? Something I'm eager to try out and see flies with my GM.

Glimmerhilt- Decima passed on Argyle's Ol' Battleaxe to Syr Wigglewog of Downfall, who put it to good use chopping King Gullup the XXIVth's entire body off. I like to imagine it's been prettied up in the time since.

Penne &Celletanius- Weapons of big lady Angelhair the Pure. A sword of justice, and a really cool fork spear. Tried to wrap in some halo-aura on both items.

Cliveycluf- With how fairy-tale the whole adventure's been one has wondered if we'd get a sword from a lady in a body of water, or stumble upon one in a rock. If you were unworthy, it'd make more of a mace than a sword if you couldn't pull it out of the stone.

Have a ton of Decimas in various styles and poses. Based off of a little character challenge meme type thing I saw posted by @littjara-compleated-sage one time. No idea if I have the source still. Though for posterity a list with explanations:

  1. Genderbent - Decimir? Decimo? Perhaps just Decim?
  2. New Clothes - A lovely sari acquired from a brief stay in Ravenloft.
  3. With a Pet - Look! It's Eugene! Hi Eugene.
  4. As a Baby/Child - There's two ways to look at it; either just "repurposed" after a LONG time inactive and despondant, or as a weird little jellybean monster germ thing. The latter has more drawings of it somewhere.
  5. Winter Clothes - It was chilly at the time, she has a lovely hat pin.
  6. In Pajamas - Or as I prefer to say, Jammies Mode.
  7. With Another OC - This I struggled with, one of mine or one of someone else's? Went with L'rix. Who is probably very dead or very depressed.
  8. Wounded - Is what it says on the tin, had the line art for a long while, finally colored it. More peeved than anything.
  9. Cosplay - Cosplaying as another famous Phyrexian Sleeper Agent.
  10. In a Suit - Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.
  11. With the Gang - The other party members. A very quick doodle cause i was wanting to get it done.
  12. Underwater - Nevermind how she got there, this was a lot of fun to figure out.
  13. With a Weapon - There's plenty of doodles of Decima with weapons. Just did a quick one for this.
  14. Favorite Food - Peirogis, Pierogis? Pirogis? However it is spelt.

Meant to post this yonks ago!

A few more witchlight trinkets in that Souls-inspired style from Decima's adventures in the feywild.

Current goings on, solved a pop up book murder mystery and consequently did some time travel. Weird.

Pretending to be an "Emissary from Jin" whomever that is.

Decima is good at the Hurdy Gurdy.

Used rage to churn butter.

There are a few more but I'm spacing them out while I settle into new job, and deal with the aforementioned trinket file being corrupted. If I can manage to fix it I'll make even more. Though i worry I'll have to either stop or remake/cobble together a template if I can't fix it.

Once upon a time there was a newt, alone and bereft of purpose; born with a hole in the heart nothing could fill. The cries of the creature were answered by a fairy godmother.

The loathesome thing made a wish. To be allowed to fulfill its purpose and find its people. And with a wave of a wand, the newt wore a new form, and with a tap of her toes she was whisked away to the kingdom of Argive.

All the fairy godmother took in exchange was a small token, a trinket really. A compass drawn from out behind her freshly sculpted ear.

Oh but what an important compass it was indeed, without it the newt-turned-girl found she couldn't tell right from wrong; or at the very least her right and her wrong. She was given a name, and plied a variety of professions; But be it attendant , baker or butcher, cantor or clothesmaid, dentist or doctor, farmhand, fishmonger, or fool, not one served her purpose. Without a Moral Compass, all she could do was try to fit in, do as others did, and do what she was told. She learned to keep certain parts of herself secret, though again for what reason she wasn't sure. And she got herself a name.

She would in time travel out towards Urborg to seek the Father's Tomb. Far from what could broadly be called home she ran into someone with an offer. Attend a carnival and help others find their lost things, and in turn get help finding her lost thing in return.

And so Decima sets out with a group of other travelers into the Wild Beyond the Witchlight.

My character for a D&D game I'm in. A Phyrexian Shifter Barbarian, named Decima Aligheiri. Even made a miniature for her as well, some more 3D Modeling and Printing practice. . A real sweetheart that could really wreck shop with some stupendous strength and nightmarish hidden gadgets. The way I've sold her to the GM was basically "Cronenberg Disney Princess". So the singing to the tweeteling birds only for them to turn all biomechanical. Initially thought going Bard, but there were a ton of casters. But maybe later with multiclassing.

Only time will tell.

Tossed in still versions of the image as well. For Clarity
