Edspear's Artblog

@edspear

29 M:He/Him Illustrator, Magic Player, RPG dingus, and Dabbling Animator and a few other things here and there. This blog is pretty SFW all 'round; though the occasional exception may exist. I'm currently working on a webcomic called Colony Corps.

Working on this between animation work to warm back up again.

Current RPG Character for a game of Edge of The Empire.

“Dr.” Pascal VanVega, Imperial Pacifist and Surgery Enthusiast, a Cybernetic Medic. He’s also chopped off his own head. Why? Maybe as part of an ongoing thesis project to “Disprove the Soul”, under the assumption if he replaces enough of his brain with cybernetics, he’ll eventually be technically dead, and should souls exist, he’ll run over and tell himself that. Or maybe he just felt like it, and is way handsomer this way anyways. He ain’t picky.

Meet Demonic Management. The party’s characters in a tabletop group I joined some time ago. Worked on these just for a fun gift/present.

I guess these are more their true selves, rather than how they actually appear, since having a weird ghostly demonic celestial form separate from the corporeal vessel is a thing. So in a somewhat particular order.

Nehemia/Bartholomew Alvarez- Habalite of The Game, Servitor of Asmodeus. Psychiatrist by day, terrible person who ruins peoples lives and toys with their emotions also by day. Kind of creepy all the time honestly. Thinks he’s an angel, and doing God’s work, punishing the weak.

Elior/Armin Morgenstern- Balseraph of Fate, Servitor of Kronos. Attorney at Law, Agent of Fate, and sort of de-facto leader. With the power to tell undetectable lies (by way of actually convincing himself its the truth), and reading emotions (but not being able to act on them).

Appolyon/Polly- Calabite of The War, Servitor of Baal. A blind, degenerate, warmachine, that’s stumbled into the possession of some kind of holy (read angelic) artifact sword thing, that draws tons of divine attention. Which is bad. We’re demons. We don’t want that.

???/Ruby- Lilim of Gluttony, Servitor of Haagenti. Trendsetting celebrity, and beauty personality. Gives terrible tips and tricks, like greasy chicken facemasks, to further the word of Gluttony. That said the Demon Prince of Media, is aiming to recruit the up and coming star.

???/Charlie- Lilim of Factions, Servitor of Malphas. Philandering talent agent, formerly worked for Andrealphus, they specialize in making people argue. Making deals and breaking freindships feeds their word, but being a weirdo who plays people against eachother, isn’t often a great way to win friends, even if it is literally their job. Not great friends with Bart.

Dimmu-Borgir/Carl- Djinn of Secrets, Servitor of Alaemon. You’ve probably seen his meatspace form around. A secretive dork, who works to keep a comfy lifestyle intact with minimal effort. His weird demonic form is that of a spooky goat. Which given their proclivity to just eat whatever, makes them great for secret disposal. Has the power to know where someone he’s attuned himself is, wherever they are, with total accuracy. Same goes for their deepest most personal secrets (if they’re human).

So this was a sketch request I struggled with for a while, not because of any kind of mean feat or whatever, but more because life and stuff was getting in the way, and also like, getting anxious.

Behold the Fishergirl (pictured using some kind of cool communicator pin or whatever), latest in a long line of Fishermen legacy of superheroes. (Likely not the first Fishergirl or Fisherwoman either but probably the first to be actually part fish person, I wouldn’t know).

Used a stock photo (I’ve double checked) for the ocean because sorting out waves proved to be a little difficult at the time and I was taking a lot of time already.

Additionally quick experiment with the Illustrator 3D filter.

I find it weird it doesn’t have like bevel and emboss which would’ve been nice for the enamel effect.

Recent event in tabletop game.

Fourteen showed off her morbid chops at a science fair. No magic, just copious animal cadavers, a model train kit, and only light sabotage. A small world ride demonstrating the wonders of the nervous system.

Adoptive Demon Daddy Carl (my char) was very proud. The science teachers were impressed and horrified. The vice principal just horrified. And one of the other kids parents, was utterly utterly jealous.

All in all, a good day.

Oh Carver, as much as I like the gifs, I wish your thoughts moved a little faster.

Okay, you make a good point.  So does the guy screaming. Move sparingly and with precision! Jump into action only in the most dire of straits.

And the time to act is now!

Luckily you’ve got just the thing in your inventory to save the day!

You think…

You hope.

Ideally this will be the end of schedule slips for the time being coming up. Gonna do an art stream sometime to make up for the sparse updates.

Is there a 4th mysterybox option? :^)

Heading towards what you could affectionately call “Crash Site 2 Electric Boogaloo”, but you won’t because this is a serious situation for

serious

people with

serious

consequences. You contemplate if there are other options.

“There’s always another way,” like the sergeant used to say, “if you follow the Core Colony Corps Corporate Citizen Companion Guidebook of Correct Operating Procedure.”

There’s probably advice in that book for every conceivable situation in this inconceivable universe. Shame you don’t have it on you.

But as you’ve said to yourself earlier, it always pays to keep your options open and your feet moving when lives are on the line, and your feet have been moving for quite a long time. Doesn’t seem like the star is any closer to setting, and the trees blow gently in the breeze.

You feel like Christopher Columbus when he discovered ancient Ohio, or Buzz Aldrin taking the first step on the moon’s cratered albedo.  As you crest over the small hill you could swear you see something…

…But you hear something instead.

Sorry about the late update everyone. Between monitor problems that suddenly stopped being problems and some doctors visits, I had to get over to the DMV to get some bureaucratic stuff out of the way.

Either way here is the update, and its about to swing into higher gear now.

Check the console for information about your surroundings. Try to remember who you are and why you're here. What's the last memory you have?

Now, it’s still pretty fuzzy, but you definitely remember boarding this ship, a TB2-Pig One modular landing craft. If you had to guess either everyone else jumped ship on the approach. Something must’ve happened to take you out of commission before you could deploy with everyone else.

You seem to have a pretty good memory for equipment, which you don’t fault yourself for…

Spaceships, weapons, and computers are all pretty cool. For example, dropships like this often come with a detachable-

But of course! The ship’s main computer console! Man! Who would of thought that with less strobing red light and blaring klaxons, that you can think a lot clearer now.

You would’ve! That’s who.

The Hirudo (or Leechfolk)

(Art is not mine, artist posted it when I was discussing this race on /tg/ months back and refused to share their name and said they did not have a page where they posted their work. I would be very grateful if someone could point me to the artists page if they ended up making one)

A while back on /tg/ I was helping to create various collective homebrews with the other anons there. While nothing concrete came from it one of my biggest contributions was the Hirudo or Leechfolk. Resembling mundane leeches in much the same way Thri-Kreen or Formains resemble mantids and ants respectively. Considered one of the less popular aspects of the “Bugworld” setting I still have a soft-spot in my heart for them and knew they’d be better appreciated here. So I’ve written up what I remember and can track down of them as a common use race for D&D 5E but they can be adapted for any system really.

Feel free to use them for your games and characters as long as I, Justin Wiysel, am credited as their creator. I don’t plan to make any profit from these, just don’t want to see someone else profiting off my work that I want to be free for all to enjoy.

(This one is done by @edspear who did a lot of concept art for them and the Bugworld)

The Hirudo, or Leechfolk to most commoners, are a typically jovial and empathetic race who are becoming well-known as healers of great skill. Dwelling in swamps, along waterways, the coasts, and anywhere sufficiently wet they are still a relatively rare sight away from their villages and cities but more and more are hearing the call to adventure. Their unique skill-sets make them valued members of their groups, ranging from natural healers, skilled alchemists, and deceptively capable combatants.

I remember drawing so much for the original Leechfolk threads. I have to admit  my guys were more humanoid.

And Kind of stupid cute...

The old blood sausage nursing stuff.

Kind of cute stuff...

Silly reactions.

And the various wasters mages and etc.

I think this is one of the first doodles.

The Leech God.

and Leech priest.
