I just had the horrible thought that Stan will realise it's a ghost and then think it's the ghost of FORD trying to stop him, and Fiddleford would go along with it so Stan wouldn't reopen the portal (delaying portal repair). Stan would, of course, be in shambles about killing his brother who had reached out to him for help, and Fiddleford would feel bad and try and comfort Stan (say, he's communicating via paper and pencil or through the screens or smt).
They'd talk. They'd bond. Under the assumption that Fiddleford was Ford, Stan and his guilty conscious would apologise again and again. For the portal, for the perpetual motion machine, for always being a screwup. Maybe he'd talk about his life out on the road, just the fill the air.
But then Stanley would bring up something from their childhood to 'Ford' and Fiddleford wouldn't know the answer so Stan would realise with horror that this ISN'T Ford and he'd instead trapped his twin on the other side of this portal and instead of working to get it fixed he'd been VENTING TO A DEAD STRANGER. Conflict, arguments, the whole shabang.
Fiddleford, having bonded with Stanley more than before, might feel more sympathetic to his cause? More willing to try and get Ford back, if they make sure the thing is safe before they turn it on again?
