“Maybe once I figure out who I am, and you decide who you’re going to be…maybe we can try it again sometime”
The slow burn is annoying but I kinda love that they’ve stuck to this promise.
When Dick and Kory decide to go their separate ways it’s because neither of them are in a good place. Dick had already been struggling with his violent tendencies for a whole year prior, and then he decides to burn the Robin suit. Kory is trying to put the pieces of her life in order after getting amnesia.
Both of them are dealing with such heavy issues in their lives but at the same time they realize they’ve found something special in each other, all in the matter of days. So they decide to not totally cut off the possibility of something in the future.
After they defeat Trigon, it seems that Dick is in a better place so he invites Kory to come with him and the kids to San Francisco. She declines. Because she hasn’t really fulfilled her part of their agreement; she still doesn’t know who she is. For a few seconds, you can clearly see the disappointment on Dick’s face but it quickly changes to a smile because he understands. And he’s willing to give Kory the space and time she needs to figure it out, just as she gave him when he left to go see Donna.
Three months go by and they haven’t been in contact. Kory has all her memories back but that brings on a new set of challenges because she now has to make a choice; Earth or Tamaran. Dick has shed his violent ways, but still has to come up with a new identity and take care of 3 kids, all while dealing with his past. Still, they aren’t ready for each other yet. But even with them being emotionally unavailable it’s clear that the bond they formed is still there, and strong. Dick still looks at Kory the same way as when they first met and, Kory can still understand Dick even without words being exchanged.
Dick is now Nightwing, fulfilling his side of the promise. He knows who he wants to be and is in a better headspace (can’t wait to see him lighten up). Meanwhile, Kory is still struggling. She’s powerless, stranded, and grieving. The two have literally switched places from season 1. Kory’s s3 arc is the final hurdle Dick and Kory need to overcome to be ready for a true relationship.
I just find it really cute that they refuse to burden each other; instead they want to be able to give each other the best parts of themselves.
Just hope the writers don’t mess this up.
Another Titans season 3 idea:
Meeting Komand’r and learn Kory is a Princess. It’s a little long
Dick and Kory are in the training room and Dick just lost again and Gar comes running in with a tablet and says “they need to see this”. He hands the tablet over and on the screen is news coverage of the an alien language burned into multiple rooftops and sides of buildings; each symbol is the same. Dick thinks he has seen similar markings before, but Kory recognizes it immediately as the mark of the royal Tamaran family seal with a time and place to meet, knowing that it’s an invitation from Komand’r. Kory takes the tablet and starts to leave the room to her room, as she looks closer at the meeting time and place. She doesn’t hear the sounds of Dick and Gar questioning if she knows what the symbols mean, and where was she going. She closes and locks the door as she changes to go meet Kom; Dick and Gar banging on the door and asking what’s wrong draws the other titans attention and they tell them. As Kory comes out of her she is blocked by the team but she pushes through them letting them knows that the symbol it the Tamaraen royal family seal and that it’s an invitation she cannot refuse and has to go alone. The team ask about the monarchy, and her status on her planet to get such an invitation, she lies instead telling them how she was supposed to home after the defeat of Trigon. The other Titans are not happy about this but Dick agrees with Kory and lets her leave, they look at him as if he’s lost it but he plans on tracking/following Kory with the help of Krypto. Kory arrives at the meeting place, stop to take a breather and walks into the building that is lined with royal guards that bow as she passes them, with her head held high as she heads towards Komand’r. Kory stops just short of Kom, and Kom reminders her she should bow before the queen. Meanwhile the team gets to the building and are on the roof but missed the guards bowing to Kory as she passed; they think of plan that has Rose with Jericho Connor and Gar getting the attention of the guards to be able to hear what’s going on. Gar turns in a animal to get one their attention to draw them away, Connor garb the guard and Jericho body jumps and they give him an earpiece and send him back in. The titans then can hear the conversation, thankfully it’s in English, about how Kory has failed her in mission and to the people of Tamaran for not returning home. Rose wonders what the big deal that is that she didn’t return after her assignation her role isn’t that big, Dick Gar and Dawn shush her; having missed Korys reply while Rose was talking. Whatever Kory says Kom doesn’t like it and orders the guards to take Kory to the ship, they’re going home so Kory can be dealt with there. [there are now two options for how this could go. In both situations the reaction the team has to learning Kory is a princess is similar to the reactions of the 2003 teen titans]
