there are SO MANY similarities between The Empyrean Series and How To Train Your Dragon
***IRON FLAME SPOILERS AHEAD***
- Both Violet and Hiccup are seen as weaker because of their poor physical abilities and strength, even though they are BRILLIANT
- Both have one “dead” parent, and the other is the Chief/Commander of the place they call home
- Both Lilith and Stoick don’t realize how actually incredible their child is and are constantly disappointed in them because they don’t follow their steps (giving them both major mommy/daddy issues)
- Hiccup and Violent bond very powerful, deadly and legendary black dragons
- Violet sees herself in Andarna, which is why she decides to protect her and Hiccup sees himself in Toothless, which is why he sets him free
- Major characters who are thought to be dead (Valka and Brennan), happen to be very much alive and leading a rebellious life against what they were told was the truth their entire lives
- Hiccup becomes the first ever dragon rider in Berk and Violet is the first know human to bond two dragons
- Hiccup builds himsef a saddle to be able to ride Toothless and Xaden has one made for Violet so she can ride Tairn
- Toothless can summon lightning and camouflage himself, Violet can weild lightning and Andarna can camouflage herself.
- Both Stoick and Lilith sacrifice themselves trying to save their child in the middle of a battle
- Dragons in both worlds have a place where no humans are allowed and they also have an established leadership system
- Enemies to lovers story (kind of) where they become an unstoppable power couple who work amazing together in battle
- Astrid and Xaden (love interests) are both strong, top of their class and amazing fighters
- Character who rides a dragon looses his leg
- Both religious systems have multiple deities and characters use the exclamation “Gods!” a lot
Those are the ones I can think of right now but I’m sure there’s a lot more.

***Iron Flame SPOILERS****
I am so incredibly disappointed with what everyone is choosing to talk about with this book. Everyone is concentrating on what happens with Xaden but you know what to me was the absolute most gut wrenching storyline in the whole book? General Lilith Fucking Sorrengail.
From the moment we see her again in the beginning of the book she is nothing but supportive and proud of her daughter. Yes, she absolutely made the wrong decision where she stands in the war, and what she did to Xaden was absolutely inexcusable. (Although I do think if she hadn’t done that they would have killed all the marked ones.) But she made all those decisions for her children. Because she did what she needed to to keep them safe. You can’t convince me that even after Violet leaves, that even after Mira leaves, that she wasn’t incredibly thankful for the fact they were together and with Xaden who would never let something happen to Violet.
Lilith went into the dungeons to get her daughter out of there and I am not unconvinced that had Violet not already been mid rescue the General wouldn’t have turned traitor right there to get her out. The scene when Brennen reveals himself to her?? She’s cracking and can hardly hold herself together and my heart felt so sorry for her in that moment. It made me mad at Brennan because he threw it in her face like ammo when Violet spent all of fourth wing describing how his death ruined their mother.
One of the most heart breaking quotes in the whole book is at the beginning of chapter 65:
“Most generals dream of dying in service to their kingdom. But you know me better than that, my love. When I fall, it will be for one reason only: to protect our children.”
General Sorrengail didn’t support the war, she didn’t fight for Navarre she made it clear fron the beginning that she was just a mom protecting her kids, and she did so without second thought. Without hesitation. She didn’t do what she did for the war effort, or even to help everyone on the battlefield. She did it for Brennen, and Violet, and Mira.
Lilith Sorrengail was just a desperate mother and everyone glossing over her sacrifice is bullshit.
They also usually have free wifi. One of the few places you can use the wifi without being expected to buy something.
As a librarian, I approve this message.

Some moments where Kamala was a total mood:
1. Asking Fury and Monica why their tablets are transparent when everything is top secret.
2. Geeking out when she puts on a comm unit (and Monica saying something like baby we hear you loll)
3. Making sure to find out what SABER stands for.
4. Getting excited at Fury having 'intel' on her.
5. Dancing on Aladna.
6. Agreeing that she's totally writing fanfic after seeing Yan and Carol together.
7. The Kree hiding from her in fear and her telling them she can't fly so can she have a space ship or something.
8. Going after the SABER crew with the flerkittens.
9. Sweeping her house when there was a literal hole in the roof 😭😭😭
10. Carol saying she feels lonely and her immediately replying that she will drop high school to spend time with Carol so she doesn't feel lonely.

thinking about that episode from season 2 of titans where kory is flirting with those cops in the background of donna's phone call (to dick, right? i can't remember!) and then the other episode from season 2 where faddei steals the diamond necklace for kory and they run away before the cops arrive, and now i'm daydreaming about a fix-it fic of the cops finally arriving and questioning kory over the theft at titans tower and one of them is the cop she had been flirting with way back when and hasn't stopped thinking about her since and dick is about to throw his weight around as an ex-cop to get them to drop any charges but then the cop recognizes kory and they proceed to continue to flirt picking up right where they left off and dick quietly loses his mind in the background.
