The truth is, Steven Moffat has become the Great Intelligence. The threat posed by the Intelligence in ‘Name of the Doctor’ is that he/it will take over the Doctor’s entire life and rewrite it to suit himself. This in the same episode in which Moffat literally inserts his own character, Clara, into every moment of the Doctor’s life, having her meet every single one of his incarnations, putting her at the very moment when the Doctor first leaves Gallifrey, telling him which TARDIS to steal. This in the same episode in which he introduces an entirely new, never-before-seen incarnation of the Doctor. Whatever else you can say about him, Moffat isn’t a writer who allows himself to be troubled by an excess of self-awareness. Of course, all Who is a palimpsest. But Steven Moffat seems to be the only writer to work on the show who is absolutely determined to overwrite his own personality on top of the whole damned thing.

Moffat is the Great Intelligence pass it on.

I actually didn't mind Death in Heaven that much but one thing I hated was this

imageimage

I really didn't care that she was throwing the keys away. I wasn't afraid for the Doctor because of this

Moffat himself wrote out the need for a key to open the TARDIS. It even works for Clara, which Moffat also wrote

So this all seemed like an empty threat. Sure you can explain it away by saying something like the doors have to be unlocked for the snapping to work in the first place but that's never explained. I assume the snapping works at any time. I might be nit picking but I don't care. It was annoying and ruined the emotional impact of the scene for me.

The Doctor loved River. He married her! The Doctor can never see Amy or Rory again because reasons. Clara survived the Doctors time stream and remembers nothing because reasons. Clara loves the Doctor or the Doctor loves Clara....? The War Doctor. The Doctor never destroyed Gallifrey. He would never do that! Having never destroyed Gallifrey takes nothing away from the stories of the 9th Doctor or 10th Doctor. Clara convinces the Time Lords to give the Doctor more regenerations because...love? After knowing he didn't burn his planet the Doctor celebrates his new regeneration by becoming darker, more alien, and shows this by being mean to humans because...he's an old alien and that makes it ok...? When people try to explain all of the above to me.

Radio Times Interview
One such scene, according to Moffat, is a “a five-minute argument between the Doctor and Clara over a restaurant table,” which he says is one of his favourite parts of the 12th Doctor's debut episode.
Which leaves us with just one question: what did the Doctor order...?

He better not have ordered chips. *side eyes that possible rip off of the series 1 chip scene so hard right now*

It really bothers me when Moffat fans try to defend him by insulting the Slitheen episodes, Aliens of London/World War Three and Boom Town. They weren't the best aliens and yes the farting was dumb but that doesn't matter. What matters is everything happening around the Slitheen. Those episodes give us the first visual mark of 'Bad Wolf', Harriet Jones and most importantly the inclusion of Roses family (Jackie and Mickey) into her new life. There was so much development in that two parter. Boom Town gave us even more character and plot development with the heart of the TARDIS, the acknowledgment of 'Bad Wolf' and more proof of how uncomfortable the Doctor is being the cause of someones death even if they do deserve it.  I love those episodes not because of the farting aliens but because they are fun and also had plot progression. It's not the last we see of Harriet Jones and she eventually becomes a rather important character in the end. The inclusion of Roses family and the families of future companions continue, you know, because the companions had a life before the Doctor and those lives and the people in them are important.

Moffat fans shouldn't even bother mentioning the Abzorbaloff from Love & Monsters since that alien was created by a child. Even with an unexciting alien RTD still wrote an episode around it that had character development. We got to see how Roses absence was effecting Jackie. It's hard on those left behind.

The Silence are really cool looking but that's about it. Moffat created them to be "scarier" than past Doctor Who villains but to me they are a symbol of plot holes and let downs. With the Silence we also get Madame Kovarian, she didn't leave much of an impression on me either. Honestly, all I'll remember her for is wearing an eye patch and stealing a baby.

To me the actual alien in an episode really doesn't matter. It's how everyone reacts to the alien and situation that matter. The aliens are there to help drive character and plot development and because it's a science fiction show. Aliens of London/World War Three, Boom Town and Love & Monsters can all be considered as silly episodes but underneath the silliness was a lot of heart. I'll take farting aliens with a great story any day.

I don’t like the argument that certain fans use to excuse the Eleventh Doctors actions. That argument being ‘well the Doctor has always committed genocide and killed so stop acting like Eleven is wrong.’ Yes, the Doctor has committed genocide before and probably will again. He has used weapons and violence. They all have. The difference is how it’s done and the consequences after. Often the Racnoss situation is brought up but look, Ten offers her a choice and ample opportunity to leave. Nine and Ten both offer their enemies a chance to walk away. They offer help, they offer to look for new homes for them. Ten goes as far as to become human to try to avoid killing a species. Ten offers to help Davros and Nine can’t bring himself to kill the Daleks in POTW. They so obviously struggle with their decisions and feel remorse afterwards. The companions, like Rose, are sure to tell them when they are wrong and you can see how horrible Nine feels when he realizes what he almost did.

The problem with Eleven is that he doesn’t seem to look for any other way. He’s so quick to violence and is so flippant about his actions and the actions of those around him. He dances around and jokes with his “wife” about how many of the Silence she can kill to buy them time. His companions are often belittled and never call him out on his BS. The narrative doesn’t even show how wrong his actions are. There are no consequences and it’s never discussed that other ways could have been used, other choices. This is a kids show and they need to be shown and told that even the Doctor can make a bad choice and be called out on it. I just feel like Eleven is often applauded instead of chastised for the atrocities he commits.
