I've said this before and I'll say it again: it's more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic. It's performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to simousltansly critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.

This is ultimately why propaganda is going to work on you. Because you never learned how to think for yourself and the actual ideology behind things. You simply rely on group think and the bare minimum explanations to tell you what's good and bad.

idk who needs to hear this but when your english teacher asks you to explain why an author chose to use a specific metaphor or literary device, it’s not because you won’t be able to function in real-world society without the essential knowledge of gatsby’s green light or whatever, it’s because that process develops your abilities to parse a text for meaning and fill in gaps in information by yourself, and if you’re wondering what happens when you DON’T develop an adult level of reading comprehension, look no further than the dizzying array of examples right here on tumblr dot com

this post went from 600 to 2400 notes in the time it took me to write 3 emails. i’m already terrified for what’s going to happen in there

k but also, as an addendum, the reason we study literary analysis is because everything an author writes has meaning, whether it was intentional or not, and their biases and agendas are often reflected in their choice of language and literary devices and so forth! and that ties directly into being able to identify, for example, the racist and antisemitic dogwhistles often employed by the right wing, or the subconscious word choices that can unintentionally illustrate someone’s bias or blind spot. LANGUAGE HAS WEIGHT AND MEANING! the way we communicate is a reflection of our inner selves, and that’s true regardless of whether it’s a short story or a novel or a blog post or a tweet. instead of taking a piece of writing at face value and stopping there, assuming that there is no deeper meaning or thought behind the words on the page, ask yourself these two questions instead:

1. what is the author trying to say? 2. what does the author maybe not realize they’re saying?

because the most interesting reading of any piece of literature, imho, usually occupies the space in between those questions.

I think more people need to add /s and /j into their online vocabulary and this isnt a joke whatsoever

/j stands for /joke and if u put it at the end of ur sentence that means ur joking

/s stands for /sarcasm and if u put it at the end of ur sentence that means ur being sarcastic

a lotta autistic people (and other neurodivergent ppl tbh) have trouble reading tones in peoples sentences so if you add /j or /s it doesnt like... distract from the sentence but it makes it clear that youre joking/being sarcastic, so people who wouldnt have necessarily read the correct tone will now know what tone its supposed to be conveying

Anyways. Use /s and /j

Huddling together for warmth and telepathic sex

See my recent reply about telepathic sex (working on it!) but here’s the fabulous Huddling Together for Warmth trope!

Suggestions always welcomed

I just saw Ghostbusters. Below is a list of things that were wrong with the movie.

  1. I don’t think balloons can be ghosts
  2. No Rick Moranis

That’s it.

I was confused about #1 too BUT then I remembered the mannequin and how it was just a ghost INSIDE it so I’m pretty sure the giant balloons were just being controlled by the ghosts

Ah yes, that could explain it. Makes enough sense.

Plus, in Ghostbusters 2 they used ectoplasm to make the frigging STATUE OF LIBERTY walk

True true but the ectoplasm and its capabilities were explained well prior to the Statue of Liberty. It made sense. So does the ghosts using the balloons but my mind didn’t connect the two immediately. Really I didn’t see a point to having the balloons there at all except to look cool. Which they did and it was awesome. It just didn’t make 100% sense to me is all. But I mean it’s fiction and fun so it’s not supposed to..still though that part is the most unnecessary for me. That’s all.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, so you don't like Cap. I'm curious what you think about Bucky.

I don’t really know much about him. I’ve only watched Captain America The First Avenger twice and he was ok in that. I didn’t mind him in Winter Soldier but he didn’t actually talk much soooo...I know I don’t like being saturated with him and Captain America lately. They are everywhere so that might be influencing my slight dislike for him. I’m on the fence but leaning towards “do not like”.
