why do you think sirius/ remus just said "nah she didn't" when harry said lily hated james? wouldn't they want harry to know that his parents loved each other? i know those three lines have been so integral to this fandom but sometimes i wonder if they're too nonchalant..? when compared to my burning feelings about these characters hahaha
they didn’t know they were running out of time to have these conversations with him 😢
My answer to this is almost always this: they’re boomers, they’re men, they’re deeply traumatised, one of them was literally in solitary confinement for 12 years, and worst of all, they’re British! No way are these guys comfortable talking about feelings — even those of their friends. In this context, I think “nah, she didn’t” speaks volumes. It’s deliberate litotes (using my English degree there 😅) in the same way that I like to tell my beloved boyfriend he’s “alright, I guess” and my best friend that “I could do worse” than having her amazing presence in her life. Harry is like this too [“I’m a fair flyer”], and I think he’d understand to an extent. It’s telling that he still questions James’ actions after that conversation, but not Lily’s feelings.
But also, CH is right. They probably didn’t realise there wouldn’t be enough time.
