This is Salar de Uyuni, a salt flat measuring 10,582 sq km located in Bolivia’s southwestern regions of Oruno and Potosi. Around 400,000 years ago this location was part of the great Lake Minchin, which has since dried out leaving behind two lakes, Poopo and Uru Uru, and two salt flats, this being the largest.

Salar de Uyuni is DEFINITELY one of the most trippy and magical places I have ever been 🌀
It’s like if you went to “The Upside Down” from Stranger Things but instead of being terrorized by the Demogorgon and monsters you’re greeted by rainbows and fairies 😂🌈⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Is Stranger Things still cool?!? Who am a I kidding, Stranger Things will always be cool 😎⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make sure you watch this full video to see just how trippy these massive salt flats really are 🤯

Volcanic mud. The smell of sulphur was strong. That night I got a cold from spending hours in a volcanic hotspring.

When it rains, the flat surface becomes covered with a shallow pool of water, this acts as a gigantic mirror reflecting the sky, and everything else effortlessly! Cool eh? But wait, there's more! The area is so reflective it is utilised as a calibration tool for satellites, or more specifically; remote sensing instruments. It is considered to be 5 times better for calibration than the surface of the oceans. Impressive! -Jean For more photos and information on the salt flats see here: http://www.kuriositas.com/2011/08/salar-de-uyuni-spectacular-sea-of-salt.html Photo courtesy of: Diego Salgado Mohor

Pretty incredible camera work here.
Reflections from Uyuni is a Time-lapse short film that shows the intrinsic beauty of the salt flat of Uyuni and the province of Potosí in Bolivia. The reflections produced by the water flooding the area in the rainy season, are the main protagonist of Enrique Pacheco´s camera, who invites us to dream with impossible images from another world, where the sky meets the earth forming an infinite mirage.
The salt flat of Uyuni with over 10,000km2 is the largest in the world. It is located in the province of Potosi, Bolivia, near the Andes, at an altitude of 3.656m. The Salar serves as a transport route through the Altiplano of Bolivia, but tourism has an increasingly more important role in the area.

Salar de Uyuni
Salar de Uyuni is the worlds largest salt flat- roughly 12.000 sq km. It is situated in Bolivia, South America.
The prehistoric salt lake, Lago Minchin, which used to cover most of south-west Bolivia, dried up and the salt desert appeared.
Every year, the landscape is covered with a thin layer of water- nearby lakes overflow the area. That's when Salar de Uyuni becomes the worlds largest mirror. And the result is absolutely mesmerizing. If you want to seeyourself in the worlds largest mirror, the perfect time for you to go is in the rainy season (December- April).
The world hides so many wonders and we should discover them all. Salar de Uyuni is one of many other extraordinary creations of our planet. If you do want to see them all, take care and raise awareness about global warming, pollution, littering and other things which destroy our planet daily.

I didn't get to spend much time in Bolivia (2 weeks only which in comparison to other countries I've done in South America was not much) and I only get to see 3 parts of the country. That said, I did enjoy Bolivia, Potosi and one place the made it all worthwhile to come all the way to this part of the world.. Salar de Uyuni! This salt flat is as alien as it gets. From the infinite sight of the salt flat itself to the colorful lakes and life within the salt flat, Salar de Uyuni is really worth the hype.
