The Glacier Skywalk
Some readers will find these images awe inspiring, others terrifying. This is the Glacier Skywalk, found on the edge of Jasper National Park and just outside of Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies.
The skywalk is a constructed ledge that juts out 35 meters from the side of a cliff, hanging 280 meters over the edge of Sunwapta Canyon.
It took 5 years of planning, 2 years of building (during the summer seasons), and a cost of $21 million (Ca). A 400 meter trail leading up to the skywalk also introduces visitors to the local biology and geology.
The building is not without controversy, as it actually sits within a protected National Park. A significant environmental impact statement was completed beforehand, but of course, any time you bring people to a protected area you do impact the surroundings. More information about the skywalk is available below.

A Moment of Pure Bliss in the Canadian Rockies

Like many people, I dreamt about splendors far away from home. I was drawn to adventures in foreign places where everything would be unknown and exciting. I was overlooking my own country and what treasures it had to offer…
“A wise traveler never despises his own country”. — William Hazlitt
To create Canada: Coast to Coast, I embarked on a four months journey over the span of two years.
I saw massive mountain ranges and spectacular waterfalls, turquoise lakes and rivers fed by glaciers, small fishing villages and pulsating cities, as well as dramatic skies over World Heritage Sites and untouched coastlines.
I invite you along to discover the immensity and diversity of my homeland, the world’s second-largest country.
Welcome to a land of contrast and calm grandeur.

rainbowdiablo #nofilter....#BowLakewith backdrops of 2 Glaciers #BowGlacier seen first, then panning to #CrowfootGlacier. The #BowGlacier feeds this lake and the gorgeous Bow River that winds all the way through Calgary. This is a place I could stay ALL day or even a week. Wish I could put a cabin up right here.
