A hike up to the summit of Mt. Whitney, California, surrounded by the granites and metamorphic rocks of the Sierra Nevada batholith. Some smoky sunsets in there as well from the current wildfires.
This is an incredible landscape to view in the first place - the Sierra Nevada Mountains above Lone Pine California, just below Mt. Whitney - this hiker was taking panorama videos, and then an earthquake struck triggering rockfalls all around him.
· natgeotravel Video by @ifyozoma // National Parks are fantastic, but if you find yourself needing more peace and quiet, and you're in search of public lands (where you can bring Fido along!), open up a map and look for the nearest Bureau of Land Management (BLM) spaces. BLM areas like the Alabama Hills are treasures set aside for those looking for a slightly more rustic experience outdoors. BUT, please don't head out to public lands that don't have facilities (most BLM areas do not have the "modern conveniences" of National Parks) if you aren't prepared to carry in your water, food, gas (sometimes), and carry out any and all waste you produce or find. Leave these spaces better than you find them! For more time lapse videos and photos of our public lands follow @ifyozoma.
