Two vertebrae bone blocks from the Yorkshire Jurassic coast from two extinct marine reptiles that hunted in our Oceans around 180 million years ago. One on the right is from a big Ichthyosaur and on the left is a marine Crocodile… 🐬🐊
A variety of material found during a Yorkshire coast fossil hunt, culminating in a nearly complete Ichthyosaur paddle.

I don't know about you 🤔 but personally, I prefer a gastro pub 🍛🍻 to a gastropod 🐚 .... Anyway, here's one I found on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset UK 🇬🇧 ... Any idea anybody as to species❓

Here’s an ancient stone we picked up from the rocky shore following a storm ☔️🤯 We’ve featured this epic video before, and felt it deserved to be shown again! 🏝 The waterfall was rushing down, amongst the water lay this specimen, it split open well 😍🦕 Inside was a perfect Dactylioceras, 185 Million Years Old from the Upper Lias, Lower Jurassic! I’ve not been posting on my page much lately as we have been working on a few other projects! I’ve also been settling into work as a Junior Doctor, which I am thoroughly enjoying 🤓 The Fossil content will be back up and running soon though! For full fossil hunt episodes head to “Yorkshire.Fossils” on YouTube! 🐊 There’s a link in my bio 🦕 If anyone would like a Genuine Yorkshire ammonite and support the page, please message yorkshire fossils!

Here’s a Jurassic stone we picked up from the rocky shore, it split open well! 😍🦕 Although most of the rocks I post contain fossils, the reality is that the majority of these rocks are totally empty! 🏝🌊

This afternoon I've been busy prepping a piece of Goldstone I found on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset 🇬🇧 The wonderful thing about Goldstone is that the ammonites within are a dream to prep!!! As you can see the centre's just pop out clean! Goldstone is extremely rare and packed full of promicroceras and asteroceras sp. ammonites. A layer of golden pyrite runs through the ammonite bed giving the stone it's very apt name.

Broadchurch - World Famous Cliffs
East Cliff is found in the quiet seaside town of West Bay, Dorset, England. It forms part of the Jurassic Coast, over 150 km (93 miles)of shoreline that earned the title of World Heritage Site, and these magnificent cliffs were recently featured as the stunning backdrop to the hit TV series Broadchurch.
Dorset’s coastline is among the most studied and visited in the world. The cliffs were formed over time by erosion and landslides, and with global warming and rising sea levels, the process is sure to continue. The blue-grey sandstone (Bridport Sands) is 43 meters thick and contains fossils dating back to the Lower Jurassic period 190 million years ago. Over time, the rock’s exposed pyrite oxidized and turned the face of the cliff yellow. The harder limestone layers make up the thin rock beds which only measure up to 75cm, while the soft sandstone makes up the thicker beds, measuring between 30cm and 3m. Each meter of rock could have taken about 200,000 years to accumulate.
Since the show first aired in 2013, the search for hotels in the towns of West Bay and Bridport has risen nearly 70%. Locals are worried as fans flock to the cliffs, which are quite weathered and unstable -- earlier this year part of thiis beach was closed after a large collapse. This puts not only the cliff-walkers at risk, but also those below on the beach that could get hit by falling rock. Local geologists see the show as an opportunity to raise awareness and encourage people to find out more about the Jurassic Coast.

Another incredibly well preserved and detailed piece of crinoid I found recently that fits directly on to other pieces I have found. This species of crinoid known as pentacrinites fossilis, hung down from the underside of wood floating on the sea. There it would filter food from the water column. The colony would become too big and, or, the wood became water-logged and the whole thing sank to the sea bed where the colony met it's death and slowly became fossilised preserving the event in stunning detail! Found on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset UK 🇬🇧
