About 90% of the visitors to Grand Canyon National Park head to the developed areas on the Canyon's South Rim, but the North Rim provides views that in some ways may be even better - fewer visitors and gentle folding puts the North Rim at a higher elevation than the south rim! Visit that rim in this clip.

The Hike to Havasupai Falls at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
From the "Don't try this unless you're 100% ready for it" file - hiking the Grand Canyon, Rim to Rim, in 1 day is nearly impossible for anyone but seasoned, well-prepared, athletic hikers. Here's a clip of doing so. If you want to go rim to rim there (post pandemic), make an appointment to stay at Phantom Ranch at the bottom. Far less likely to die.
A tour of Grand Canyon National Park prepared for its centennial last year. Original caption:
Here is my homage to the centennial celebration of the Grand Canyon National Park. Obviously the canyon itself is considerably older than that. I've had some many good times at the canyon since I was young and have many more trips planned. As the storms sweep across with the powerful downpours I know that little carving is occurring in the canyon on this day. The amount of water, wind and time to to erode what we see today is beyond my ability to conceive.

This article on John Wesley Powell, who famously explored the Grand Canyon area and after whom Lake Powell is named, explores his so-called anthropological studies of the Native populations and his belief that those populations needed to be "Civilized". An illustration of the choices we are making when we tell certain parts of a story to glorify an individual, while leaving other parts to a legacy that isn't discussed.

We spent a week driving across the American southwest and enjoyed every stop along the way. Zion was our first destination, followed by Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell, the Grand Canyon, and a final stop in Sedona.

This view was quite amazing to be surrounded by for 15 days. I highly recommend this for anyone with the time, money and ability to go without their devices for 15 days. Watch out for red ants!

I visited the Grand Canyon in March 2019 for the first time and I spent a day there. I took mostly photographs but luckily I shot enough footage for the first half of the day to make a short film about it. It's a breathtaking place, especially if you can have a seat and enjoy the sunset.

Arizona and California road trip. Original caption:
Home. For some home is the scorching desert. For others, it's the lush California Valley. For some, home is running away from it. Home isn't one place, it's a feeling.

6 minutes of timelapse exploration of the American Southwest - more than half of this is in the Grand Canyon, with sunsets and sunrises, shadows and storms, with a few interludes in Bryce Canyon and elsewhere
The rim above the clouds
These photos capture clouds filling almost the entire Grand Canyon due to a temperature inversion.
Cold, humid, and foggy air is denser than warm air, so if the air is stable enough it is possible for a weather pattern to form where a dense, foggy layer of air sits in the canyon and is held in place by the warmer air above it.
These inversions are not uncommon, typically occurring in the Canyon once every year or every few years. This one is particularly impressive since the boundary layer is so close to the actual canyon rim.
