Snaking through the sky 

This panoramic photograph of the Milky Way was taken in Serpentine National Park. The falls are formed where water tumbles over the Darling Scarp, a major fault near the coast in Western Australia that separates ancient, Precambrian aged crust from younger rocks in the Perth Basin to the west.

The dancing lights over Norway of the end of summer/start of fall. Original caption:

"It is common belief that September is too early to view the Northern Lights within the Arctic circle. Truthfully, it is one of the best times to see them, especially if you don't like the cold. September is my favorite month of the year for aurora, as you have a bit of both cold and warm worlds.

STARS OVER THE SALTON SEA This image was taken by Michael Shainblum at about 7:30pm on November 12th of 2012; the Andromeda galaxy is the bright spot in the top right of the image. It is a 5 image vertical panorama taken from the Abandoned Navy Pier on the western side of the Salton Sea, a rift lake on the San Andreas Fault, in California’s Imperial and Coachella Valleys.
