one thing that is so impressive about that haka protest is that it gives off the impression of being spontaneous while still being unified. like it is so fucking hard to get people at protests to stand in lines, to not break lines at marches, to keep a steady pace, to maintain volume and rhythm during chants, etc. and in that clip a bunch of Maori completely filled the room with noise by doing haka. You can even see other people join in after it starts. just like genuinely very impressive and awe-inspiring to see that type of resistance being done and how seamless it looks. the amount of work and effort and organising that takes is crazy
hana-rawhiti maipi-clarke leads te paati maori, the green party, the labour party and the public gallery in a haka, shutting down parliament before the vote for the treaty principles bill (1st reading) can be completed
Prepackaged instant noodles have their origins in the cheap price for wheat and fat (in the original case, soybean oil) dumped by the US on its East Asian protectorates, South Korea and Japan, as American aid after the Second World War and the Korean war. Since then, prepackaged instant noodles have become a staple of migrant workforces around the world. In China, the prepackaged instant noodle has become a fixture of life for the country’s poorest people and especially in the dormitories and cramped apartments of migrant workers. In this sense, it powered and continues to power the production of a huge proportion of the world’s material culture that flows outward from those factories. Nearly everything that surrounds me as I write to you emerged from or contains components built in coastal Chinese plants where palm oil-heavy instant noodles form a fixture of young migrant workers’ diets. Dozens of parts of the computer on which I type, the wax on the table on which it sits, the small plastic bottle of hand cream, the shoes I am wearing and so much more.

I love Vex. Idk why, but she is my fav vox machina character. She bewitched my body and soul. Probably, partially because she is cool bear mom. Can't wait for tlovm season 3😫
"Blocking aid from reaching Gaza is destroying its health system, which cannot meet people's needs. (...) people with chronic illnesses, pregnant women with complications, children falling sick from infectious diseases linked to the deplorable conditions in which they are forced to live." (MSF - May, 2024) "Almost nothing is getting in anymore. (...) a kilo of tomatoes costs nearly $20 [£16] (...)," said one UN official. (Guardian - Nov. 2024). Note: Price of food has shot up badly in just 2 months. In September, 1kg of tomatoes was ~$12. Before Oct. 2023 it was $1
After a year of deteriorating conditions and a severe lack of aid, Mohammed Al-Habil (@alhabil) & his family are in an incredibly dangerous situation. He and his wife are parents to 3 very young children: Ahmed (8), Osama (6), & Mira (4). Their children's elderly grandparents are also with them. Over the course of the last year, they've all become increasingly unwell, but right now Mohammed & his wife are terrified for their children and his parents.
- All 3 kids have been sick several times and have been acutely malnourished for months. But right now, the lack of food is putting them dangerously at risk of starvation
- Both of Mohammed's parents have diabetes & hypertension. His mother also suffers from osteoporosis and a slipped disc (her health in particular has severely deteriorated without treatment)
Winter just started and its only going to worsen their situation. Mohammed urgently needs to be able to buy food and warmer clothes for all of them (especially his children), and medication for his parents. He needs to raise about 2k as soon as possible to do this though, so please donate whatever you can !
