[day 5] flower
not my best work i guess, but i like the idea ever since i found out that palmon could actually waft a pleasant smell from the flower on the top of her head when she's happy. just a short, quick drabble for now with no creativity on the title lmao :)
“Mimi, you smell very nice.”
It was just a simple comment from Palmon, but it was enough to make her smile widened. “Really?” she asked while looking away from the mirror to gaze at her dear partner.
“Mm-hmm. You smell like a flower!” Palmon nodded excitedly. “I don’t know that humans also smell when they’re happy. I thought it was only us Palmons.” She then pointed out the flower above her head, where a sweet fragrance would waft during joyful times.
Mimi chuckled. “We’re not, you silly. We use a thing called perfume. Look.” She picked up a small glass bottle filled with a liquid in cotton candy colour from her vanity. The cap was shaped like a ribbon, and when Mimi pressed it just below Palmon’s shoulder, it let out a slight spritz that emanated such a pleasant smell. “Is it good? I got it last year from Papa for a birthday present. This one is named Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet.”
“It’s so good!” And you could tell it was a sincere exclamation because Palmon even squealed. “So, are you wearing perfume because you’re happy, Mimi?”
“Of course,” Mimi continued to apply some makeup. “There is no girl in the world who’s not happy going to her first date.”
Her curious remarks made Mimi paused for a moment once again. She wasn’t sure if this was a term she could explain easily. “A date is where you go for a walk somewhere with a person. You’re going to hold each other’s hand, having a scrumptious lunch while talking about everything. And then you’re going somewhere else again, probably taking a picture together as memorabilia. Basically, you spend your day together doing whatever you like, and after you’re feeling tired, you can end the date by bidding each other good night and a very sweet dream.”
“But if that’s a date, we can do it together too, Mimi! Why do you have to go with Yamato?”
“Well… because I love Yamato.”
“Oh, no, no, sweetheart. That’s not what I mean,” Mimi immediately took off from the chair when she caught Palmon’s eyes getting watery. She pulled Palmon into a hug, stroking her partner’s back in hope it was soothing enough for Palmon not to shed a tear. “You know I love you so very much, Palmon. But the feeling I have for Yamato is different.
“Why is he different? Is it something that humans can only feel?”
“…I think you could say so.” Mimi was actually astonished by all the questions Palmon got for her today. She really had to give them some thoughts to come up with an answer. “You’ve met my parents, right? To simply put, my feeling for Yamato is the same as Mama’s feeling for Papa. I want to be together with Yamato just like them. I want to marry him, build a house together with him, have a family with him. But most importantly, I want to spend my entire life with him.”
As she finished with her own explanation, Mimi realised that more and more questions could be raised instead. She knew that Palmon was ready with her next question, but thankfully, her mother saved her by knocking on the door, saying that Yamato had arrived and was waiting outside.
“Coming!” she replied before glancing once again to Palmon. “Don’t worry, Palmon. I promise that you can tag along with Gabumon too on our next date. We just need some time since this will be the first, okay?”
She patted Palmon’s cheek and returned for one last check on the mirror without waiting for a response. Palmon didn’t say a word anyway, not until Mimi finally grabbed her purse and excused herself. “Mimi! Can I ask one last question before you leave?”
Mimi stopped. The door was already ajar. “Yes?”
“Are you happy with Yamato?”
It was undeniably the easiest question for her to answer today.
Palmon smiled. “Then I’m happy for you too.”
