[chapter 3] the sinensis affair

so this chapter was published on august 31st but i then remembered it was takari week, so i postponed this post a little bit. this should finished back on july, even i planned to have this as digiweek day 5 submission, but the work has been busy. shoutout to @themistymermaid and her reviews because i honestly thought this will be self-indulgence lmao.

___

It was a regular Sunday morning for Koushiro, even though he only woke up at 9, which was quite late from his usual time. It could be easily justified, though, as he was attending a wedding last night. Despite the fact that he did not take any glass of liquor, the event was still exhausting for an introvert like him—especially with an overly extroverted person like Shiuchon clinging on his tail.

With his eyes half-closed, Koushiro tidied his bed and headed to the toilet in autopilot mode. A flush, then he got out before yelping so loud, eyes now fully opened finding a young woman in the kitchen casually boiling some water.

She was startled by his reaction. "Are you okay?"

He totally forgot that Hikari was staying with him.

Did he close the bathroom door earlier?

Thank you for your reply on the flower ask, I love the yamato nadeshiko connection for Hikari. What about the season you associate with the ships? For me Taiora would be Autumn and Koukari Winter because of their hues, but would like to hear your thoughts, thanks in advance :)

first of all, anon, let me love you 🧡❤️💜💖

the hues really determine their colour palettes and their seasons, didn't they? i absolutely agree with you on that part :) gotta say i am very inconsistent when it comes to determining the seasons because i'm also a sucker for four seasons. maybe sometimes later i will talk about one of my published novels titled "the four seasons" I AM NOT KIDDING.

okay, so... if i am allowed to be very specific on the period, i will probably choose between midsummer or indian summer. if we use the japanese almanac, they actually have the rainy season (tsuyu) in early summer—from beginning of june to mid-july—so i would prefer somewhere after that where the sun starts to get fiery because these two are always burning with passion, right? but maybe with a slight rain, one or two, because how about a few raindrops between friends? ;)

i agree with you that autumn can be their season, but for me, it must be on the indian summer period where autumn gets a little warmer. honestly, it's difficult to associate taiora with something cold. and of course, most of my taiora's association to autumn is courtesy of @sorasfishing and her beautiful fic, colors in autumn 🙌

with koukari, it's a tad hard for me to associate with an "intense" season like summer (hot) and winter (cold). i think i've mentioned once that koukari is about balance; the thinker and the feeler, the science and the magic. that's why i found either spring or autumn is more suitable for them. the best period might be that early spring (probably late winter) where the flowers are still in bud, but the air is getting warmer. it's sort of a representation of "shy love" i guess.

be that as it may, if i reaaally need to pick one, absolute season, taiora can have the summer. for koukari... while i can imagine early spring, the whole spring is too "flowery" if you get what i mean, so i might choose autumn.

see? i'm very inconsistent 🤣

i hope my answer did not bore you, anon. hehe.

these two would go to concerts together. a few days after a concert was announced, she would text him nonstop ("WE NEED TO GET THE TICKETS NO MATTER WHAT") because she got fomo easily, while he had two moods: one being "HELL YEAH WE ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO GO" and the other being "geez woman chill, it's still 3 months away."

they always bought the standing view because what's a concert if you're sitting down? he would take care of her and make sure she was still within his sight. if she asked whether they could go more to the front row, he would go with his chaotic method to clear the way. they were too broke for official merchandise, so they could only settle for freebies and the ticket stub.

when junpei had his first concert, they were the first two to stand up and clap the loudest.

i'm living for these two being a fanboy and a fangirl.

Anonymous asked:

Hi just wondering if you associate any specific flower with Taichi, Sora, Koushiro and Hikari respectively. Have a great day!

anon, why does it feel like this question is very targeted and specific LMAOOOO

thanks for the ask! happy to see this on my inbox this morning <3

despite my love for flowers and the fact that my real name means flower, i... have a very general knowledge about them and always need to look at multiple, different websites to know about their meaning.

my quick answer will be the flowers that sora used in her arrangement on to sora. i tried to think of some alternatives, but i don't think mine will compete to sora's brilliant head (well, she's the daughter of iemoto, after all) ;)

🌼 sora

i know some people perceived poppy as a remembrance of war, so an alternative for her might be a good thing.

i think camellia suits her well because it's a classic japanese flower. camellia means modesty, but at the same time, red camellia can also means, "you're a flame in my heart" (flame of birdramon, anyone?).

perhaps carnation is also good for her. it's a flower for mother, and sora's the mom of the group, right? i can also see red tulip for her somehow.

🌼 hikari

one way or another, hikari might be deemed as the yamato nadeshiko of the series, and the pink colour of nadeshiko (dianthus) kinda suits her, doesn't it? pink nadeshiko means pure love, btw, and it kinda reflects hikari's love towards others.

honestly one thing that upsets me is that there was no sakura in sora's arrangement (although they eventually gave too much sakura in the end just to emphasis a new beginning without the digimon partners... DAMMIT KIZUNA). i can see hikari gets pink sakura because of its meaning: spiritual beauty.

if we don't want to be colour-compliant, i think baby breath suits hikari too!

🌼 koushiro

i have no complaint at all with him getting lavender because it's one of my favourite flowers too lol. if you want an alternative, maybe violet can be a choice. it means modesty, which i think suits the humble koushiro.

🌼 taichi

can't think an alternative to gazania. collectively, taiora is often associated with sunflowers, so i think taichi has a right to be associated with it individually speaking since his crest is also a sun. honestly just pick an orange-coloured flower and it'll work for him lol.

headcanon requests, you say? do you have any kenkari headcanons?

Avatar

kenkari headcanons feel free to interpret these as platonic or romantic! #kenkariwasrobbed

  • hikari gave ken some hairclips after watching his match one day. she thought it must be a bother playing football with such long (and beautiful) hair, so maybe hairclips would help.
  • the next day, daisuke called them twin because of the similar haircut and the clip.
  • so ken started to tie his hair during a match. not that he didn’t like the hairclip; he was just shy.
  • (and hairclips were so much better than wearing a hat. sorry, takeru…)
  • in terms of kenyako, hikari was actually the one who helped ken to make a move (or to answer to miyako’s move, because let’s just be real: miyako’s the active one). ken often came to hikari to consult about miyako, even after ken had started dating miyako, and deep inside hikari felt so proud about that. (“hehe, i’m her jogress partner and her best friend—i know her better than mr. boyfriend do!”)
  • i still believe other than daisuke and miyako, hikari was actually the one who approached ken after the kaiser arc because she felt his struggle with darkness, even though it was still hard for her to apologise for his menace back then. (cue to ep 32 where hikari messaged ken before the kids headed to the digital world)
  • to be clear, they were not afraid of oceans. be that as it may, at one point in their life, she asked him to go to the beach. they did nothing; just staring at the vast, open water in silence. the ocean was the epitome of darkness for them, so they kinda “train” themselves to get used to it. they learned to suppress the darkness together—maybe “this year, i’ll be brave” was also ken’s mantra, chloe? :p
  • the beach visit became their routine agenda. every time ken wanted to go to the beach, he would definitely ask hikari too, and vice versa.
  • among the other digidestineds, hikari was the first one who ask to greet osamu (in japanese household, usually a family had some sort of altar to remember the dead, and one can “greet” the dead by praying in front of the altar). hikari had an older brother like ken, and she couldn’t imagine the burning pain if she lost taichi, hence she wanted to pay some respect.
  • while in the beginning tailmon was very sceptical towards ken, tailmon then found ken as one of the nicest people ever. being a mature digimon, tailmon really liked to be around someone who was intelligent and could have a meaningful discourse together. tailmon saw ken as one.
  • on the other hand, wormmon LOVES hikari—but who doesn’t? perhaps because hikari always had this warmth for digimon. if it’s not ken, other than daisuke, minomon only wanted to be hanged in the arms of hikari.
  • yes, they accidentally bought their mantle at the same place. (if it’s not them going to muji together…)
  • also, we knew that ken became a heartthrob in college thanks to the newest 02. don’t care what other people said, but i think he would ask hikari to pretend to be his girlfriend once to avoid the fangirl commotion. she was his only option considering miyako was abroad.
  • ken developed an interest to protect kids after the event with the dark spores. when he studied psychology in college, one of his favourite subjects was child psychology. he conversed a lot with hikari who also took the same class
  • this was also the reason why, after he became a police, he would drop by around the daycare/kindergarten where hikari worked even though he might not be posted around the area. he wanted to make sure that the kids were safe.
  • (jk, he actually wanted to see her too)
  • every year, hikari would pester him to come to the career day as your friendly neighbourhood policeman. he gladly accepted though
  • (no, he didn’t have the ability to shoot spider web, but he came with wormmon who could shoot sticky nets, so that’s basically the same thing… right?)

that marks the end of my submissions for @digiweek 2022! thank you so much for the lovely likes, reblogs, and commentaries. i'm having fun :)

as the mod, personally, i want to say thank you to @tangledupblue for wanting to do this once again with me. it's an honour to work with you as always. we thought this year will be difficult, as we both got a job and i suddenly needed to have a surgery amidst the event, but hey, i gotta say we're quite chill this year. maybe it's because we knew already what to do? lol.

also, i know that this year's might be a little bit tranquil (we had 300 submissions last year, yet this year's submission count only surpassed 200 by a bit) because we understand there's a lot of things happening. but content-wise, i was sooo excited because we saw a lot of new things and creative interpretations. for that, we thank you all <3

a to z: digimon featuring adventure, 02, tamers, and frontier

for some people, digimon is just a show they watched a long time ago every sunday morning; a happy, fleeting part of their childhood. but for me, digimon is a significant part of my life that shaped me into what i am today.

digimon taught me that there might be wonders beyond our grasp, so you always have to be ready because you never know what kind of adventure lies ahead. there will be bad days, but good things come to those who wait as long as you stay kind. the battles might be hard, but you will always have people who love you for who you are; be it your family, friends, or partner.

i'll become a happy butter-fly, and there's no way i can lose to the towering target. i'll be the biggest dreamer running full speed through, to the frontier full of unknown—and i'll take you along.

HAPPY ODAIBA DAY! (for @digiweek 2022 day 7; inspired by 1, 2, 3)

hot summer night

🍶 miyako + iori // [day 6] exam (challenge) - for @digiweek 2022 for this day, i'm trying to write about that one dynamic (and perhaps two characters) i rarely wrote about. this fic was tricky to write and i even finished this the last one among all the digiweek contents i created. but that's what this day is about, right? and frankly i'm happy with the result! this fic was inspired by this fanart. the first time i saw it, i knew i had to write about iori accompanying drunk miyako someday. this fic sets before kizuna and before miyako left for spain. idk why i remembered miyako having an exchange program instead of being a full-time student in barcelona. let's just assume it that way in this case, and sorry if i was wrong. at least i correctly implied miyako as a gemini (this is canon fyi). also, no, this is not a romance fic between those two, even though it has hot in the title (sorry i'm on title block so i only snatched one of the script's song titles). there's a minor kenyako, though. happy reading!

___

Iori found Miyako in front of his cram school that night in June, looking very standout with her purple strands and cherry-tinted lips. It was easy to be in the limelight when you wore makeup and shirts with striking colours among students with crumpled uniforms and weary faces after studying for the whole day.

“Iori-kuuun!”

Her high-pitched voice didn’t sound like a mature college woman, however.

Iori sighed, getting a second-hand embarrassment because everyone’s attention diverted to him after she echoed his name. He proceeded to walk out and approached her, asking the obvious, “Miyako-san, what are you doing here?”

“Meanie. Is that something appropriate to greet to your senpai?” Miyako pouted for a second before returning to her jolly mood. “I happen to be around so I figure I can ask you to accompany me for a dinner.”

He glanced at her feet and atop of her head, only to find something was missing. “Where is Hawkmon?”

“Oh, I told Hawkmon to fly to your house with some food from my konbini. Armadimon is home, ne?” she responded. “Come on, Iori-kun. It’s been a long time since we had fun just the two of us. Isn’t this a perfect time now that I’m going to leave next week and the others are too busy with their freshmen stuff?”

It was not a bad idea at all. He initially planned to grab a takeaway because his mother and grandfather were out of town, but now with Armadimon’s dinner settled, he didn’t have to worry about his partner starving alone.

He just didn’t know that Miyako also had her own plan of ordering a bottle of sake right when they just stepped inside the yatai tent.

Iori took a seat beside her, eyeing her ever so cautiously. He remembered the day Miyako turned twenty last May, and she decided to celebrate it by secretly grabbing a can of beer from her store. She posted its photo in their group chat, prompting joyous reactions from Mimi and Taichi, in addition to a jealous wail from Daisuke. Miyako then seemed to embark on her personal adulthood venture, trying different types of liquor ever since.

“…you do understand that I am still a minor, don’t you?” he said as he watched her pouring the sake into a cup.

“And why do you think that will stop me? It’s not like I’m asking you to drink along.”

“Just because I’m younger than you, that doesn’t mean I cannot tell you off.”

“Well, can you?”

He could, for real. He just chose not to.

Miyako then chuckled. “Don’t worry. It’s because you’re with me that I have to drink more responsibly. What will people say if they see a high schooler carrying a drunk woman home?” She took her first shot and whooped right after her cup was empty. “Ahh, this is sooo good! You’re going to love this once you turn legal.”

“To be honest, I cannot see myself drinking even when I reach the right age.”

“Aw, what a shame. I look forward to coming back here and sharing sake with you.”

He pondered, sipping his ice tea. “Well, perhaps I can make an exception for you.”

“Right? I don’t think lawyers can survive without attending nomikai,” Miyako instigated as she snatched the first fresh-grilled yakitori from their plate. “Speaking of which, is that what you really want to aim for? Go to law school and become an attorney?”

“That’s the plan for now,” Iori also grabbed a negima but did not bite into it before he finished with his answer. “I know it’s hard to enter a law school, so that’s why I sign up for cram school as early as possible.”

“Yeah, but I just—” Miyako sighed. “I don’t want you to keep studying and let your youth pass without having fun. You’re only in high school once, so do something crazy. Skip a class, have some dates, go on a summer vacation with your friends….”

Iori paused, looking at his faint reflection on the glass.

“I am having fun,” he continued. “I have a great time battling monsters and saving the world. It makes me realise that I want to fight for the right thing and help people to get out of iniquity. And I believe becoming a lawyer is a good way to accomplish that.”

He was aware of how idealistic he sounded just then. If he was with other people, they would certainly be laughing at his words, telling him that the world was too cruel of a place for justice to prevail and he should just stick to a dream that was more within his proximity.

But he wasn’t with other people right now. He was with Miyako, who cracked a smile while looking at him with proud glimmering behind her spectacles.

“That’s just really you,” she said. “I know you’re a good kid the moment I laid my eyes on you. And I hope you know that I’m always rooting for you, no matter what. After all, I’m the big sis who just loves my reliable Iori-kun a bit too much!”

And that was when Iori couldn’t help but giggle. He was used to people calling him mature even when he was a little boy, but once he wore the high school uniform and felt a lump growing in his throat, it was still surreal for him how he really reached the age of adolescence. That was why he was glad to have Miyako around because she was a constant reminder of how he would still be someone’s little brother.

Her phone suddenly vibrated above the table, and as she picked up to see what was on the screen, Iori noticed her face getting a bit red. Somehow, he reckoned it wasn’t because of the sake, yet he didn’t want to pry further so he chose another topic. “How’s your departure preparation?”

No hay problema! I’m leaving on Wednesday’s noon, though, so I guess you can’t set me off to the airport.”

Ne, sorry for that.” It was rather unfortunate for him that Miyako chose to fly to Barcelona instead of using the Digital Gate for the sake of enjoying that wanderlust feeling. Iori started to consider whether this would be the right time to skip a class just like she advised just now. “Is there anything I can help with?”

“Hmm. Just promise me to pick up when I video-call you,” she said before quickly adding, “oh, oh, I know! You can visit me during your summer break. Ask Ken and the others to join too!”

Just like that, he easily solved the puzzle. “Ichijouji-san?”

“Ah, yes! He’s helping me learn Spanish even though he’s busy with college,” Miyako responded, and Iori could hear her voice turn jovial at once. “He even texted me just now to check my progress. I think I should go meet him tomorrow.”

There was something stirring inside him that he tried to brush off by picking up another skewer. However, it was obvious he didn’t sound so thrilled when he blurted out, “Oh.

And Miyako caught his reaction with pleasure. “I thought you no longer hate him.”

“I don’t hate him.”

“Are you jealous, then?”

“No.”

But boy, did he never stray too far from the truth.

After all, he was a little brother who just cared about his big sis a bit too much.

to all the (frontier) boys i've loved before — for @digiweek 2022 day 5: crossover

With her half-Italian appearance, Izumi was like a rare diamond that stood out among her friends—but that also made her struggle to fit in. As it was difficult for her to express her feelings, she found solitude in writing everything she thought and felt, notably towards the five boys she met across the time.

When her family decided to move to Italy, she left and kept everything in her childhood house, including the letters that should have never been sent in the first place—only to find them missing once she returned to Japan...

@digiweek 2022 day 3: recess (humor) tell us anything funny about digimon (funny scenes, funny moments, funny memories).

as told in this gif post, one of the funniest memories of mine pertaining to digimon was when i tried to recreate taichi's omurice from episode 21.

bear in mind that i was somewhere in grade school and not really that interested in cooking, but damn the omelette rice that taichi made looked so scrumptious that i just had to. also, in my house, we always made that thin, crepe-like omelette that has brown bits and crispy edges as we always cooked them well-done. that's why taichi's soft and fluffy-looking omelette looked very beautiful.

i replayed this particular episode on my vcd player and paused right at the moment when taichi cracked some eggs. i counted each yolk on the bowl and there were 8 of them. eight. my brain stopped working properly all of a sudden somehow and concluded that to make 1 portion of such a fluffy omelette, i needed 8 eggs.

yep, i forgot taichi was cooking for 3 portions (himself, koromon, and hikari).

my household did not have a non-sticky pan back then. the smallest utensil that we had was an ugly wok with heavy chars on its bottom due to the frequent use, inherited from my late grandmother. so i used it.

and as i had 0 knowledge of cooking, in addition that i could not flip my eggs mid-air like taichi did, the result was... another crepe-like omelette with such a big diameter because of the fact that it contained 8 frickin' eggs. i remembered transferring them to my usual plate and it was too small for the omelette!

when my mother came home from work, she got very angry after finding the egg tray was almost empty. we had this unspoken rule of only using 1 egg per person per day because we were required to be thrifty, so... yeah, i ended up getting scolded lol.

now that i like to spend my spare time cooking in the kitchen, omurice becomes one of the dishes i love to make for my brother and myself. i often experiment with different types of fried rice and sauce to accompany the omelette, and of course i did try various techniques to cook the omelette! but nope, i cannot do that kichi-kichi style omelette—it's too hard for me. maybe someday.

considering that the prompt for day 3 is also recess, i figured other than sharing a humorous story of mine, i can also share the recipe for this dish, which i called the magnificent onemurice as a play on taichi name meaning. if you need a visual step-by-step, this video is a great one and very easy to follow for beginners. and yes, i remembered taichi also served potesara (potato salad) along with the omurice, so i also drop the recipe. it's a nice, simple side-dish.

who knows, maybe you can cook this omurice for your recess time tomorrow? :)

e: i was in the waiting room (of the hospital) last night and it just clicked me... if you will interpret the "exam" (for day 6) as... doctor's examination
t: nope
t: but that would've been fun
t: or awkward
e:it would've been fun only if i don't have surgery EXACTLY on day 6
t: imagine: sora's first visit to the ob-gyn!
e: or tokomon went for teeth removal!
t: that would be a nightmare
t: just as angewomon's eye surgery would go
e: better: jyou's the doctor
t: better: gomamon's his nurse/assistant and just keeps making fun of him
e: and takeru was there holding tokomon all the time

👟 taichi + sora // [day 2] sports day (relationship) - for @digiweek 2022 the prompt for this day is sports day, and one of the subprompts is to tell about a (favourite) relationship. it happened (i swear this is all a coincidence) that the fic i planned last year for the prompt sport on taiora week was about them doing undokai, so i tried to write it now after postponing for almost a year lol. at the end of the day, taiora will always be my otp no matter what. let's assume this was after tri. when they were in their last year of high school. also, the idea was from a shoujo titled ui x kon.

___

Although her birthday was in spring, there were many things that got her more excited about autumn. The heat slowed down into a warmer atmosphere. The leaves turned to her favourite colour. The seasonal chestnut cake from the local bakery.

Also, undokai.

Indeed it made her sound like a fifth-grader when in fact she was already in her final year of high school—but that was why it became more important. This would be her last sports day ever before graduating. While her choice of college had some good sports clubs for its students, there was no guarantee if she could ever experience the same feeling of working together with the whole class to be the school's champion.

The said thought might be a one-sided opinion, though, because she was blessed with athleticism, while some students might not and dreaded the event. Well. Lucky for those who were her classmate, then, because she volunteered to participate in as many games as she could.

Sora was not the only one; their class also happened to have Taichi—former captain of the football club, the MVP of last year’s competition, consistently at the top of the rank when it came to PE subject. They were the powerhouse of their homeroom, the Captain America and the Iron Man of their own Avengers. Unless there was a sports prodigy among the first years, it was almost guaranteed that victory would lay in their hands.

And, oh—also, unless Mimi reinvigorated the undokai in a very Meems-way. She was on the committee this year after getting frustrated with the way things worked previously, which was—as quoted—profoundly deadening.

As predicted, many antics were spotted during the event, but it also became a mirthful entertainment for the entire school. Like how the baton for the relay changed into a weird-shaped headpiece, so you might witness someone fleeing with a rice paddy hat or even a boy running with a wedding veil. The tug of war was also conducted on the edge of their swimming pools, which would lead the losers to fall and soak. The most hilarious one was probably the cheerleading battles because you could watch the squads getting pranked by the committee because they changed the music midway and they had to improvise. The fact that most classes sent their heartthrobs (like Yamato, of course) made it better because their flawless image suddenly turned into something memeable.

By noon, Sora had finished all the games she signed up for. She didn’t get first place in every sport but obtained enough points to push her class to the top of the leaderboard. Each time she passed her classmates, they would shower her with either a cheer, a thank, or a compliment; yet the only thing she needed right now was a quiet rest. And for that reason, she sat down under the tree—the one that still had its leaves—sitting with her legs stretched out. There was a peace in watching the crowds from afar, the comfort of being by herself in the middle of all the motions.

That was only until Taichi found her.

“What are you doing here?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. It was funny how she was so immersed in her distanced observation but barely aware of her own surrounding because his sudden voice almost made her jump.

“Nothing,” she answered. “Just… you know. Resting. Witnessing the youth pass by in front of me.”

“Gee, Sora, you really need to stop speaking like a grandma.”

“Do you think a grandma can run a lap in under thirteen seconds while keeping a sombrero on her head?”

“Touché. Congratulations, by the way.”

But instead, she was the one who handed him the trophy in the form of a bottle of cold water. “Sit down. You must be tired.”

“Nah, thanks. I’m cool,” he only welcomed the bottle, drinking while standing still with one hand on his waist. His towering figure was looming over her, and it finally dawned on her how much her best friend had evolved. Sora still remembered the day when they used to walk home together during sunset after football practices. There was one period around the first grade of elementary when she often bragged about how her shadow looked longer because she was taller. He would say no, but they both knew that it was his hair that made the difference seem less obvious. Cursing at how puberty worked, he then swore that one day he would get taller than her to the point he could reach the top of the goalpost without jumping.

And now he did. He didn’t even have to tiptoe to be able to grasp the goalpost.

Unknowingly, she muttered in a daze, “You’ve grown up, Taichi.”

He stopped and put the cap back on, peering at her through his shoulder only to chuckle. “Seriously. Stop acting like an old lady.” Twisting the now-empty bottle, his attention then turned to the incoming announcement from the main field. The doki-doki scavenger hunt would happen in a few minutes, and it was a cue for Taichi to go as one of the participants. “Alright, onto the final battle!”

“You think you’re going to finish first this time?” Sora asked; her tone was far from underestimating him. After all, Taichi had a bad history with scavenger hunts. In his first year, he joined the competition and wasn’t able to solve the required riddle. It annoyed him so much that he signed up again the following year, and while he managed to understand the puzzle, it took him some time, so he wasn’t quick enough to win. This was his last attempt to satisfy his competitiveness in this particular game.

“We’ll see if Mimi really holds onto her words when she says ‘oh I’m gonna make it so easy for that big head of yours’ or it’s her mouth that’s actually big,” Taichi scorned, actually quoting Mimi’s mockery with a high pitch. “I’m not as smart as Koushiro when it comes to the riddle, but man, these feet are ready to run.”

“Well… it’s Mimi. Even if it’s easy, I’m sure she’ll still find a way to make it…” agitating? “—memorable. I wonder what they mean with ‘doki-doki’ though.”

“Jumpscares, I bet. Yamato must be grateful he’s in the cheering squad.”

Taichi then bid her goodbye, and Sora wished him good luck in return. From her seat, she could watch the participants gathered in the middle of the field, standing as someone from the committee explained the rules. Once they did, the whistle howled and the game started. Everyone immediately rushed to pick up the instruction card, but instead of scrambling around, they somehow remained in the position still. Did the committee—or Mimi—choose to make it harder instead?

Like the other participants, Taichi also had not yet departed. However, instead of looking confused, he seemed… hesitant. And somehow, when he lifted his head, the first thing he looked at was her direction.

(And despite the distance, why did it feel like his gaze was going straight into her eyes?)

Her assumption was proven valid because the next thing he did was run to her. “I need to carry you to the rooftop.”

“What—”

“Come on, Sora! There’s no time!”

His fervent tone startled her to the point that her body voluntarily stood up. She was waiting for Taichi to turn around, but instead of his back, Taichi swooped Sora into his arms before running with all his might. He was so fast that Sora had to circle her hands around his shoulder because she was afraid of falling down, yet the arms that hold her felt so strong. It was as if she was a princess being rescued from the wrath of an evil ogre.

They received a loud cheer every time they passed a crowd on their way, except Sora wasn’t sure if they were cheering for their victory. It didn’t seem like the red on Taichi’s ear was caused by the thrill either.

They crossed the field, stormed through the corridors, and climbed through the stairs. Mimi was waiting on the rooftop along with some committees, and her grin was too mischievous to be missed. The other competitors were only to be seen after Taichi put Sora down, which should mean that they were the first to arrive. Even so, it became her least priority now that she realised all the participants come in pairs of; one of them she recognised as the couple from Yamato’s class.

“Everyone’s here already! Congratulations on finishing the doki-doki scavenger hunt!” Mimi’s voice echoed through the mic. “Now… anyone wants to reveal what was written in your riddle card?”

But she didn’t even give the opportunity for the participants to answer because she then grabbed a card as if she didn’t remember each and every single word on it. Mimi cleared her throat, and her voice was notably loud when she announced the big reveal.

“Go to the rooftop while bridal-carry someone you can really see as your potential bride in the future!”

And all of sudden, Sora could hear her heart beat louder than Mimi’s voice just now—doki, doki, doki, doki.

Taichi squatted down and laughed in defeat despite winning first place. His entire face was now flushed. “I’m so going to kill Mimi after this….”

@digiweek 2022 day 1: beginning tell us about a character (you love)

Lee Jenrya is one of the main characters of Digimon Tamers. He is the third child of four siblings from a Chinese/Japanese family. He met Terriermon while playing the Digimon computer game, saving his future partner from an enemy attack after slashing the Blue Card. Once he got into a serious argument with a neighbour child and accidentally injured the child with his Tai Chi skill, so he then practiced self-restraint—only to realise someday that there were battles he needs to fight.

Jenrya (ジェンリャ) is the Japanese form of his Chinese name, Jianliang (健良). He is also known as Henry Wong (English), 곽소룡 Kwak Soryong (Korean), and رافع Rafi (Arabic).
