"What of the effort What of the trees What of what brings the masses to their knees. I see this mishap, I saw my own fault. To wander or to follow is to choose between the pepper or the salt. He sees his way, She goes as he may, I go astray, Conform to yourself Not to the maelstrom that he or she has to say.”
Silvia Rivera, 1973 http://vimeo.com/45479858
LAQR Rant on Pride and Assimilation "Everything’s gay as in happy at PRIDE. But what’s so wrong with being angry? As in Queer, as in fuck you at the fact that those who aren’t well assimilated, job having, able-bodied, cis white male citizens of the so called U.S. are still greatly oppressed. And are becoming exponentially repressed due to mass complicity and growing state sanctioned violence by way of private prison industries. There is a profound and unbridled anger at the consumerism that lines the pockets of the very people who oppress us. Having excessive amounts of PRIDE might just feed into the culture of narcissism that capitalism has fed to us. These corporate sponsors and the upwardly mobile whom climbed to positions of institutional power either establish our disenfranchisement, are complicit to the oppression that we’ve faced & continue to face, or rationalize their limited understanding of the trans feminist ourstory and revolt those before us were willing to literally resist to push for their existence." http://laqrcollective.tumblr.com/post/87819684280/how-much-is-la-pride-c-o-christopher-street-west

“I think we’re all learning this stuff. Like, even me as a trans person, I didn’t know what cisgender was until a year and a half ago. Even I’m developing this language that very much came out of a white queer and trans* space, and which we’re all adopting that rhetoric coming out of academia mostly. I think we’re all very much in process of learning and I think that most people don’t want to say that - even trans* people don’t want to say that that you know, they don’t know what cisgender is. And a lot of people still use “bio” and “real” for people’s genders. We’re on a journey together to learn this language to speak about this community, which is very varied and diverse.” — Janet Mock on gender and language
STREET TRANSVESTITE ACTION REVOLUTIONARIES: survival, revolt, and queer antagonist struggle Untorelli Press presents a compilation of historical documents, interviews, and critical analyses of STAR, a group of street queens in early 70s New York City who self-organized for survival and revolt. Contained within are pamphlets distributed by STAR, as well as interviews with and speeches by Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson. Additionally, we are excited to include a critical essay by Ehn Nothing on STAR’s legacy, the enemies of queer insurrection, and the war against gender. [For Reading][For Printing]
No State Regulation of Families: I still Think Marriage is the Wrong Goal ”We are being told marriage is the way to solve gay people’s problems with health care access, immigration, child custody, and symbolic equality. It does not solve these problems, and there are real campaigns and struggles that would and could approach these problems for everyone, not just for a privileged few. Let’s take the energy and money being put into gay marriage and put it toward real change: opposing the War on Terror and all forms of endless war; supporting queer prisoners and building a movement to end imprisonment; organizing against police profiling and brutality in our communities; fighting attacks on welfare, public housing and Medicaid; fighting for universal health care that is trans and reproductive healthcare inclusive; fighting to tax wealth not workers; fighting for a world in which no one is illegal.” http://makezine.enoughenough.org/prop8.html
Marriage Will Never Set Us Free "Since the founding of the US, regulating family formation has been key to anti-Black racism and violence. Denying the family ties of slaves was essential to slavery—ensuring that children would be born enslaved and maintaining Black people as property rather than persons. After emancipation, the government scrambled to control Black people, coercing marriage among newly freed Black people and criminalizing them for adultery as one pathway of recapturing them into the convict lease system. After Brown v. Board of Education, which challenged formal, legal segregation, illegitimacy laws became a favored way to exclude Black children from programs and services. The idea that married families and their children are superior was and remains a key tool of anti-Black racism." http://www.organizingupgrade.com/index.php/modules-menu/beyond-capitalism/item/1002-marriage-will-never-set-us-free

Queer Prison Abolition ”Our goal is liberation. We have a radical view of the fight for justice: We are feminist. We are anti-racist. We want queer liberation. And we are against capitalism. Prisons are part of the system that oppresses and divides us. By building a movement and taking action against this system of violence, we will create the world we dream of. We also celebrate the beauty of what exists now: Our love for each other. The strength of our planet. Our incredible resiliency. All of the power we have to continue existing. While dreaming and struggling for a better world, we commit to living in the present.Abolition is our goal, and our strategy for action. Any advocacy, services, organizing, and direct action we take will remove bricks from the system, not put up more walls. We want revolution. And we will work on reforms too, even if they are only small steps at ending the suffering caused by prisons. Our work is based in the experience of people who are or were in prison. We also raise up the voices of formerly incarcerated people as our “free world” members of the Leadership Circle. We know that those most hurt by the violence of the prison industrial complex have the knowledge of how to tear it down.” black and pink : : supporting our LGBTQ family in prison

The Politics of Abandonment: Abandoning Chelsea Manning and Siding with the State and Heteronormativity "Another likely reason why a defense of Manning did not occur was because of her background. Manning didn’t "conform to these upwardly mobile, white, polished, virile male stereotypes" of LGBT people that both of these groups sought to portray. Rather, her "slight frame, lower-class background, questioning of [her] gender identity, inability to hold down a typical job, general dorkiness and dysfunctional family life" created a situation in which she did not fit the image that either GLAAD or HRC wanted to promote.” http://www.hamptoninstitution.org/abandoning-chelsea-manning.html#.U6IG3qgQCRM

Queers Against Cops Respond to Attacks in Occupied Australia "This text has been written as a response to a small, but very vocal minority at the demo who aggressively opposed our messages and our stance towards the police. Some of them harassed, threatened and abused us, telling us to put our banners away, others ordered us to remove the masks a couple of us were wearing, and one man even kicked our banner and attempted to pull it away from us. Unsurprisingly, the only protesters who confronted us were white, middle aged, cis gendered males. Some of them accused us “not really being a part of the gay community”.
Almost every anarchist and anti authoritarian who handed out leaflets, wore mock police uniforms, held our banners and yelled “fuck the police” instead of the official “stop violent police” chant, was either bi, poly, trans, queer or a poc. If the “gay community” is just for police loving, middle class white men then fuck that community.” http://anarchistnews.org/content/queers-against-cops-respond-attacks-0

Toward the Queerest Insurrection "Queer is a territory of tension, defined against the dominant narrative of white-hetero-monogamous-patriarchy, but also by an affinity with all who are marginalized, otherized and oppressed. Queer is the abnormal, the strange, the dangerous. Queer involves our sexuality and gender, but so much more. Queer is the cohesion of everything in conflict with the heterosexual capitalist world. Queer is a total rejection of the regime of the Normal.” http://zinelibrary.info/files/QueerestImposed.pdf\

Born in Flames "Set ten years after the most peaceful revolution in United States history, a revolution in which a socialist government gains power, this films presents a dystopia in which the issues of many progressive groups - minorities, liberals, gay rights organizations, feminists - are ostensibly dealt with by the government, and yet there are still problems with jobs, with gender issues, with governmental preference and violence. In New York City, in this future time, a group of women decide to organize and mobilize, to take the revolution farther than ever imagined in their lifetimes." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgUU41D4T7g

it airs once a week, and so you’ve probably seen the posts. i wish i could say i’m sorry, but i feel ‘sorry’ a lot and guilty and like everything is not good enough and yes i’m aware that talking on a radio isn’t substantive revolutionary change. so if you don’t like it.. you know. unfollow. scroll past it. whatevs.

How Prisons Change the Balance of Power in America http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/10/how-prisons-change-the-balance-of-power-in-america/280341/
“How can one expect the state to solve the problem of violence against women, when it constantly recapitulates its own history of colonialism, racism, and war? How can we ask the state to intervene when, in fact, its armed forces have always practiced sexual and intimate violence against women as a central military tactic of war and domination.”— Angela Davis, ‘The Color of Violence Against Women’
"We’re learning a lot about this thing called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This war time disease. This combat fatigue diagnosis. And we read something worth sharing. Fact, urban youth are twice as likely to get Post Traumatic Stress Disorder than soldiers who are coming home from war. So tell me, what’s the difference between homicide in the streets and bloodshed on the battlefields of Iraq. […] The only difference there is between a soldier with PTSD and one of my students with it is that a soldier gets to leave the battlefield, while my kids go home to it."
Javon Johnson - “cuz he’s black” (NPS 2013)
"LAPD establishing the pretext for LAPD violence. Note how one person in a crosswalk after the light changes, or people standing in the parking lot of a commercial establishment (private property—even if it is open to the public), is enough to justify the “rules”. Not to mention LAPD track record for putting its own provocateurs and agents into a crowd to foment unrest. If one person “breaks” the rules, that’s enough to declare a demonstration unlawful. There’s a word for that: collective punishment. And it’s a violation of the Geneva Convention of Human Rights. NO JUSTICE NO PEACE!— Emma Rosenthal
"Councilman Jumaane Williams has claimed the rebellions were caused by people who did not live in Flatbush, and many reporters and others have followed his lead. By “outsiders,” he also means white people. Everyone knows this is bullshit. Jumaane Williams is implying that the young black militants in Flatbush were either controlled by whites and outsiders, or that they did not care enough about Kimani Gray to fight the police on their own. We know both are lies. Williams’ lie is important for two reasons. First, it proves what role Williams played during the rebellion. He didn’t try to help the rebellion defeat the cops. He tried to defeat and contain the rebellion. He wanted to make sure that whites, Asians, Latinas and Blacks did not fi ght the police together. That might have led to a historic defeat of the NYPD in East Flatbush. It would have proven what we know to be true: when they unite, oppressed people can defeat the police.” The Flatbush Rebellion zine

“…[W]e seek to go as far beyond the myth of the FBI as a crime-fighting agency as is possible, given the information available to us. We posit that Hooverian propaganda [the narrative that the FBI was or is anything but a self-glorified political policing agency] was never so much an overstatement of the Bureau’s gang-busting exploits, or even a pure fabrication, as much as it was a deliberate and sophisticated ruse, a calculated and intentional diversion of public attention away from the FBI’s real purpose from the first day of its existence. Specifically, we argue that the Bureau was founded, maintained and steadily expanded as a mechanism to forestall, curtail and repress the expression of political diversity within the United States. Viewed as an essential component of enforcing the socio-political status quo, the Bureau’s receipt of unwavering governmental support regardless of its “abuses,” even at the moment when it was conclusively demonstrated to have so far exceeded its authority as to have temporarily threatened the stability of the status quo itself, begins to make the most fundamental kind of sense.” — Ward Churchill & Jim Vander Wall | Agents of Repression: The FBI’s Wars Against the Black Panther Party and the American Indian Movement (1988)

Tune in this Sunday to our radio project discussion of food justice, health and the environment. We try to analyze the current focus of movements for change and discuss capitalism’s systemic effect to deprive people of resources.
We also touch on how structures of industry and capital continuously scapegoat and target particularly black and brown communities, while “green” movements tend to avoid discussing the means of PRODUCTION and instead appeal to the CONSUMPTION habits of people ignoring CLASS structures while catering to middle and upper class white “environmental” concerns. Usually at the expense of the land, the indigenous and continued colonization and a created culture of humyn supremacy.
LINK WILL BE POSTED ON OUR SOUNDCLOUD on Sunday along with an info drop on food justice links, videos, songs etc. Please submit any ideas or links or imagery to www.onresistanceradio.tumblr.com/submit.

REBLOGGING for any LA crew- THIS FRIDAY
THIS COME TO THIS MESSAGE ME FOR DEETS/PASSWORD about this :)
discussions about theory or analysis (i think) warrant challenging how that theory is developed and Named and Called Upon to dismiss real time concerns about our interrelationships/ the culture of organizing we protect/profess. if it is used that way. i think it's valuable to discuss political theories and reflections and direct experiences online publicly.
how do we engage in a process of dismantling the 'hegemony' (replicated truths without question -the dominant ingrained inculturated influence) of Theory (TM-Tademarked by the canon aka the institution aka processes of hierarchy and knowledge). Break down intellectualism, remove it's power from the spaces that produce it and market it. Articulate it ourselves?!
we're no zerzan but some of my comrades and i will be radio showing some shit on uprising, political managers and suppression tactics like the gang injunction.. always against all hierarchy and authority.
tomorrow. @8pm. 90.7 or listen live http://www.kpfk.org/listen-live. hopefully it's more accessible and less mental masturbation :P
this radio project has been in and out, and i really don't want to let it fall by the wayside. it's an amazing opportunity to attempt horizontal discussion on the air and just be wholly insubordinate about social expectations of political discussion, what we are willing to say, what is 'appropriate' to say, how we learn to grow with one another through this project. hopefully to begin to disagree and explore conflict on the air, as well. :) more about the project can be found here: http://onresistanceradio.tumblr.com/
