I detest mainstream activism. don't tell me to meet people where they are at, not when liberals are more willing to criminalize you to preserve their false aesthetic.. not when they delete your comments so you can't even initiate a dialogue. authoritarian organizers (and these are not just liberals) will not have the last day. *FTL*FTP*

... about to lose my shit all over the MAM organizers again.

it's actually pretty common for people who are raising concerns to be deemed 'aggressive' to damage their credibility and silence them or delegitimize their concerns to the public. the government uses the same strategy, although it doesn't have to be a strategy activist ego usually does the same trick.

Hear there is an anti-liberal contingent at the MAM march tomorrow in Oakland and i know there will be some anti capitalistas out in LA! solidarity fuck yeah.  now i kinda wish i could go.

Fuck Monsanto, capitalism and state control. We cannot just urge reform, labeling, boycotts etc.. all this will do is create a new market, under capitalism, for those who can afford particularly labeled food. This does not effect the poor and unhoused people who are forced to suffer under the very political food systems of the local market (the US gov. has been guiding the dominant discourse on food since marketing) as opposed to their local garden, or backyard, or food share program. As opposed to autonomy, self organization etc... these actions say they demonstrate the energy of the people but instead of talking to each other, self organizing and building networks to take direct action, they are usually guided by a speaker series, told to join a group, told to vote for policy measures or the local opportunist/leader and because of this, told to keep resigning their power to a political system instead of investing it in building commune(ity). I mean fuck Monsanto, but fuck liberal solutions and mass based consumer driven politics that cause us to water down the issues (or repeat party lines) when we 'show our solidarity'. We must only be showing solidarity because most of us are not invested in the dominant narrative put out by these activist performances, these symbolic announcements to gain popular support easily and deliberately recuperated by the Democratic (or whatever your popular mildly left neoliberal fascist party might presume to be) party. and we tell ourselves that it is enough, that it is something.

Shit is going to pop off (or get worse, or more austere, or maybe we can act now) and community, local or popular assemblies are more valuable than idgaf how many votes you wanna garner for the initiative you got on the ballot by continuing a bureaucratic and disconnected unrepresentative process. participation is how we defeat capitalism. participatory space, participatory self organization. participatory to the degree that there are ten different creative ideas/direct actions going on at the same time at the same action, instead of one program with a well qualified agenda appealing to whateverthefuck power apparatus. we participate in creating in our own lives, fuck their means of production. fuck their means of politics.

hello people

this is sometimes a coping blog

so all day yestahday i've been involved in facebook dialogues/threads and i swurr people are using the socratic method on me or some shit like quizzes, asking me all these questions. i'm gonna pull some, just because wtf

'do you even know what prop c is?'
'do you know the significance of OSLO?"
'Why the focus on attacking organizers and not attacking Monsanto? Do only white middle class people eat?'
'Was solving the issue part of your intention?
'Did you know that there are people right here who are helping organize MAM?'
'Are you proud of the way you handled this and would you do it the same next time?'
'Why force your ideals of the ideal action on to them? WHy not plan the "perfect" action with all their diversity of tactics? Is it because you cannot organize a march/rally with the same number of people the MAM can in LA? Do you have co-opt their non-violent event?''
but this gem is good too:
'That's a great proactive approach. Anyone actually interested in resolving the issue would have gone directly to the organizer, right to the root of the problem. This is the actual radical approach.'

I REALLY GOTTA BE MORE CAREFUL ABOUT THOSE BLOG POSTS YA'LL ;)

Hello! I just wanted to respond to this post as one of the international organizers of the event. Unfortunately this unofficial statement was written & posted by one of our members without a consensus - we have agreed that it was poorly written and didn't get our message across so we will be amending the content on the site today. i.e. we screwed up! We won't be referring to the police at all since it's generally agreed that police protect capital - state - corporate interests. ~ @regulargrrrl

Hello, thanks for responding, reading, listening and considering the implications of the MAM statement. I understand how problematic statements can be because often times they de facto represent the organizing efforts of a broad base of very different people, which is unfair.

I know there is a lot of pressure around organizing global days of action, and i’m sorry if there has been any additional stress. However, i think it’s critical that we are very careful and also critical about any narrative about police collaboration. I’m sure you understand. I understand a desire to demonstrate nonviolently, and to issue statements in an attempt to avoid police escalation, but to do so by fearmongering promotes really dangerous criminalizing possibilities. Some people think that we ‘need to put our differences aside’ but i think we have disagreements and can hear each other as to why. As the resistance grows, this dialogue is important to have without turning toward the safety control narrative of the police state.

I was told that i should have approached the organizers directly about this, but i would like to just publicly state here since this blog is clearly involved, i believe in dialoguing transparently about these very important issues so that many people can draw their own insight instead of hashing this out ‘behind closed doors’. thank you and solidarity.

FYI - the main MAM facebook page has not clarified their statement at all. At least not in a public post to their page. And the original post has got an additional 200 shares since yesterday.

MAM response to your post about police!

[thanks and solidarity to everyone who helped get the word out to challenge the dominant liberal narrative of collaborating with police and the criminalization of militant activists]

just so we're clear about March Against Monsanto

Official MAM statement We would like to remind everyone that MAM does not support violence or aggression towards property or people. Violence will only set us back. Please be clear this movement is non-violent. We want the world to hear us. We must behave like adults not stoop to the level of violence.  Our Marches are family events. We will have children, elderly, and disabled people present. Violence of any kind will not be acceptable.  Please be warned that often times Monsanto themselves will send in their own plants to try and incite or instigate aggression. Do not be fooled. They are trying to destroy our unity.  With that said, Please do not bring violence or abusive comments to our March or to our Event pages. Your comments will be deleted and if it continues you will be banned.  We encourage all organizers of the individual events to share this message.  Please be warned if you are an instigator you will not be tolerated at our march and we our organizers will ask you to stop or leave. If you continue we ourselves will politely and calmly ask a Police officer to remove you.  We encourage all organizers to be open and talk with your local police and make clear to them that these events are family events and we will cooperate and work with them to remove anyone who incites aggression. Please understand, we are not trying to be authoritarian but that we have a responsibility to create a peaceful event for our children, parents, grandparents and all attending.  Remember the world will be watching and we have an example to set. Violence would be seized upon by the media and Monsanto. They would use this as propaganda to discredit the movement and label us as eco-terrorists. This is not a joke we are standing up against one of the most powerful corporations that ever existed.  This is why we reiterate no violence of any kind will be tolerated. We know most of you know this but for the few who did not you do now. For the instigators you are not welcome and we stand firm united in NON-Violence. While we will be speaking up against the politicians and the corporations we will not condone any comments or threats of aggression towards them. We will expose their crimes and demand justice and change of policy. We do not by any means condone any type of vigilantism . Our mission is to raise awareness, expose, and legally stop Monsanto, and their cronies, crimes against humanity. We would like to see GMOs Labeled and/or banned until they can without a doubt be proven safe. So far we have seen the opposite. GMOs are not safe. Monsanto is an unethical unmoral corporation and they have been committing crimes against humanity for decades.  This event is a platform to bring us together in Unity. From here we can work together to create a powerful base of grass roots activism . We encourage all to network together and continue to work towards supporting ballot initiatives that are in place to label GMOs or Ban them, and create initiatives that have not yet been created. Continue working together to expose politicians that serve Monsanto and promote politicians that stand with the people. We encourage all to create mailing lists and or FB groups where you can continue working together after the march and until we have reached our goals. You may want to bring an ipad and have everyone who is interest type in their emails so you have a ready digital email list to bring people together for future efforts. This event has created powerful momentum and its in our best interest to brainstorm Ideas on how we can keep the ball rolling.

This is dangerous!

I will be posting this on other forums to demonstrate how some of the rhetoric here is intensely exclusive to those of us who do not adhere to pacifist principles. Also, if you are going to issue declarations please try to refrain from using ageist language such as "we must behave like adults not stoop to the level of violence" equating self defense or communities that are ridden with violence to childlike behavior or juvenile angst.  An assumption which only enables and justifies the use of state violence against us.

One wonders what you mean by 'bringing violent language' to your event page. Does my questioning or challenging of the 'tactical parameters' you've outlined here amount to 'violent language'? The tactic and language you are using- to appeal to the media and set an 'example' because you are not 'joking' is also very disrespectful of those who employ diverse tactics that are not strictly nonviolent, and are at times, directly more effective. Yet they are targeted, arrested, incarcerated and murdered. I assure you those who do take direct risks, and are then subsequently labeled eco-terrorists, are not joking.

All luck to you people. As long as your goals are within the confines of constructed legality, you will not be effective. You may achieve some awareness, appeal to some false status quo mass, gain some meaningless legislation, but the fundamental problems and systemic subordination will be left unaddressed. In all effect this is a very poorly written statement (clearly you were not being cognizent of more marginalized or less privileged perspectives) that very clearly aligns itself with the dominant police and mainstream narrative. Safety is not an excuse, considering it is the predominant excuse used by the state to ensure control and fascism.

The only reason you feel empowered to say these things about your event is because you have a permit, which gives you control over the space with the backing of the city. Please know that if you engage in this narrative at the expense of people who take more direct action because you disagree with their tactics, you should be aware that you are complicit in police terrorism against militants and you are no better. I will be sure not to be anywhere near your event, so feel free not to fearmonger about people who don't abide to your ideology anymore than you already have. I think you should define what you mean by 'instigate', considering you are threatening people with police violence which will be noted and spread.

So you are aware this part "Please be warned if you are an instigator you will not be tolerated at our march and we our organizers will ask you to stop or leave. If you continue we ourselves will politely and calmly ask a Police officer to remove you. We encourage all organizers to be open and talk with your local police and make clear to them that these events are family events and we will cooperate and work with them to remove anyone who incites aggression." very clearly illustrates that fascism is well on the rise with the mass complicit support of so called social justice advocates. State terrorism will be fought, it is not a matter of IF. it is a matter of WHEN.
